All of the so-called discount airlines are gone save one, Southwest which had to catch up and play 'follow-the-leader' pricing to compete. Not much of a discount now. Jet Blue, Spirit, Airtran, Midwest Express, USA3000, are just a few discount airlines that come to mind. And Southwest has remained profitable when American, United, and Delta were losing money. Not to mention the fact that Southwest does not use a hub system.
