ORIGINAL: Fitznicely Agree wholeheartedly with Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Father Goose (god, it's been years since I watched that) and the slapstick silents. Classics, all... Hollywood has forgotten how to tell a story. I hate that spectacle and CGI has replaced character and plot. Recent films I'd recommend as harking back to the good old days - Antichrist, Hard Candy, Blair Witch Project, Scenes of a Sexual Nature, Exotica, Pulp Fiction. I'm sure there's more, but those are the ones which struck me as concentrating more on story and character than big explosions and gore porn. I'm not sure I agree with your classification of Blair Witch Project as a conversation driven film but the rest, I tend to feel are to a large degree. If you liked Pulp Fiction, you'd love Inglorious Basterds I think... I also disagree that Hollywood has forgotten how to tell a story. I do however think that a lot of garbage has been produced. That said, here are a few more modern ones to add to the list are: - Lost in Translation - Being John Malkovich - Adaptation - Punch-drunk Love - Full Frontal - Magnolia - Vicky Christina Barcelona - The Men Who Stare At Goats I would add that what distinguishes a Tarantino or a Ritchie film from other action slashers is the quality of the dialogue. Ritchie's Snatch has so many yummy bit of dialogue. "In the words of the quiet Virgin Mary, come again?" Priceless - LA
