MstrPBK -> RE: The BEST reason yet to pass Healthcare Reform (3/9/2010 3:53:14 PM)

I want this health-care reform so that I can be hired by employers because Insurance companies do not recognize preexisting conditions.
And I have 10 disabilities. ...
(an aside) if anyone ought to have medical insurance it is ME. Medical Insurance companies ought ot protect not find excuses for discriminating.

check out Gallup, Rasmussen CNN, Huffington Post and any other poll you can. It's not that the People don't want Healthcare reform, it's that they don't want this particular bill. And to be honest with you I cannot for the life of me understand what that dipshit President of ours is doing trying to cram it down our throats. It absolutely baffles and befuddles me. Not for the reasons you may think. It's political suiicide for his party if he does it with reconcilliation, he has as much said so himself. < losing seats in the fall > The overwhelming majority of Americans want healthcare reform, so why not begin anew and come up with a plan that will satisfy the needs of the people, the desires of the people and both parties. < it's a rhetorical question, it's been asked and answered many times, I know>
Both sides would agree to: eliminating pre exisiting conditions, both sides would favor deregualtion of Insurers. Those two things alone would significantly impact the healthcare mess we have. Why not use those two things, that the politicians agree with, the voters and people agree with as a starting point ? Again, rhetorical. I just don't get it. I do want healthcare reform, most of us do. A year has been wasted on something that is undesirable by the majority of people and Obama seems hellbent to just flip us off and " get er done". I think he somehow believes it will define his presidency. Ohh it certainly will, but not in the way he thinks. He could make this a huge positive, but his ego prevents that. more's the pity... for him.

The reason he wants to go to Costa Rica, is that they are rated higher on health care by the WHO then the USA, sure they are number 36 and we are number 37, but it is a step up and we are higher than Cuba, they are number 39

They still have socialized medicine.

Just watch FOX news, not only do illegals get free health care, but every woman on earth will be forced to have an abortion paid for my the US taxpayers

Not by all the taxpayers - just the republicans. Democrats won't have to pay for any of this. Everything will be free for registered democrats. All republican paychecks will be direct-deposited right into the Obama Socialist Health Care Takeover Program, and their grandmothers will all be unplugged and processed into soylent green as soon as they hit 60.

a lot of the american news, or takes on medicine for all, seems a little insane, your complaining that Illegals get free health care, why not
are you not a compassionate people

lets just assume your just concerned with someone taking advantage of your "in theory" free health care system, any american or any citizen in general can go to any 1st and 2nd world class country, from france, to uk and a hell of alot of other countrys and if you fall ill while working there or on holiday, you will get free medical aid

also illegals in your country are paying tax, and thus are entitled to medical treatment, thou i would like to think it is offered because there human beings

if an illegal buys goods in the usa, then he is indeed paying tax, smokes, booze, fruit, veg, bandaids, meat you name, and if they bought it there paying tax on it

No. We are a people who like to send a few bucks off to the Haitians every time their houses fall down so we can boast about how compassionate we are; but for our own people - no. If other Americans need help, it's because they're lazy and made poor choices. So fuck 'em. Let 'em die.

Because these measures do nothing for the 30 million... and now plus for those with no cobra coverage.

A year has been wasted because the republican party decided "oh fuck no".

Im rather happy that he decided he would rather risk seats in the upcoming elections to get this passed. Am i happy with whats being offered? Nope. No one is. But it is a start. And once it gets started.... take a look at the history of Medicare and SS for the results. No one was exactly pleased with those two in the beginning either. Now, millions rely upon them.

I despise Limbaugh as well, since he is 100% partisan and supported Bush and McAmnesty. But he does have a point on how disastrous this healthcare plan would be. The democrats are just throwing money at the problem, since they continue to block tort reform,...

http://babelishere.webs.com/health.html

Ok, listen.

I've posted numerous sources on here about how little tort reform would have on health care costs.

Depending on the estimate, as little as 1/2 a percent to as much as a whopping 1 1/2 percent.

