DomImus -> Bands with original members (4/1/2010 6:45:37 PM)

I was trying to think of popular bands (pop, rock or whatever) who are still together and still have their original members. The only one I can come up with is ZZ Top. Can you think of any other bands whose membership has never changed due to death, departure or addition?

A few rules to follow:

1.) The band must have the same original members who were in the band when they recorded their first album - no more and no less. If John, Paul, George and Ringo were still together the fact that Pete Best was really their original drummer would not count since he was gone before they began recording albums. Also, no member could ever have left and then rejoined.

2.) The band must be the entire band who can perform live as a complete band. If the Stones were still Mick, Keef, Brian, Bill and Charlie I would not disqualify them for touring with Chuck Leavell but The Dixie Chicks don't count because they really aren't a band.

3.) Their first album had to be released prior to 1990. Twenty years is a long time.

That's it!

Nope. Joe and Brad left for a while in the 80s.

Wow. How can I take you seriously when you make such a statement? Just wow. These girls play their asses off on multiple instruments. They can play circles around tons of other artists including some mentioned already here. Not a band? Geesh................luci

It makes me wicked uncool to know this, but I'm pretty sure Rush hasn't had any member changes in about 30 years now.

Not to quibble, but do breakups/reunions count?  Because there was that awkward period between Black Francis breaking up the band by fax in 93 and the reunion in 2004 when they weren't really on speaking terms...really the band has been together for a total of about 11 or 12 years since the mid 80s.

Either way, The Pixies are definitely a better answer than my suggestion (Rush, uncool even if Geddy Lee was namechecked by Pavement).

Nice.  That reminded me, Portishead has been together almost 20 years now.

You're still cool. John Rutsey was their original drummer on their first album.

What I meant was that the band has to be totally or mostly self contained in that they play all/most of the instruments live.

For the record I don't give a flying fuck if you take me seriously.

Good question. The OP didn't say anything about this. According to Wikipedia, they are currently active.

PS - I miss Pavement :-( They were my fave band du jour of the early 90s. I think I might listen to some today!

The Osmond Brothers are all still around and "reunited" for a world tour celebrating their 50 years in show biz a couple years ago.
