Since I don't see a thread on this topic, here we go! I almost couldn't believe my ears when I heard on the radio today, that President Obama was supporting offshore drilling and exploration, off the coast of America. I think this is an excellent idea, as long as we continue to work HARD to step up and create more sources of renewable energy as President Obama suggested. This is a great "short term" decision. [sm=applause.gif] President Obama has made a wonderful decision, which hopefully will decrease our need for "foreign" oil. Hopefully, this will only be a short term "situation", so ultimately can convert to widespread renewable energy. President Obama opens offshore oil drilling and exploration

I was watching the news today when this story broke. Thought about posting it but wanted to see how long it would take for Brain to do it. Glad it was you :) Already the cable news talking heads and blogosphere from the left and the right are taking their shots. He is a centrist, ran as a centrist, governs as a centrist, has demonstrated time and again that he is a pragmatist, so why are the left and right so surprised by this decision? He even campaigned on this very issue and said that he would open up drilling along our coasts. This guy couldn't catch a break if our very country depended on it.

I agree the hard-core environmentalists have already begun planning protests. I don't care what our standing President decides to do these days, he is always going to have people people mad at him. Being a Moderate myself, I say do what ya need to do, until we can create widespread viable renewable and alternative forms of energy. President Obama clearly stated, this is a short-term decision.

Well, DUH... this was a no brainer. Heh... I used to hammer him on this, glad to see he's finally coming around a little bit Of course I was right! I only wish he'd go a lot farther because he really needs to. Theres still a lot he's keeping locked up, and with three dollar gas we need to really open the spigot up or we're doomed to go into further recession. Or is this still a depression. Oh wait. Whats that rule? During a Republican administration any downturn is a depression, but with a Democrat administration its a minor hiccup caused by Republicans. That it? Anyway, I the Chinese are drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, and thats not good for his image, them taking our oil from under our nose while our gas prices go up and up and up. Now lets see what he does about the refinery bottlenecks...

When was the great oil shortage? When could you not buy gas? Since the oil price was driven by speculation and not any shortage please explain how any of this actually has an effect on price?

Just dropped in and saw your question figured I could help with that a bit... Gasoline supply problems hit U.S. East Coast Gas Shortages Plague Southeastern U.S. Of course you also have the shortages due to hurricanes and such, which is another reason to be pro regional refineries.... Be back after I check the grill.
