I believe that your profile picture will be the default picture that appears on the message boards. An avatar must be chosen if you want that to appear.

One possible point of confusion is that some people apparently have what seem to be "custom" avatars and not just the ones that CM makes available for use. I would much prefer a custom avatar myself, but it seems you have to have chosen a custom avatar much earlier on because the feature has been discontinued.

Of course I'd like to see a return of the custom avatar feature, but I guess it's one more thing they'd have to approve before letting it on the site.

Pity.
