Punch is not 70's at all, well, maybe I am in a time warp. I have been served it at gallery openings and at some tres swank parties in the last couple of years.

I think Punch is a great idea because you can get massive flavor and set the tone for your partay. Make up a name for it!

CRANBERRY PUNCH

1 qt. cranberry juice/can be white cranberry if you want to not have that red color.
1 c. pineapple juice
1 c. orange juice
1/4 c. fresh lemon juice
1/4 c. fresh lime juice
2 qt. ginger ale

Combine all 5 juices in a punch bowl and sweeten to taste. Chill for at least 1 hour. Add ginger ale just before serving. Makes 24 servings.

Add a nice amount of Triple Sec (adds ridiculous amounts of flavor) lots (I did say lots) of vodka and more fresh squeezed limes, lime slices and berries for the alcoholic version. Have the berries on the side and drop a few in to each individual glass, the berries hold together better and it looks great in the glass.

Frozen Ring for punch bowl:
1. First, get you a plastic or metal mould for your ice ring. You can get them at household stores, home parties, and specialty home stores. They are easy to use. Pour your favorite punch, or ginger ale in the mould and sit it flat in the freezer. Freeze over night. It will be frozen solid and ready to use in your punch.
2. Next, if you want to make it even more interesting, pour just ginger ale into the mould and insert pansies or baby roses into the ginger ale before freezing (personally I wouldnt do this, I'd rather go with fruit). This is beautiful floating around in the punch bowl. Makes the punch even more festive and pushes the elegant lever up a notch.
3. Next, to get the ring out of the mould, put 1" hot water in the sink and set the mould in it for a few seconds. Then the punch ring will fall out easily. Have your punch icy cold that you put the ring into, and it will stay cold all evening, or all during the event.

If you are looking for dips..this is a good one too.

Bread Bowl Dip

8 oz. philadelphia cream cheese
1 1/2 c. sour cream
2 c. shredded cheddar cheese
1/3 c. chopped green onions
1 can flakes of ham
1 loaf pumpernickle bread

Put softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded cheese, ham and onions in a deep mixing
bowl, blend until smooth.
Cut a circle in top of bread (set aside) and remove the insides of the bread making a
bowl. (save insides for dipping)
Fill the bowl with the mixture, replace the top and wrap in foil.
Bake for 1 - 1.5 hours at 350 degrees.

Choose a few other crusty breads to add to the pumpernickle, for dipping.

OK, who's going to gather all the recipes from the foodie threads and publish the CM Cookbook?!

Well, that certainly killed the thread!
Onward and sideways!

Creamy Ranch Salsa Dip
1 (8oz) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup chunky salsa
1/3 cup prepared ranch dressing

Blend all ingredients thoroughly, chill for 2-4 hours. Serve with tortilla chips.

Copied over from the family facebook food group. This is the dish everyone demands that my mum make.

Irit’s Special Rice Salad
This dish was inherited from our former neighbours the Winters and adapted by Irit. It has a salad component and a dressing component. A bit like araldite.

Salad:

• 2 cups brown rice
• 2 chopped red peppers
• 1 bunch finely chopped spring onions
• 2 good handfuls of raisins
• Cashew nuts

Sprinkle salt on the nuts and heat in a microwave for 2 minutes at a time until they go brown. Stir in between each session.
Simmer the rice in 4 cups of water until all the water has been absorbed.
Mix the rice with the other ingredients (except the nuts).

Dressing:
Mix in a massive jar:
• Half a jam jar of olive oil
• 125ml soy sauce
• ¼ jam jar balsamic vinegar
• Lump of root ginger, grated
• A few cloves garlic, crushed
Make far too much dressing. It should be moist.
Add dressing a few hours before serving so it can soak in.
Add cashew nuts at the last minute.

She made some for my brother's housewarming, which lead to the development of the best culinary emotional blackmail trick ever. She was trying to work out how much to make, and I kept saying 'your son will think you don't love him if you turn up with that pathetic amount of salad!!!!'....

Fabou Gay Dom developed easiest ever elegante hors d'oeuvre.... translation: Lance made up this recipe one day and it is easy and good:

1 doz. English Muffins
12 oz. canned crab meat (drained) OR frozen imitation (defrosted) OR cooked shrimp OR canned shrimp, you get the idea. LOL!
1 cup mayo OR the like
12 oz. shreaded cheese (usually something white, but seriously, whatever is on sale!)
1 Bunch green onions sliced thin - some of the green for sure
optional: 1/2 small jar of capers, finely minced
optional: 1/2 green or red small bell pepper, finely minced

Split and toast the muffins which can be done on cookie sheet under broiler.

Shread the crab or shrimp. EASY method - combine crab or shrimp with mayo and use hand-held mixer to shread. Stir in other ingredients by hand.

Divide mixture evenly on toasted muffins, spread toward edge - NO mounds, more flat than not.  Put under broiler for 3 minutes MAX - watch 'em carefully - you want brown and bubbly, certainly NOT black. (No broiler? Crank oven up to 500 degrees and get baking sheet close to top burners/coils.)  Your milage/oven WILL vary.

Cool at room temperature for about 4 to 5 minutes.  You want cheese to be firm (not gooey) for next step.  Cut each of the 24 halves into quarters and serve warm or room temperature.  Makes 96 pieces - yes, almost 100!  Lance does this for catering jobs and whenever.... You can certainly halve the recipe, but it's very popular (and kinda tasty for lunch the next day - microwaves well.)

Another meatball option.

Take one bag of premade meat balls, throw in crockpot with two bottles premade alfredo sauce.

Kids?
Mac and cheese with octopus. Clear kool-aid.
Make mac and cheese from box.
Before boiling hot dogs, cut one end to look like legs, they get wrinkly and wiggly when boiled.

WARNING! WARNING!  Stroke request ahead!

So..... did the Fabou, easiest ever, elegante hors d'oeuvre (as developed by Gay Dom) get made?  "Fabou" refers to the hors d'oeuvre and NOT to the Gay Dom who developed them. LOL!
