I wouldn't say it represents all people at all.

Most of the people I know, are much MUCH more laid back about all of this. Most of us (myself and those I know...) realize that even the greatest presidents had drama and detractors during their presidency. We realize that people thought the world was going to come to an end over the decisions made. We realize that people were just as passionate about their opinions, just as fearful as some are now, and that we as a country, survived just fine.

We also realize that it takes time to accomplish good things. That the mess created of our country and economy is not something that can be 'fixed' in a few months, or perhaps even a few years. We believe in our country and ability to survive difficult times.

From what I have seen, the people that are as wigged out upset as is represented in some of the threads here, are either a bit 'off' or uneducated about all of the facts.

Yes, I know I am....

You, on the other hand are just somewhere in the middle right center... nothing special about you unfortunately...

Well, at least that is what you want, to be one of the masses, but in fact you are far more radical than you will even believe yourself to be. You really think that you are "mainstream". I suppose that is what living in an echo chamber will do to you...

On the other hand, I have no illusions that I "mainstream".... Nor would I want to be judging by what I see going on in this country. Being "mainstream" means buying into an entire system of bullshit which I just can't do.

If people want to cast themselves as centralist then perhaps they should focus on what both sides are or are not offering rather than overtly attacking the leaders of one side. As a centralist you always have to ask yourselves 'yeah I don't agree with the government but what alternatives are the other side offering?'

In answer to the op it's easy to establish if this forum represents the opinions of your wider nation by comparing the personalities and things said here to the polls. Asking people here is just as useful as asking yourself, everyone is in their own little bubble.

Is this forum (at least somewhat) an accurate representation of America's political mindset right now?

If so, it seems pretty clear that both Team Elephant and Team Donkey have totally gone off the deep end.

Yeah. that's why I'm a member of Team Guinea Pig.

That little bit of reasonableness escapes Sanity. I have friends that are "centrists", and what I have always taken that to mean is they are willing to look for solutions anywhere they may exist. My hard right Glenn Beck listening fundamentalist brother is more centrist than Sanity, for crying out loud. He was working at the Olympics in Vancouver over the winter, and he asked Canadians what they thought of their healthcare, rather than assuming what he heard on Fox was correct. He was shocked that they had lied to him, but he wanted to hear what the Canadian people thought of their system, they like it.

That to me is a centrist position, willing to listen to the other side of a question and change one's mind if one comes across a solution that would make sense, instead of adopting the position that the other side is always wrong...

One of the things I have observed on this particular forum is the radical conservative shrillness of some (not all, please don't freak out) very submissive men. I am not sure if there is any correlation.

There are many liberal submissive men that post here. I have noticed dominant conservative men... shrugs

You think that anyone who hasn't fallen over the left cliff with you has to be on the far right..

Funny stuff.

Your only problem with Obama is you don't think he's as far to the extreme left as you are.

how sad is this? Julia, and Sanity, you both have lots of wonderful contributions to threads, but you ruin it when you spiral down to this kind of behavior.
Sheesh!
Mom.

When I sign on to the forums I usually go first to P&R, then to off-topic, before I venture into any other topics.  Here in P&R it appears people have gone off the deep end.  But the practical side of me wants to say they are just speaking passionately about their beliefs.  Kinda like the way some debates on Meet the Press (on TV) get heated when you have both political parties on expressing their views.  Its probably why my mother used to say never talk about politics or religion.  They're just emotionally charged topics and once you've picked a side, depending on your nature....yeah, it may seem like you, we, everyone has gone off the deep end.  And too, there are certain characteristics of certain people that make me try to avoid them at all costs, if I can.

When I'm not on CM, or off the computer, I am not talking politics, giving my point of view on situations, or defending/explaining my stance on things.  Just like there are probably lots of people on CM who have no interest in coming into P&R to join in the 'fun & games'.

I guess its a matter of different strokes for different folks.  But if you're strokin' in P&R, you can often be prepared for a wild ride or at the very least an under your breath OMG.  But Kitty, as you pointed out yourself, it really doesn't matter if its left or right, democrat or republican.  The arguments are eerily the same no matter what party is in charge and what party is saying what....or what year it is!

Aw, I'm just having some fun Mom, poking julia's belief that she's nonpartisan with a stick... what can it possibly hurt. She keeps picking at it anyway...

to answer your post  OP,

1. people are VERY upset over being forced to buy something or face fines or jail.
2. up to 38 states are going to sue.
3.  people I know outside of here are upset- those in the US.  (however one in Ireland says we will wonder what the hype was all about later and one in Canada is perplexed that we do not pass this.)

4.  I take issue with forced vaccinations and the RFID of medical records and anything too controlled.
5.  medicare will lose a few hundred million $.

We have not seen this much anger since TARP.

Last time I checked, Al Gore was solidly Democratic.
