I can't respond to julia in the original thread due to the mod's intervention in designating that thread "a protected thread" so here's a new thread where hopefully we're free to discuss whatever aggravates us about other's posts, and specifically poster's insults.

Musicmystery began that thread as an attempted insult, then insulted me further in that thread by calling me simplistic, etc, and then got all pissy when I called him on it. juliaoceania took a swipe at me in that same thread then became indignant in a similar manner that Musicmystery did when I responded to her in kind.

So what gives. Are Conservatives and Tea Partiers etc. really expected to take insult after insult here without giving any of it back? Or why do the Libs here get all indignant and whiny when you let them have a mouth full of their very own medicine.

I wouldn't mind doing away with all of the insults entirely, but on a voluntary basis, and thats a part of why I am as insulting here as I am. I am deliberately trying to drive home a point, anyone can do it so just drop it and lets have some sensible discussions.

I appreciate the hands off attitude we've had from the mods lately, a lot - and I really hope they continue that policy. I hope that the interference in MM's "Sanity" thread was a mere aberration because we're all supposed to be adults here and we should each be fully capable of defending ourselves, and I'm pretty sure that given time and enough rope the worst of the insulting behavior will clear itself out of the system for the most part.

You still haven't answered, other than proclaiming conservative is now the middle.

Insults around here are bipartisan.



[Edited to add: the insults on that thread started among mike, pahb, and Real, on a side discussion about government and the King. See the first few pages. Nothing to do with the thread topic itself. The rest of the discussion for a while was quite respectful, even among people who disagreed. We even have liberals, conservatives, and moderates agreeing the left/right paradigm is an unrealistic model.]

I give sanity a head butt and at the same time drive a foot onto Musicmystery's knee...back off be nice!! If Julia piles on I may have to pinch something.

Guys it has been great the last few months with the liberal Mods...hey how do you like that Sanity...lol... But if we don't cool it they will crack down again… There are much more important subjects to use up their patience on.

It doesn't bother me...

I think that the one thing that will knot my panties in a bunch is to bring up my family in a post... like when one user recently attacked me for going on state medical to care for my asthmatic son.. I felt that was below the belt...but waddya expect from the internet?

No, its not bait, its a topic for discussion that I think is long overdue. YOU just don't like to be confronted by reality and so you withdraw whenever you find yourself being confronted by it. And thats not meant as a snark either, thats my honest assessment of your behavior here.

Great, we're alike this way. I don't want a mod intervening on my behalf either, I think its detrimental to the ongoing discussion. I'm a big boy and I can take it. Further, I agree that our families should be left out, anything below the belt should be left out.

And again, I am even against the insults altogether, but I think we should be free to swipe back when swiped at without a moderator in the middle of it all, I think that  creates more problems than it solves. Its a hinderance to effective communication.

This place is beginning to SUCK.

People are not interested in debate- they are interested in being right- and the ego.

As a result of it-  I slowed my posting down- even when I think it would be construct to the OP.  

I get accused daily of being tin foil hats- with many demanding that I "get help" and "take medication".

Many here are not the least bit interested in growing as a person.   Maybe I will switch to video games.   It would be more productive.

The biggest complainers are unable to post their rebuttal and a cohesive and concise manner.  

So-  best they just climb into a TV set and live there.

I don't. Though I can't reasonably expect volunteers to invest hours of their time monitoring this forum, the fact remains that this place has gotten far uglier since the moderation changed to its current policy.

We've already lost at least one quality poster because of this.

As far as I can see, the only good that has come out of this change is that we are now seeing people for what they really are. There are some who I once had a much higher level of respect for than I do today.

But wouldn't you rather know what people really thought...but I agree there are better ways to say things then direct insults.

Thank you PA, that post was the kind of  discussion I had hoped to get started with this thread. I've noticed the unrelenting attacks on you along thoise veins as well, and it seems like one person starts it and others in the same little clique just pile on. Hang in there, maybe we're turning some kind of a corner here.

Have you tried ignoring the trolls you mention? Because thats all they are. I personaly don't have anyone on block, but there are several whose posts I either never read or that I rarely read.

Such jabs are cumulative and wear a person down.  negative energy.   That will produce negative energy.

So- what is the magic number?  What is too far?   How is this different from someone yelling jump - when a guy is on ledge of a tall building?

So make someone mad... does that empower you?   If so- something is wrong with the picture.

So then what is too far?   someone has an extra pastry out of frustration- an extra beer- extra pill-    or whatever the vice.

Then there it the type casting.   So at a certain point- it is no longer fun- but work.  

What is bad is no one bothers to even try lately.

So- ok- ruin someones day.   Ruin the entire boards day.  How does that elevate you?

I'll avoid even mentioning the irony of one of the most abrasive and condescending posters on the site starting yet another thread to whine (once again) about how mean everyone is to him, but this is worth talking about.

PA, I don't think anyone wants to ruin your day. I think most people here really like you a lot.

You're right, though - few people even bother trying to have a worthwhile conversation here anymore. This place jumped the shark a long, long time ago as a serious discussion forum.

The point I think you're missing, though, is that a lot of people think you and a couple of others are largely responsible for that. People are a lot less likely to invest any time or effort into typing out a lucid, well-constructed post if 3 out of every 4 threads - no matter what the original subject - inevitably disintegrate into some crazy babble about the New World Order staging the 9/11 attacks to divert attention from the Rothschild family killing off 90% of the world's population to hide the fact that the US didn't really win the Revolutionary War. The stuff with which you and the other conspiracy disciples constantly flood the forum are exactly what you seem to be talking about - it adds absolutely nothing worthwhile to any discussion, serves only to dumb it down to the stupidest and craziest common denominator, and discourages people from even trying to have a rational, mature discussion.

This is why people complain about your posts - not because they're trying to attack you, but because they think you're ruining the place by turning it into just another internet conspiracy cesspool, of which there are already thousands. I understand it hurts your feelings when people constantly tell you you're nuts and you should get back on your meds, but objectively speaking, what's the problem? You yourself have mentioned your mental illness many times, and you've made no secret of the fact that you're not taking your psychiatric medications as prescribed. And the things you say are completely irrational. So yeah - even though they may be crude and offensive in their choice of language, they're substantively correct. You are mentally ill, you do need to get back on your meds, and the crazy things you post because you lack the ability to distinguish between things that make sense and don't make sense are polluting the forum and making it much more difficult for others to have a rational discussion. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is, and they're right.
