Brain -> Tea Party Backers Who Scorn Socialism Want Government Jobs Push (3/26/2010 10:46:33 AM)

These teabaggers can't see the contradiction. They don't want government to help others but they want government to help them.

Tea Party Backers Who Scorn Socialism Want Government Jobs Push

Tea Party activists, who are becoming a force in U.S. politics, want the federal government out of their lives except when it comes to creating jobs.

More than 90 percent of Tea Party backers interviewed in a new Bloomberg National Poll say the U.S. is verging more toward socialism than capitalism, the federal government is trying to control too many aspects of private life and more decisions should be made at the state level.

At the same time, 70 percent of those who sympathize with the Tea Party, which organized protests this week against President Barack Obama’s health-care overhaul, want a federal government that fosters job creation.

They also look to the government to rein in Wall Street, with almost half saying the government should do something about executive bonuses. Supporters are also conflicted over whether private-enterprise elements should be introduced into government programs like Social Security and Medicare.

Do as I say, not as I do.

I want my Social Security and Medicare, but the rest of you are just trying to rob me with your socialist health care.

There is a distinct difference between "government jobs" and the government fostering jobs.

I'd also question the group identification between "Tea Party backers" and those who sympathize with the Tea Party, but I'm just suspicious that way.

"Please" is such a nice word.  It helps to differentiate between a demand and a request.  [;)]

Big surprise that a liberal reporter for a liberal news service doesn't see the difference between "fostering job growth" (i.e., making it attractive for businesses to expand) and a "government job".

As for Medicare, premiums are paid and deductibles apply.  As for Social Security, set up by government fiat to enable the government to take more money from people via taxes so that everyone would be cared for in their "golden years".  Problem is that not enough people worked and paid into the system and the government used Social Security for years as their "fall-back" cash cow for other programs.

Well, when I clicked the title was "Tea Party Advocates Who Scorn Socialism Want a Government Job"

It may say they want the government to promote real jobs, in the article, but the Title is a lie.

I need to make a website that tracks these bad journalists. As I'd filter anything this Heidi lady writes to the trash can, as her choice of including a lie in the title speaks volumes.

That's the problem with AP links.  They update them often.  That was not the original title.

Refer back to the original post.

A government jobs push in the context of the article means creating jobs in general, not just government jobs.

I don't know Brain, is there really a conflict there?
I would think that "everyone" would want the govt to support job creation wouldn't they?

I thought it was worded pretty politely as is, unless you need a distraction because you don't have an answer.

Very true, Tazzy.  But I'm a firm believer in that we teach people how to treat us.  If we accept rude behavior, then we deserve rude behavior.  [;)]

So you would feel better if he came back and said... please?

I find that... hmmm... dont know what to say... other than good luck.

dropsinmoonlight -> RE: Tea Party Backers Who Scorn Socialism Want Government Jobs Push (3/26/2010 1:04:06 PM)

dear creativedominant

actually social security does and did work. It has drastically reduced the number of elderly who live in poverty.... it's goal. The problem with the system was/is/will be, when created, the current generation of workers took care of the elderly with their social security taxes. The system worked well enough, that the extra money was shifted into other uses. The problem comes in the near future when the baby boomers go into retirement (which is a large percentage of the population and is living longer then previous generations) the current working pool who pays for social security will be relatively smaller, thus making paying for the system difficult to impossible. Thus "We the people" (in the form of our elected officials as well as us as individuals working together), are going to have to find a solution, so we don't return to the old days where our elderly lived in desperate poverty. I think we have forgotten what life was like for the average person pre-New Deal & Unions (like 8 hour work days, 5 day work weeks, etc.). If you need a reminder of that life, watch or read some Charles Dicken's works.

Hope this finds you well.

lol... I honestly don't expect him to.  But if he'd like to have a discussion about the difference between "government jobs" and the government fostering jobs with me... well, it would be a good place to start.  [;)]

Interesting. I thought I have been pretty polite to most folks around here. How many lifetimes does that account for?

Why? Are you unclear about the difference between the two terms?
