eyesopened -> Which America? (3/30/2010 5:34:43 AM)

I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.  As such, I have not always put money or personal finances as the most important aspect of my life.  As I grow older I'm finding that I need things or will need things like Social Security, Medicare, or at very least affordable health insurance.  I've recently been diagnosed with a condition that might cause me to stop working and to stop working before I can collect my tiny pension and any SS that might be available to me.  I have reason now to wonder what would happen to me.

But the Tea Party and Republicans keep talking about taking back America, and "the America I knew" and other buzz-words and talking-points that I simply do not understand.

Which America are we to take back?  What America did Glenn Beck once have that he doesn't have now?

What do they want?  Really.  What do they want?  What will get them to shut up and be happy?

I get the impression that they want anyone who is not really clever, really intelligent, really wall-street savy to perhaps just mow lawns until they are wall-street savy?  I am serious now.  What do they want?  What is the great vision of the future they have?  What will that future look like?  How will it work? Is there any place for a person like me in that vision of the future?   If you can't tell me, at least direct me to someplace where I can see this vision for myself.

Anyone?

Dare I say it, before PA does ?

NWO

But, I have considered this too as far as my future is conerned in my country, for I have failed to think about my future, due to cost of living and past below average wage, I think I will just manage the best I can, for better or worse due to my belief no one knows what the future holds. Insurance schemes I distrust after the Equitable life disaster, my family lost lots in that. The way I and a few of my pals are thinking, I am going to be a militant OAP, never mind grow old enough to be a pain in the ass to the kids, grow old enough to be a thorn in the side of government, for there will be a lot of us, a massive voting body.

The appeal to some mythical "golden age" of the past - when the government didn't involve itself in anything, everybody followed "family values", and and there weren't any immigrants - is pretty common rhetoric among certain folks. However, it's also a bunch of BS.

housesub4you -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 7:13:14 AM)

The thing I find absurd about their whole "take America back and no government in my insurance and smaller government" talking point is very simple

If they truly do not want the government in their health care, then they should ask their employer (if that is where they get their health insurance) to stop accepting any government tax breaks or subsidies to cover any cost for said insurance and cover the full cost of their health plan themselves

If fact they should stop eating any food grown on a farm which receives federal money, or eating any food which has been inspected by our socialist government.  Stop using National Parks created by our socialist government, stop using roads built with money from our so called socialist government.....etc etc etc.....

But NO, they only make that argument about a socialist government when it suits their needs or talking points.  They have nothing really to stand on, except bitch about things they know not to be true

Aneirin -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 7:26:33 AM)

What, the regulation and eugenic programmes which affected the lives of racial groups, sexualities and religions, I don't think so, they were the accepted thought in the past, we do not need to revisit those times again, for they were bad, quite literally, the bad old days for many.

But by saying many, that does not necessarily mean the majority, I think questions need to be asked of those who are pushing movements to return to ye goode 'ol days, just what exactly do they mean by that, could it be they in fact wish to see a return to the racist, homophobic, see a commie everywhere days where alternative expression was seen as threat to the status quo of the Good 'ole US of A.

Noooo,  progress implies moving forward, the past does not need to be revisted, but the past exists to serve  as a teacher, a teacher to inform, but not control.

rulemylife -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 7:29:02 AM)

They have no clue what they want except to bitch and moan.

I was watching the coverage of the latest teabagger event on Fox last night and everyone they interviewed just kept repeating those same buzz words you mentioned.

LaTigresse -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 7:51:56 AM)

It's all Palin's fault.[:D]

I am trusting that the stupidity that is today's far right, will stupid itself right back into oblivion. I mean, they are entertaining and all, in very small doses, but to give them any credit for workable ideas beyond how to make a mason jar of decent tasting, sun tea.

slvemike4u -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 7:56:06 AM)

The America they want back no longer exists...and as such will not be returning.This is sure to have some posters up in arms but all of what you are referring to Eyes,sounds like code words for racism to me....I hear that shit and all I see are a people who beleive they are losing their grip and their primacy and can't bear the sight of it.
This year,for the first time in our history, there will be more minority than white babies born in this country .
A black man is President....Woman hold key positions in congress ,as do gay men.
None of that will be rolled back...and that is fearful to those who look at their father's America and see nothing but the rosy hue of white supremacy.

LaTigresse -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 8:04:44 AM)

Yes indeed.......like that article I linked to yesterday. It's gone and they are freaking.

pahunkboy -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 8:05:54 AM)

slvemike4u -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 8:08:31 AM)

And it ain't coming back....which in one light is scary,if someone as slow as me can see that...it has occurred to others too,desperate people are prone to do desperate things....What we are watching,is it possibly just a harbinger of the desperation to come?

LaTigresse -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 8:09:06 AM)

Sorry PA, but you are living in a dream world.

you could call it 2 items

1- end the federal reserve
2. end the wars.

tho ending corporate personhood rights is important too.

Simply my opinion...but I actually think they call those nighmares....dreams are usually benign and one wakes up from them...pa seems to be in a nightmare,that is on a freakin loop.
Over and over it plays...again and again...bankers,war and the NWO.

LaTigresse -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 8:21:13 AM)

I'd call it an LSD type hallucination myself.....the avatar is quite fitting.

This, and the fact that the rhetoric of fear is one of the far right's preferred technique of persuasion of the ignorant and retarded segment of the electorate.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 8:33:20 AM)

One where the first resort people look to solve their personal issues isn't the government.
One where the government doesn't employ and have union contracts 30% of the workforce
One where personal accountability and consequences for decisions reside with the individual.
One where failure is allowed to happen and isn't funded with the efforts and product of the successful.
One where where charity is not a government function.
One where personal choice isn't a one issue slogan.
One where contracts replace laws prohibiting, or allowing individuals to live, love, and partner with whomever and as many they choose.
One where the religion industry is taxed like any other industry.
One where taxes are based on what you spend and not what you earn.
One where equality isn't attempted by implementing laws which, by definition, make some people 'more equal' than others.

Many people see 'America' fading because they see their ability to make personal decisions fading, replaced by government dictates. They want government off their backs, but at the same time they have become comfortable with their personal entitlements and have great difficulty combining those two concepts. Too much indoctrination and political correctness in the last two generations of students may have eliminated fundamental personal accountability from the thought process from many 'Americans'; but that's my opinion only.

No - my 'America' doesn't exist and maybe never has - but that's the place I seek to live, and will stipulate to never finding.

pahunkboy -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 8:37:19 AM)

dissolve the congress.

subrob1967 -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 8:38:28 AM)

What they want is an America that's the leader in innovation,  manufactures the best affordable products in the world, a strong working middle class, baseball, hot dogs, & apple pie.

They want city, county, state & federal government to stop trying to regulate and tax to death what they buy, eat, smoke, or drink.

Basically they want 1948-1965 back.

Everything else you've read in this thread so far is bullshit, with Merc being the exception.

kittinSol -> RE: Which America? (3/30/2010 8:40:18 AM)

Dude!!! You're out of control. Can't you just make your own ranting thread each time you want to spout of some slogan you read on a conspirationists' website, and stop invading everyfucking thread with your apocalyptic dogma? For fuck's sake [8|] !
