Hi All,
I'm back, HOPPY EASTER!
I haven't posted in awhile, and I need some help here. On April 1 at 1:30a.m. I had my last cigarettte. Now I have the issue of dealing with the stale smoke smell in my semi truck. The 1st night I hardly slept because of the smell in my pillows & all & had to go buy new pillows & sheets, but of course the smell is still in the blankets & everything else in my truck. It's not so bad while I'm driving, but it's horrible when I get back in the truck, or I just wake up, like now. Febreeze isn't even cutting it.
Any help is definitely most appreciated!!!!
Lauri

Congratulation on quitting smoking! Unfortunately that smoke smell is really hard to get rid of, it embeds itself in any and all fabrics. My suggestion would be to wash everything that can be washed, any fabric, carpet, and perhaps even the walls of the back. My best wishes to you, stay strong  . Oh and happy Easter to you too.

Clean everything, carpet cleaner should help. Activated charcoal will help to absorb odors. As will small dishes of white vinegar but I can't imagine driving without spilling them.

And congratulations on stopping.

I thought about charcoal, but really don't want to buy a whole bag for a few bricks LOL I wonder if maybe baking soda would help? It does wonders for refrigerators & freezers??? LOL

I have quit 3 times in the past, the longest was 8 months. By far this is the easiest compared to the last 3. I am using Chantix & my Master is using hypnosis with me, so the combination of the 2 is helping. I have been on an emotional roller coaster & had a really tough time trying to figure out what to do with my hands, but the suggestions He gave me have REALLY helped. I chew on a hard plastic tube a little thinner than a straw & His suggestion was to squeeze a rubber ball, instead I'm using a beanie baby bear, who has been thoroughly abused thus far & is in for more abuse when I have to drive again tomorrow LOL

I am open to any and all tips, suggestions & advice, but please be kind about it, as I said, I am on an emotional roller coaster & can go from nice to bitch in about 1 second flat, and even though I'm a submissive I would so hate to have to rip your head off & hand it to you...LMAO Ok, now that I got the disclaimer out of the way, I hope everyone doesn't eat toooooo much chocolate. Me, I'm sticking to carrots, bananas, grapes, oranges, raw green beans, and stuff like that so I don't gain more weight that I will have to lose in the future.

Why don't you try some of those baking soda based odor eliminators.  Carpet fresh (and I believe they make one for pets too).  Don't know if it'd work, but its a powder and able to sift into things like seats and other permeable things.

And Good Luck with quitting smoking.

A quick fact....Did you know 2 weeks after you quit smoking your blood pressure starts to drop.  (That's sure to be a plus with the aggravation of driving on the highways )

**editted to add you beat me to it yourself with the baking soda thing lol

Good luck.

(BTW, let me know where/when you're on the road.  Last thing I need to be worried about is a truck driver with the jitters and a nicotine-jones attitude.)

Washing all hard surfaces would definitely help I would think - in the front as well as the back of the truck.

word on white vinegar. if its your truck/fabric to do with as you will, a spray bottle solution of white vinegar, water, and an essential oil of your choice (2 parts:1 part:10-15 drops) may help you more than febreeze and it would be cheaper. given time to work (and to dry while you aren't there because vinegar does smell like vinegar at first), vinegar will take smells out and not just put perfume in. i'd suggest peppermint oil. additionally, a very small dab of an essential oil near your nose (very small; they are potent!) could keep you smelling something sweet or pleasing no matter what your truck cab smells like. any local vitamin shoppe should have a selection, from peppermint to lavender to rose.

i smoked for nine years and quit every year until it finally stuck. when it gets really hard, i suggest that you play mental games with yourself. don't rely on being strong. expect to be weak and anticipate a bottom line to repeat to yourself like a mantra so that you don't have to think about it. as soon as i started thinking, i started negotiating for just one more smoke, and then i was starting all over again. two bottom lines that helped me: it takes weeks to break a habit, so i set a date i my mind like a finish line. even if i didn't make it or i still had cravings then, it helps your brain to relax when it thinks, "i only have to endure this until such-and-so." with a date set, when my addiction receptors were screaming at me, i could say to them, "just wait until [MMdd]. you don't want to smoke; you just want Nic(otine). if Nic wasn't in the cigs, you wouldn't want them. so shut the fuck up." my other bottom line was a story that i'd made up about how Nic(otine) was my abusive ex-boyfriend, and thus no matter how he sweet talked me or said that he was sorry and that this time, it wouldn't be bad, i knew that he was a liar who didn't mean me any good. sounds silly but it helped me because i could call my friend and say, "Nic will not leave me alone. he is working my nerves! he's trying to break me down, but i'm not going back to his ass. he'll kill me in the end."

lol, whatever works. good luck!

As crazy as it sounds, the 1 thing that I have still yet to be able to bring myself to do is throw away the remainder of the pack of smokes that I have left & my 2 ashtrays. I don't want or need them, but just can't bring myself to throw them out & I don't know why.
Oh & DarkSteven keep an eye on your mirrors LOL *evil laugh*

Ladi,

Ozone lamps are used to remove smoke odors.

