Actually its still topical because most people dont understand the "reconciliation" process. Dems are voting or deemed voting on passage of the Senate bill., and voting on amendments to the bill. If its passed, the Senate bill becomes law AS IS when Obama signs it. You have a health care reform bill in law. The amendments then have to be voted on in the Senate, and its done under "reconciliation" so that only 51 votes are needed for numbers changes, 60 votes for policy changes. the Democrats who are on the fence are taking it on faith that the amendments they deem critical to their vote will ever get done.
Eg the doctor fix, that will repeal the mandatory 10-20% cuts in Medicare reimbursements that the CBO values at nearly $400 billion and includes in the scoring of the bill, and is critical to states that are already under-served by Medicare docs.
Either projected Medicare costs go up, further exacerbating the problems of that program and screwing those states, or the cost of this bill is actually $400 billion more than the CBO is able to score it at. Either way there is a $400 billion lie being told.
