Here's an excellent expose on the energy department.
http://babelishere.webs.com/health.html

Remember, all democratic plans start out small and affordable, but over the decades they quickly escalate into out of control, useless government bureaucracy that sucks the life out of the American taxpayer.

Maybe it's just http://babbleshit.webs.com/health.html
that sucks the life out of you.

By the way, the wind doesn't always blow and the sun doesn't always shine, so the futility in reality is depending on alternate energy sources. We must have enough energy to meet peak demands during these periods, and American's are not going to tolerate blackouts on a nation wide scale thanks to dependency on alternative energies.

All this discussion may be futile in itself however, if these new bloom boxes work as planned. Supposedly they can produce more energy from water than it takes to run them, and every household in America may eventually be able to afford them.

However, this is not the answer to our over population issues either. All our resources, including water (that this device uses) will continue to diminish which will drive up the cost of everything including water, metals such as copper and aluminum, and wood. Once you drive up the cost of your resources, it has a cascading effect, which reaches every level of society. This means more of your money goes to providing the necessities of life, rather than luxuries. Overpopulation if not stopped will still be our biggest downfall. The only thing minimizing the impact so far is the fact that people get on food stamps, which frees up some of their money for the luxury items such as cell phones, cable tv, internet, nice cars, and nice wardrobes. However, it won't be long before 50% are on social security, 25% are on government freebies, and 25% are working for the government. There's no possible way that is going to work. Certainly the people on social security and the people who are working for the government can't possibly pay enough taxes to pay their own salaries, and the people on food stamps are presumeably too poor to pay taxes, so who does that leave to pay the bills?

Just you I presume.

So let me thank you in advance.

I bet you were a "D" student, tops - because I attached the news article that I was referencing to the post that you're trying to question.

Sanity please regale us all with what proof,if any,you have to support your claim that "this administration wants to force us out of our cars".
When will you learn that you can not make up such outlandish and unsubstantiated fiction and go unchallenged ?

D student ,please Sanity...early genius constantly burdened with those words I came to dread hearing "unlimited potential"....none of which I realised.Which sort of explains how I come to be sitting around here trying to bring you to the light !
Now on the other hand my son has realised his potential(unlimited) and is the apple of his daddy's eye's.Gratuates Deans List NYU in a month or so...and I get to sit in Yankee Stadium and watch it(I sort of like working that stuff into a post;-)

p.s. And neither of us would be caught dead pulling a "D".....now you I'm sure garnered more than you fair share.......

~ Fast Reading ~

I happened to read behind the rhetoric of yesterday's announcement. Did anyone else?

The Interior Department will conduct the first offshore oil and gas lease sale in the Atlantic Ocean in more than two decades in November 2011. The sale cover some 3 million acres in a triangular area 50 miles off the Virginia coast. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said it could be delayed until 2012 to finish environmental reviews.

Because there is no recent exploration data available, IHS CERA says the area should be considered a pioneer province requiring modern geophysical and exploration analysis and thus could take seven years to see first production.

What will come first - drilling off the Atlantic coast or health care provided for pre-existing conditions?

Meanwhile....
California's coastal waters, however, will remain closed, in large part because of public opposition to offshore drilling, federal officials said. That was welcome news to California politicians. Days before Obama's inauguration last year, the Bush administration unveiled a plan that would have allowed offshore oil drilling along the West Coast for the first time in decades.

On Wednesday, California Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein praised Obama's move.
Of course they did! Further risking the already tenable liberal voting block would have been political suicide.

I'm reminded of a joke about a father who came home and found his little boy desperately searching for something out in the front lawn. His father asked what he was looking for and the boy said his secret decoder ring! To humor him, the dad got on his hands and knees and started looking too. After about 5 minutes the dad asked; "son-where exactly did you lose it?" The boy answered; "somewhere in the back of my closet." "Why are you looking out her then!?" - "Well - dad, the light is better."

EAST COAST (Source NY TIMES) Even at the high end of government estimates, the new production, if and when it occurs, will displace only a small fraction of the oil and gas the country now imports and consumes.

