So do I, and no man is going to talk using third person speech while talking to a girl.

Some men have girls use it. Some find it irritating.

But it's certainly not a way a Gorean would approach a girl.

Speak like Yoda instead, one should.

Actually, Goreans do not do this as a practice.

This is how misconceptions occur - the "I know they do this in Gor comments -- actually in this situation no, they don't, not as a common or even recognized practice.

Ok, so I get this message from this guy on here and he's referring to me in 3rd person. For example, "I hope girl is pleased that I deigned to send her an email." It makes me laugh. So, I'm looking at this note, and I'm thinking, "I'm never going to be able to take this person seriously."

I realize that they do this in Gor, but I'm not into the Gor thing. I guess I'm just wondering how anyone else feels about being addressed like this by a total stranger. I'm not offended by it, I do get a good laugh out of it, but at the same time, I feel kind of condescended to. I must not be a twue sub.

Edited because Tim and angel both answered...

but this point is still verrrrrrrrrrrrrry important:

3. Do you have pictures of you sans panties and bra? I am happy to ascertain if you are in fact suitable material for all the ummm "masterly" types. I have this checklist here. yeah... that's it. I gotta see if you would look good enough in the red silks and such.

Well, people I've spoken with who said they were into Gor had a habit of doing this thing.

Gor speak????

I thought it was supposed to be Gore speak!!

No wonder I never got anyone with: "It ought to be possible to establish a coordinated global program to accomplish the strategic goal of completely eliminating the internal combution engine over, say, a twenty-five year period."

Damn!

thornhappy -> RE: What's up with that? (3/25/2010 6:54:51 PM)

No no no.  It's W. L. Gore.  The folks who make Gore-tex material and fantastic, metrology-grade microwave cables.

Be careful thorny... you'll find yourself embroiled in the whole "is it possible for a slave to be Gorean" discussion.

loverly -> RE: What's up with that? (3/26/2010 3:09:03 AM)

When a "Master"writes and speaks about himself in 3rd person, at first i am always confused about WHO he is talking about! Like he is writting to me for someone else....and then it cracks me up! Personally? i could never do the 3rd person thing if i were ever asked to....lol

sunshinemiss -> RE: What's up with that? (3/26/2010 3:24:23 AM)

Sometimes I write them back with this little love note:

oooo what did you do that upset your dom and now you are now being punished and have to talk in third person? ooooo...

DarlingSavage -> RE: What's up with that? (3/26/2010 3:40:52 AM)

Very amusing answers! LOL

barelynangel -> RE: What's up with that? (3/26/2010 4:39:46 AM)

Men will addres slaves as girl - as in --- how are you today, girl. They don't make a practice nor is it common for Gorean Men to speak as the OPs example -- as in third person to slaves. Some slaves speak in third person but again that is not a common practice.

Funny, BDSMers would have a fit if someone generalized like this about BDSM because a few of them do or a few trying to appear same do. For an easy example, you have thread after thread of people saying how Doms are assholes because they cheat or lie -- so non-BDSM people should just follow the misconception that these DOMS are pictures of what DOMS do as a practice or is a common concept? Somehow i think most of you would say no way, that's not being a Dom.

But i guess its easier to keep the misconception because well hell its Gorean not BDSM.

Angel,
Obviously it is not common in the circle YOU hang out in, but at least one person has said that it is a characteristic of the Goreans she knows. And there has been no misconception, just different circles of people. I too have been around Goreans who do this. Different strokes and all that.

Interestingly Steel, the linguistics are so simple, it's embarassing. Change the noun to "girl" or change the structural Direct Object to the Subject, add a to be and a past participle, and voile! Third Person speak. Rather boringly easy and an actual verb tense.