I knew of a place (an auto upholstery shop) that
used to rent them to people repairing cars that
had interior fire damage.

As I recall you had to close it up in the car for
24 hours after you removed all the easy stuff..
But it was a few years ago so; time to Google.

Best of luck quitting!

If ozone would work, then washing down the surfaces with hydrogen peroxide will be very effective.

Stephen,

That is fine for the hard surfaces.  But what about
the headliner, and other soft fabrics that are difficult to remove?

The smoke odor is in all those fabrics.  I presumed that
bleaching the headliner was not an option and probably
impossible to do in an even fashion.  But a source of odor.

When I saw the ozone lamp being used it was because the
car's carpet had caught fire due to a catalytic converter
being against the floorboard.  No flames but lots of smoke
and smoke odor.

First these people took out the easy stuff, and remember
they were an upholstery shop so that included the seats,
carpets, and door panels.  Then they put the lamp inside
for a given time.  I think I remember 24 hours but she should
do her research to be sure.

It was a new tool to me at the time so I remembered it
and tucked it away, just in case.

When I quit, I found in my vehicle it was a matter of shampooing with a real machine, not that spray stuff from a can.  I have a furniture attachment to my carpet cleaner, and used that.  After a couple of times, it was fine.  Really concentrate on the carpet, and one area people don't think about is if there is fabric above your head, and also the blinders, arm rests, etc.

You can't mask it, you have to clean it, and it takes some effort.  But good luck I wish you well!  I'm so glad I quit smoking, and I hope you soon will have that feeling.

awww, thanks pahunkboy
It hasn't been easy, today the cravings have been strong, but I've been fighting them & not eating myself out of the truck today like I was yesterday. Yesterday no matter how much I ate, I was still hungry, which makes me really glad I had went shopping & got the fruits & veggies to munch on or I probably would have gained 20 lbs yesterday alone LOL

May I suggest looking into a cigarette replacement.  They make empty tubes that look like cigarettes that you suck air through, nothing else, so completely harmless.  Also the e-cigarettes (god bless those things, they've gotten my household to finally quit as well), have nicotine free vapour cartridges.  These help with the habitual part of smoking, the reason you are shoving foods into your mouth.  You are, after this many years, used to moving your hand to your mouth in that manner.  And you can still act on that when you come across triggers that normally cause smoking, such as driving or after eating.

Good luck to you on the quitting, it's not easy, but it's so worth it, just for the smell alone.  Of course the whole "helping stave off cancer" thing is handy too.  ;)  Not to mention the extra $75 per person per month in cig costs.  I don't know about you, but I certainly can use an extra $75/month... multiply that by the 4 people in the house and well...  yeah... $300 to spare every month?  Jeebus... $3600/year?  That's a decent used car ever year! O.o  What the hell was I thinking for the last 20 years!?

BKSir,
If Your household is smoking $75 per person a month, then you're not smoking much, "I" was smoking $175 a month give or take, depending on which state I was buying them in.
I have a really hard black tube, about the size of a straw, just thinner that I got off a pulp thermometer (a truckers thing) and I am chewing on that, it's open ended both sides, plus a beanie baby teddy bear that gets plenty of abuse the last few days, but between the 2 it does cut down on the cravings. The Chantix & hypnosis help a little too LOL
The worst part, and for some reason it seems worse today is the fact that here in Mississippi it is REALLY hot & humid. I was going to go out & walk & sit outside today, but it's just too much for my asthma to handle & being trapped in the truck it just REALLY stinks in here, giving me a headache & turning my stomach.
I have already discussed it with my ex boyfriend (which good thing for me I have him pussy whipped & he'll do pretty much anything I ask him to) he is going to totally clean & scrub not only my truck, but as soon as I get my car registered & insured, he's going to drive me 300 miles to go get it & he's going to scrub the inside of it down as well to get the smoke smell out of there too. The thing is I just have to get a day off in Kansas City, which isn't going to happen until around the end of the month or so, for him to be able to do it, 3 more weeks of putting up with this smell, Oh God, kill me now LOL

LOL, I need to find a new sub... soon...  I miss having someone whipped into doing the menial things like that for me.  And yeah, I know what you mean about vehicles.  Our car still smells of smoke, and it drives me nuts.  I don't want to get rid of it though, I love my car, but it's just not coming out.

BKSir, look back at the responses that people have posted in here. There are some good ideas to get rid of the smell. Another idea, which is costlier (is that even a word?? LOL) is get your car professionally detailed. Not so easy to find someone to do a semi truck, but there are auto detailers all over the place. I'm guessing they would probably know how to get the smell out & do it for a price LOL, because you know that the only stuff that's going to work (according to them) is something you won't be able to buy at the local Walmart or Auto Zone.
LOL I am a submissive, but still have that boy whipped, and mind you when I met him on Alt, he claimed to be a Dom...can we say role reversal here???
