i  think  that our  parents think the same way about our generation as there parents thought about our parents generation .to some extent it maybe due to inviromental changes. add in that children have less supervision less positive choices more negative choices. less positive role modals. you can see it in the change in telavision shows there use to be programs like leave it to beaver then someone desided that tv programs had to get real . i don't know was it ever realy like leave it to beaver . i know that when i was younger there was more importence put on maners and now if your kids are'nt in juvenal hall or pregnet then they think they should consider themselves lucky. there has been alot of changes but weather things where ever as inocent as we remember or if we just chose to remember it that way i don't know

Thanks. Long story there. But thank you for your kindness.

You're welcome. (And long stories don't scare me, at all...)

I love how society is perpetually going to hell, people are stupid, and it is ALWAYS somebody else's fault. Nevermind that the pedstrian has the right of way;

Pedestrians in a crosswalk have the right of way. A pedestrian crossing the street in the middle of a block where there is no crosswalk must yield to oncoming traffic.

Ahhh... a great many people miss that traffic law. They also miss that upside down triangular sign that says YIELD. Merging traffic has the same right to the driving lane as long as there is no oncoming traffic. Too often do you see people force their way into the flow of traffic totally ignoring the fact that there are other cars next to them. Sorry, but you are wrong.

I do not get your accusation. Are you thinking that my mannerisms and my courtesy mirrors those that I have talked about? Tell me, by what basis have you made that judgment? It is funny though that such a broad brush stroke has been used to paint me into part of the problem and not the solution.

I hold the doors open for others when I can. I have helped disabled people get their groceries into their cars. I have gone out of my way to walk an old woman home because she was not very steady on her feet. I follow traffic laws as closely as possible. I yield when I must and I have a great deal more patience with others than most. But I am part of the problem. Interesting.

While your post holds some merit in that perpetuation of curtesy and kindness will help to stem the tide of the decline of manners etc. How is it possible that those that observe this behavior are part of the problem? Have I made some errors before? Have I been in a hurry and committed an offense upon someone else? I am sure I have and I am not sure that anyone can honestly say that they haven't. It is the prevalent attitude that I am addressing not a single individual. Not a single instance where someone has learned that a loved one is in the local emergency room of the hospital and they are panicked and want to get there, it is the general consistency of these issues that I am talking about.

Am I not clear about that?

You are completely, totally, absolutely wrong.  According to the insurance Laws, the merging traffic MUST yield.

I was in an accident like this, as I have mentioned.  The guy tried to force himself into the driving lane when I and a whole line of cars was there.  He was found at fault for improper lane change and I got My car fixed on his dime.

Edit:  Here are the insurance regulations for Ontario, for example:

Please note Section 8
