I rarely drink at all anymore...due to economics more than anything, but yes I do like my beer....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm beer, beer, beer, wonderful beer[:)]
I have gotten very drunk many times, but then again I have always enjoyed skating on the edge of disaster.

And I have zero tolerance for people who drink to get drunk and who can't control their drinking. Alcoholism runs throughout my family tree. We watch out for it in ourselves and the younger generation has been educated about it because of the danger it poses to us.

What danger are you referring to?

If someone is violent and abusive then alcohol may make it worse but the person is still violent and abusive when sober.

Because some have a genetic predisposition to alcohalism.

I drink daily. Either a glass of wine or a beer. Occasionally a Jack.
I rarely get drunk anymore. I'm much better with a controlled buzz on occasion.
I must stay away from martinis. They are bad. Very bad.
The world gets tilted and everything falls over (me) when martinis are gulped.

MichiganHeadmast -> RE: Drinking to excess (3/21/2010 7:43:42 AM)

Occasional only, and limit one. Never drink when driving or tying someone up (or both).

As Dean Martin (or maybe Dick Martin) once said, "But I've only had tee martoonis!"

AND I live in a state which properly recognizes the importance of medical marijuana!

C'mon folks!  Answer the stupid questionn!  Is it a bad thing to just decide to get completely fucked up once in while?

I hate drunks. Don't want a drunk anywhere near me. I have no respect for people that drink to get drunk, none.

I have a glass or two of wine on a regular basis. Had a couple glasses Thursday or Friday night. Beginning of warm weather I get an itch to have a good gin and tonic with a hunk of lime.

I am a lightweight, depending on food intake, my limit is one or two alcoholic beveri. I am watchful, staying aware of how I feel, quick to switch to only water. If I have more alcohol than I should, I will get spewy long before I get drunk.

I dont drink anymore. Im a recovering alcaholic (even though I do slip off the wagon once in awhile and feel like shit the next day for it). I literally used to be able to put away an entire pitcher of beer in an hour, hour and a half, and still be sober enough to drive. I was always looking for a reason to drink.

ETA: I've found a new addiction though: Im back to working out on an almost daily basis and so far have dropped about 30 lbs in the last 3 months.

Domin8tingUrDrmz -> RE: Drinking to excess (3/21/2010 8:25:20 AM)

When I was a teenager, I drank to get drunk. I never much cared for the taste of most alcohol, so the only reason I saw fit to drink the stuff was to get drunk.

Now, well, I make my own craft brews, which I enjoy doing, but I rarely drink any of the stuff. I'm still a sucker for a good Eiswein, but, good Eiswein doesn't come cheap...so it is a rare treat. On occasion, I will still get a good buzz going with alcohol, but it isn't often, and never to the point where I don't know what is going on. I don't like the possibility of losing control of my emotions or actions, I discoverd that excessive drinking does that to me back when I was a youngin'.

Is it bad? Well, if you are doing it to the point where you risk losing your job, risk losing control of yourself, risk injury to others or yourself, or risk neglecting those who depend on you...then yes, it's bad. If you do it too often, it could pose health risks also, so, again, bad. If you do it infrequently, are safe and sound at home, have no one relying on you to feed them or care for them in other ways, then no, I don't think it is bad.

Alcoholism destroys the liver and brain cells. My father has alcohol induced dementia. A once vibrant and powerful man no longer knows which direction in his own apartment to go to get to the kitchen. And that is a danger.

Phoenixpower -> RE: Drinking to excess (3/21/2010 10:34:51 AM)

Last time I got drunk I was 15....so 17 years ago...since then I prefer to stay away from alcohol as I think it is stupid and unneccessary...I have many years where I don't drink a drop of alcohol as it doesn't really taste great to me...

so therefore i discovered for me during my experimental age in that respect that I don't need that stuff...

I don't mind to have a drink once in a while when I go out, but even then it often is not alcohol either...

another reason which might have put me off it was the fact that my grandpa died on alcoholism...which I considered a huge waste of his life as apart from that habbit he was a healthy person...so I prefer to treat my liver well [:)]
