BLoved -> About Collarme's UK/Canada glitch ... (3/2/2010 6:45:01 AM)

For at least the past two years, new profiles where "United Kingdom" is selected as the country are changed so that the country field says "Canada". Meanwhile, new Canadian profiles are changed so that the country field says "United Kingdom".

This can be corrected by editing and updating the profile, but the initial confusion for every new user is a pain.

Consider that there is a London in Ontario, Canada. No way of knowing if a new profile is for London England or London Canada (did the user correct the error or not).

Furthermore, England gets spammed a good deal more than Canada, so Canadians get the bulk of the fake profiles intended for the UK.

So, as this problem is over two years old, I am wondering if Collarme has any plans to correct it.

If I go to the store and buy a Molson, when I drink it, will it become a Guiness?

Getting pain for free and without any kind of emotional involvement, that's a serious bonus.

A little bird tells me you're just complaining because you get off on the inevitable demolishing of your personality that follows every single one of your threads.

You naughty, naughty, naughty boy.

There's a difference between Canada and the UK?  They both have funny people...

What a perfect opportunity for an icebreaker!

Hey, I noticed you marked your profile "London", did you intend to mark it as London, Canada or London, England.  I ask  because Collar Me has a glitch in the location fields and it sometimes puts people in the wrong search area. Whenever I happen upon a profile where I suspect this confusion I email them and let them know about this glitch on Collar Me, especially when their profile is as intriguing as yours. I have very high standards, and you seem so very interesting... my name is Bob, by the way"

Talk about your gaping opening for contact... and you wanted CM to fix it!

Are you trying to find a silver lining to Bob's cloud, Julia? How insultingly positivist of you!

It is the emotional sadist in me... it is my positive way of poking sticks in his eye...

Actually, I am attempting to point out to him that when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change...and from now on I am going to approach Bob with the positive spin on things. Most people that find things to be displeased with in the world are terribly depressed people, been there, and I was not nearly as negative as Bob..

There is always the silver lining... and I mean always...

GreedyTop -> RE: About Collarme's UK/Canada glitch ... (3/2/2010 7:53:29 AM)

such an optimist, you are.

To Bob

I've not noticed this problem, myself.

I guess if the problem does exist the other way to fix it is to swap where you are from to start with.

Not sure about UK profiles getting more spam.

If you know about it ahead of time, that method works.

From time to time I've done a search for those who have recently joined and whose country is listed as the "United Kingdom". I didn't see any spammers amongst those I recognized as Canadian locations.

But the number of fake profiles for London, Manchester and other UK locations is considerable, and daily more are added.
