I bought a T-shirt last week which has 4 armed native americans standing sternly in pose with the headline HOMELAND SECURITY and the subheading "fighting terrorism since 1492" underneath.

Speaks to me on so many levels.

I personally adored the T-shirts with Bush and Cheny made to look EXACTLY LIKE Beavis and Butthead.

One says: Uhh let's start a war. Yeah Yeah! Fire fire FIRE!!

The other one - which sadly I don't see anywhere said something like: heh heh Your name is bush. and something about cheneys name being Dick. I can't remember it precisely, but it was a RIOT!

Here's the link

I just about died I laughed so hard - saw that a few months oafter the election, not sure why he stopped showing the other one, it was hella funny.

Sinergy, I have often wondered what this land would have been like now, without the arrogant invaders touch. An entire continent protected by a race that did not believe in "owning" land. And more importantly believing they were there to protect what nature had provided.
I was talking to some co-workers about my Indian heritage not long ago, not even really thinking about it. Just commented that due to my American Indian genes that I would be watching for arthritis more closely. One of them burst out, who cares what your ancestors were? We are all Americans and should forget about that stuff. I wonder how many people feel that way? Myself I veiw the world with the philosophy of you are the product of your gene pool and environment, no better or worse than the next guy. But what you make of that mix sets the tone of your life. Well, there's the whole melting pot theory to think about. However, it is good to know of one's ancestors since some ethnic groups are prone to certain diseases. Our newspaper just had a 10 day series on genetic linked diseases. One of the employees of the newspaper has Paget's Disease in his family. Most of the articles were about his search to get someone interested in the disease, do the research to find the genetic marker and then to test his family for that marker. His search was successful and he does not possess the marker.

As for Sinergy's t-shirt, I tend to agree with its sentiment. When South Africa's struggle with the dissolution of Apartheid was all the news, everyone compared it to slavery in the southern United States. I always thought a comparison with the conquering of the "New World" and the resultant herding of its native peoples to unknown lands to be watched by the government was a much better analogy.

Sundew, I am happy that you are proud of your heritage. I mean no disrespect, but I much prefer living in this country the way it is now as opposed to how it was when only "Native Americans" were here. And to equate the people who built this country with terrorists is ignorant in my opinion.
I am of Mexican heritage, but I am happy that here in California this is no longer a part of Mexico. We are much better off because of that.