Yet I keep hearing this nonsense about how limiting medical liability will bring down health care costs.

So, for once, I would just to love to see some proof of this.

I'm sure http://babbleshit.webs.com/health.html  must have some reliable sources somewhere.

I haven't seen them yet.

Another repub/neo con mith.  Doubtful it gets to 1/2 %.  Belongs with Palin's death committee nonsense.

Yea, too bad the democrats couldn't get the majority, so they could actually accomplish something. Oh wait, they had it. Never mind.

OP - Yea and Barbra was going to leave the country when Bush was elected. She's still here.

... want to provide every Illegal Alien in the world who can walk, run or climb a fence over the border with free healthcare. Not only that, anyone who can buy a plane ticket can fly their relatives in, live with their relatives, and we are then responsible for all the preexisting conditions including paying $10,000 for each baby they have.

Ummm... No. For one, all the bills currently debated require legal status to be eligible.

For another, it is a non-issue financially. Think about it: how many illegal immigrants are there? Maybe 10 million, max. But we have close to 100 million uninsured or underinsured Americans.

And finally: anybody who pays taxes should be eligible. Illegal immigrants generally pay MORE income taxes than other Americans do. Their taxes are withheld from each pay check but they usually can't apply for a refund. By some estimates, they contribute about $7 billion per year to Social Security alone - even though most will never be eligible to collect on it.

This is insane. It's pathetic too, since all they would have to do is take out the parts about providing for illegal Aliens and paying for abortions, and it would probably pass.

Paying for abortion has also been removed - although it may be added back again because it is an important issue for many people (as well as necessary. Regardless of your position on abortion, trying to restrict abortion by targeting the poor is despicable and certainly not what Jesus would have done).

No, you are right, tort reform won't make a huge difference but .5 to 1.5 is something and it is something that will shut up the docs and hospitals who whine about it.  As I understand tort reform it would still allow punative damages for criminally negligence as it should.

I keep saying it, but no one wants to do it.  The biggest way to decrease heathcare costs is to be individually responsible for ones own health and not sit around and wait until one has a chronic or acute condition.  How many people absolutely refuse to go to a doctor until they whisked away in an ambulance?  Unfortunately, a lot of people.  Even people who have insurance don't want to do the regular maintenance on their bodies that they would never dream to neglect for their cars.  Wellness costs less than illness.  We want the option to sue if the doctor or hospital is negligent, but we won't even admit to our own negligence.

How many people get their blood work done every year?  It could show a trend toward diabetes that could be controlled by simple lifestyle changes.  I'm just sayin' we wouldn't neglect to get an oil change for the car and we just can't find the time or money to get regular health screenings.

But our current system is broken.  I think we need to explore all options to fix it and so I advocate some kind of tort reform even if it saves just a little.  If I put just 1.5% of my pay in a savings account, at the end of the year I'd have enough for a nice little weekend getaway.  Not a lavish vacation, but something nice.  When we are talking billions,  1.5% savings would also be nice.

I'm happy that Obama has decided to slit the throat of the Democrat Party as well.

May it rest in peace.

Re: the people not wanting "Obamacar".

When you ask if they want the current plan, the numbers aren't in favor of it.  But if you ask them about each item as a standalone, then they are positive.  It's a matter of perception of the bill vs the contents.

kittinSol -> RE: The BEST reason yet to pass Healthcare Reform (3/10/2010 6:58:41 AM)

It's completely true that the Democratic PR machine has made an absolute mess of the message. And since PR is everything... [:(] .

Sanity -> RE: The BEST reason yet to pass Healthcare Reform (3/10/2010 7:19:46 AM)

You're not alone in that way of thinking. Dan Rather, an Obama supporter and a racist (if you can imagine) put it slightly differently. Rather said that, though Obama is articulate, he couldn't sell watermelons if the state police were flagging down motorists for him.

Yeah, I'm a fascist... just like all the Liberals are fascists, who want to defeat Republicans and Conservatives in elections.
