We've all seen a massive rise of fetish in music videos, most notably lady Gaga, which is always good, helping it all seem a little less weird to vanilla world and influencing people to become more accepting. Just thought I'd chuck another song with fetish orientated video into the mix:

Christina's video is very hot... but, back at the end of April (when dreamofthemoon's post was made) I was on a cardio machine at the gym and saw eXtra doing back to back stories on Megan Fox in Jonah Hex (of course showing the scene where she is bound with her hands outstretched over her head) and then one on Christina's new video (constantly showing clips)...

talk about deliciously slow public torment...

If anything, it makes it easier to find toys because after years of exposure to this, there are few men who aren't at least curious enough to try the less extreme parts of the BDSM lifestyle. Perhaps there are some here, subs especially, who would have never tapped into that part of themselves had it not been for making what was considered obscene and disgusting into something one should not feel guilt over.

Perhaps even more ironic, Lady Gaga (the artist mentioned in the original post) is completely celibate. Imagery of this nature seems to be mostly random as opposed to implying anything specific with esoteric underpinnings.

I see no interest or point in trying to change the opinion of the mainstream nor do I see the mainstream becoming more acclimated to anything BDSM related (beyond the most superficial mimicry) in spite of whatever these marketing and media agencies do.

You got a point. It's not about exposure, its about understanding. The mainstream is never going to understand the BDSM world. I think you need a certain personality or state of mind to understand it and a lot of people simply don't have that. However a potential positive is that such exposure may be enough to pique interest in people who want to learn more about what its all about. And then eventually they get an itch to try it out and seek out a partner.

While Lady Gaga may be celibate, she also writes all of her own lyrics (which include a myriad of BDSM references) and has a ton of creative input into her music videos.

The record company isn't marketing her in an S/M manner, she's doing it herself, which leaves me inclined to believe that a wee bit of her may be kinky.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Adam and the Ants. He didnt just wink and nod at bdsm, he boldly sang it out loud.  Virtually all of his songs were about masters and slaves, whips and stocks.  Depeche Mode dabbled in a song, Master and Servant.
