I was wondering.

Do you think its harder for a Dom or a Slave to hold a normal job.

As for myself I hate doing what other people tell me to do, and thats why I cant hold a normal job long.

I long to open another buisness for myself.....

So, all of you subs/slaves out there. Are you happy with your day job? Is your Dom with theirs?

What are your feelings?

We are both happy with our day jobs. We both have a lot of autonomy in our jobs and are both very well-regarded by our colleagues and supervisors.

I am not at all submissive at work. I am a professor and direct a program on my campus. I supervise a staff, teach classes, make high-level decisions, manage budgets, and conduct research. It's very rare that someone tells me what to do, and although I love when my Owner tells me what to do, I wouldn't respond well to that at work. I'm damn good at what I do and don't need supervision. I absolutely love my job and would be miserable without it.

I don't have any problems keeping a job - and like lucylucy, I'm usually the one in charge. Even if I hated the job, I would be proactive enough to find something more suitable, and professional enough to fulfill my obligations to the best of my ability for my current employer while I was searching.

Being unable to hold a job long has nothing to do with being dominant (or an s-type) it just means you are really shit at choosing your profession or you are a bad employee.  It just shows you an unreliable person.

We LOVE our jobs. That's why we do them. Life is too short not to have a career that you love.

Being able to hold down a job or not being able to hold down a job has nothing to do with being a bad employee or good employee. In the current climate it has everything to do with luck and yes good performance on the job. But there are many good employees who have been laid off.  Are they bad employees? I dont think so

Ah but the OP was specific.
He doesn't like to be told what to do so he cannot keep a job.  That has nothing to do with work climate.
That doesn't have anything to do with being dominant either.

I was a good employee that got laid off a few years ago. Because I was a good employee I got a fantastic reference. That, and my determination not to be unemployed for a second longer than I needed to be, meant I got a new job relatively quickly. I had to do some retraining, partly at my own expense, but I put in the time and the effort and turned my luck around.

The point is, shit happens to everybody. It's how you deal with that shit that is an indication of your character.

But if you're in a job you can't handle because you don't like being told what to do, then your options are to either grow a pair and get on with the job while looking for something more suitable, or give up and and run away. Again, another indication of character.

In general I don't have a problem keeping a job and actually enjoy working.
The only reason I never kept a job for long in the past is because I was married to a military man and we moved often. I now hold a job that I absolutely hate but not because of me being a slave to my Owner or because I'm submissive but because my boss is an ass.

I don't think being a dom/me or sub/slave has anything to do with being able to hold a job or not.

Paying my mortgage, car payment, and all the other bills way trumps any "orientations" I might have.  It's called being an adult.

I was wondering.

Wondering is good.  Personally, I like to ponder.

Do you think its harder for a Dom or a Slave to hold a normal job.

What does identifying as a dominant or submissive have to do with holding a job?

As for myself I hate doing what other people tell me to do, and thats why I cant hold a normal job long.

Sounds like a personality issue you might want to work on.  I don't think saying "Look, I'm a dom" is going to cut it when the boss tells you to do something.

I long to open another buisness for myself.....

So, all of you subs/slaves out there. Are you happy with your day job? Is your Dom with theirs?

Well, I'm a switch so if you want to bring all the dominant/submissive stuff into it, maybe I'm happy with my job (for the most part) because I have a nice balance/give and take/switchy thing going on.

Or maybe I just like what I do.

What are your feelings?

Work sucks. I really would be happier as a novelist. In reference to your question, though, I DO think that my submissive tendencies help somewhat in my job as a nurse. I must serve patients, their families, doctors and my fellow employees. If I were more dominant, I might not be able to fight the urge to tell them all to FUCK OFFFFF!!! oh wait, I think I just lost control.

I'm a Domme and I have a stellar career as do many other dominants that I know (not to mention subs, switches, vanillas and others) .

When I started off at the bottom of the ladder, yeah, I had to take some flack from the higher ups at times. But I also had a goal as well as the necessary strength in my character and determination to get me there. And that strength and determination can be found on either side of the kneel.

Today, I'm an executive so I don't answer to a lot of people, just the president, and he hired me because I've got ideas, opinions and I'm not a yes person. That said, he's the captain steering the ship so he decides in which direction we go. Following his orders at work does not make me un-dominant, it makes me smart because I recognise his ability to be one hell of a captain. And I learn so much from him.

Now you say you want to go in business for yourself, and if that is your goal, I wish it for you. I was a consultant and worked for myself for 5 years before I accepted the position I'm in now, and it was actually great. A lot of work, but great.

However. And this is a BIG HOWEVER, if you think that having to answer to one boss is demanding, prepare yourself for what it's like to answer to set of CLIENTS.

You don't know what kissing ass is all about until you have your very own clients ;-)

I love my job, and yes, the person I report to is somewhat demanding. But not nearly as demanding as what I expect of myself. I don't hold to the "do the least amount of work to keep my job" mentality.

No relationship. As for your poor impulse control, I would suggest you be evaluated for ADHD and if so diagnosed, take the medication.

the road to being a nurse was very hard and slow for me. Master allows me to continue working because He knows being a nurse is integral to my happiness .

I have no problem working for another... so long as I know what is expected, I've agreed to take up that responsibility and they fuck off and leave Me to do it in the knowledge that it will be done, on time and well.

As for submissive personality's, they make excellent employees... yes even in roles you would expect to be quite Dominant in nature. Submissive certainly doesn't mean weak

I think it might be harder for some than others, but I don't think it has anything to do with being a sub or a dom.

As to not being able to hold down a normal job. I would say it is time to grow up and be a man, unless you plan on finding someone to support your ass. Yes it sucks to take orders from other people, but unless you own your own business, you better get used to it.
