Having met Aylee and her dogs, I must say in her defense it would most certainly depend on which dog it would be.....

Max was killed by a car over Christmas.  I am saving the other two to butcher for meat should the economy worsen.

I don't know if this would be considered a derailment and if it is, please disregard it.

What IF in pushing the button, someone might or might not die?
Or what if it was a random "bad person"?

I wouldn't push the button for money.

I would put a bullet in someone for certain other reasons though.

Indeed....in fact, while I couldn't take the million if I didn't know them....there are a few people I'd happily push the button for that I DO know...and I wouldn't even require cash for it :)

You all kill people you haven't met. You don't have to be a spy to know that!

Your gas money kills people … it probably funded the 911 attack in which I did personally know people who died. You drive a car. Every time you step on the gas, you pollute and kill someone in our future while the gas profits probably support some religious fanatics that kill in the name of their God.

Your grocery money kills people you don't personally know. You eat commercially produced food. Every time you shop at the grocery store you support a system that pays to prevent excess to preserve market value. Instead of taking all that excess and feeding people that are starving and dying, we let them starve so food prices and profits remain stable.

Your tax dollars kill people you don't personally know. You work and pay taxes... that supports the biggest military regime on the planet. We will come to your country and kill you if you interfere with either of the two systems mentioned above.

I don't grow my own food. I don't ride a horse. I pay my taxes sometimes. I help kill people everyday. Hell, between the gas I burned on the way to grocery store to spend my paycheck, I probably killed three people.

For a million dollars... I would push the button over and over and over again.

Naughty, naughty derailer....

Hmm. No to your first scenario... just like I wouldn't point a gun at someone, not knowing if a bullet was in it.

Probably no to your second one, unless I KNEW who and what they were. Hitler? Yes. Pol Pot? Sure.

Barelyangel, that's the 'good German' defense. It doesn't work. If you knowingly start the chain of events which ends in the person's death you are guilty.

But what if the person that would die would have all their organs going to people on transplant lists so that you saved the lives of 6 people and 1 persons eyesight?  Then would you push the button?

Nope!

So you would let 6 people die to save the life of one?

You are so un-Spock-like.