CALIFORNIA: The seabed along the state could hold more than 10 billion barrels of oil, according to federal estimates. For comparison, the nation consumes 7.14 billion barrels a year.

I can't tell you how differently this news would have been received if this initiative was taken for where the oil is - off the California coast. Apparently the President had better 'light' opposition back east.

I know, I know - I refuse to support anything this Administration does. However before having that reaction - what have they done? I'll tell you what they've done from my perspective. They made an announcement with no present day impact. They confirmed and further entrenched opposition against any drilling in places that would make an impact. The agenda was to use this toothless announcement to garner support from what is now an empowered opposition, for upcoming 'greenhouse gas' legislation which, unlike this executive order, would have an immediate impact.

From my reading I think this opinion is in line with mine: ... in North Carolina, Frank Tursi, a preservationist with the North Carolina Coastal Federation, said he believed that there was very little oil off the state's popular beaches and high risk from drilling into the seabed.

It all leaves the president with a delicious irony and that is: In order to garner support for a bill that is intended to cut greenhouse gas emissions, the administration is willing to expand the very substance that causes those emissions in the first place," Mr. Tursi said. "Pandering for votes that rely on a polluting fuel of the past is not the kind of change many of us expected."

How about you?

He even campaigned on this very issue and said that he would open up drilling along our coasts.

No, he didn't.  He campaigned against it.

Obama: Offshore Drilling Won't Provide Short Term Relief

Monday, July 14th 2008

The campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama quickly put out a statement in response to President Bush’s lifting of the executive offshore drilling ban.

“If offshore drilling would provide short-term relief at the pump or a long-term strategy for energy independence, it would be worthy of our consideration, regardless of the risks. But most experts, even within the Bush Administration, concede it would do neither. It would merely prolong the failed energy policies we have seen from Washington for thirty years,” Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said.

Hate to disagree with you but here it is:
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/state/content/state/epaper/2008/08/01/0801obama1.html
The point is, he never believed that off-shore drilling should be the policy (as you pointed out in your link), as opposed to McCain/Palin campaign. But he was never against including it as part of an overall strategy. In this case I believe it is to get Republican support for a comprehensive policy. I did listen to his many speeches during the primaries and he never said it was off the table, only that it wasn't the solution.

And in other news...

quote:

The Obama administration’s six-month delay in approving new offshore drilling leases in federal waters will become a new three-year ban, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar quietly told reporters last Friday. Which means that no new oil and gas leases will be approved during President Obama’s term even though two –thirds of the American public supports such activity, according to a December 2009 Rasmussen poll.

Sixty percent also believe that gas and oil prices will drop if the government allows offshore drilling, opening up an estimate 14 billion barrels of oil and 55 trillion cubic feet of natural gas

On July 14, 2008 President George W. Bush lifted an executive ban on Outer Continental Shelf leasing. On October 1, 2008, in a bipartisan agreement, Congress lifted another longstanding ban on new oil and gas leasing in the OCS.

Drilling was supposed to begin this July. But Salazar said he intends to discard the 2010-2015 lease plan developed by the Bush administration in favor of a new plan that won’t even go into effect until 2012.

Incompetent idiots might be better.  That area is trashed from the spill; there's still oil there only a few inches under the surface.

Merc the drilling means as little now as the Bush plan did then.

Any field that's is opened is going to take years to start bringing any volume in.  You start with mapping the area, then test wells, there are production pipelines that need built.  Should I go on?

What your really hoping from these fields is to start replacing some of the older fields that are slowing down.  None of these fields are going to have a significant impact on either price or supply.

Or, we could simply start buying oil from Brazil.
Last year they discovered two enourmous oil reserves off of their coast. And, they don't seem to have any problems with "permits" or any of that nonsense.
Their govt just says go out and drill and they're out there in two weeks not two years.
I though I read somewhere that one of those deposits was as big as the Eastern U.S.
Anyone know anything about that?

That's in deep water and they are still exploring.  You won't see any productive fields from that for awhile.  Those fields take time to develop plus the price has to stay up higher than you would probably like to make it profitable.
