Maybe I have taken too many anthropology classes...

Get this, I know this may be astonishing for you, but not every culture has male/female love as a thing to aspire to...

In fact many people in this world never love their spouse. Their marriages are planned by their families... and they are lucky if they even like each other. There are many cultures where men and women do not spend any time together other than bed time or meal times (sometimes not even meal time). I understand that you are so embroiled in your way that you do not understand through out history that it has been done other ways... with varying degrees of success. In fact, get this, men have had different categories for women, the ones they fuck and the ones that they raise their children with.

I would recommend the Naked Ape... it really would be enlightening to you as to some of the work biological anthropologists have done toward defining our species and how they go about reproducing... It has only been a very short period of time that men and women had the freedoms to pursue the types of pair bonds we wanted to pursue for any reason we wanted to pursue them... It has only been a short time that women had the freedom to make their own money and to take care of themselves. These things have changed what we seek as people..

You were raised with one way of doing things, by your parents, who probably taught you what you should want... whether it was to rebel against the flaws in their relationship or a desire to emulate it, they still taught you about relationships... other people in other parts of the world get a far different lesson than you got, and for them love is not really an option or a choice and not one they would necessarily want to exercise if it was one... because it goes against what they were raised to believe is normal.
