Racial slurs and bricks through windows are bad but it's really Obama’s fault for not listening to their concerns. Spitting in a Congressman's face and using anti-gay slurs is "not what the Republican party is about" but if Obama would stop being a socialist and just do things the neocon way, none of this would be happening, right?

“Political Violence” Has A Right-Wing Father - The Erstwhile Conservative: A Blog of Repentance

Eugene Robinson, Op-Ed columnist for the Washington Post, wrote this today about the Christian militia arrests yesterday:

The episode highlights the obvious: For decades now, the most serious threat of domestic terrorism has come from the growing ranks of paranoid, anti-government hate groups that draw their inspiration, vocabulary and anger from the far right.

He is exactly right. And Robinson points out the myth of moral equivalence that seems to qualify much of the coverage of the Hutaree case:

It is disingenuous for mainstream purveyors of incendiary far-right rhetoric to dismiss groups such as the Hutaree by saying that there are “crazies on both sides.” This simply is not true.

Admitting that a generation ago the “political violence” came from the far left, Robinson says these days, “it is hard to identify any kind of leftist threat.”

He continues:
By contrast, there has been explosive growth among far-right, militia-type groups that identify themselves as white supremacists, “constitutionalists,” tax protesters and religious soldiers determined to kill people to uphold “Christian” values.

If you have listened to any conservative pundits on television or radio the past two days, you have heard a steady diet of “both sides do it.” To which Robinson says,

It is dishonest for right-wing commentators to insist on an equivalence that does not exist. The danger of political violence in this country comes overwhelmingly from one direction — the right, not the left. The vitriolic, anti-government hate speech that is spewed on talk radio every day — and, quite regularly, at Tea Party rallies — is calibrated not to inform but to incite.

Demagogues scream at people that their government is illegitimate, that their country has been “taken away,” that their elected officials are “traitors” and that their freedom is at risk. They have a right to free speech, which I will always defend. But they shouldn’t be surprised if some listeners take them literally.

As for the issue of Obama’s “legitimacy,” the president himself had the following to say about it and the Tea Party phenomenon, and notice how this dangerous radical who wants to destroy America has a hard time containing his utter hatred for teapartiers:

I have followed the US politics last 20 years and I have not heard any acts of right wing violence. The Oklahoma city bombing I would not classify either right or left. The recent Christian militia did not commit any acts of violence.  My guess is they were just a vulnerable target and they are used for propaganda purposes. The Tea Party movement serves actually traditional (true) Democratic agenda trying to protect American worker. US Democrat activists  are behaving like brain dead zombies. The fact is the current US government is passing trillions of dollars  to American rich under the pretext "rescuing the economy".  People are tired of propaganda and are taking various actions. It is understandable Obama administration is organizing a variety of counter-actions in an attempt to shut down and discredit the critics.

No, they just had a plan to commit violence.

Maybe we should have let them continue on till someone was dead?

What the hell is wrong with you?

Has the right really become this paranoid that you believe arresting dangerous people is somehow a plot orchestrated by the White House to silence critics?

It's this very attitude that has fueled the situation and led to people like these over-reacting and ending up getting themselves arrested.

Hardly. Tired of propaganda ? What propaganda ? What we've heard for 60 years in that 'everybody' is getting richer ?' Or more recently about WMD in Iraq ? Or we must bailout billionaires ? (under repubs)

I am aware of no democratic values that the Tea Party serves .

Or would it be that we have something called free market [sic] capitalism ? Or we must put ethanol on our gas (net energy loss, net gas mileage loss with no net envir. improvement) to the tune of $billions in subsidies and a far greater expense to American drivers ?

Or that there is some vast world-wide network of terrorists called something like 'Al-Quada ?' Or that 9/11 was the single most successful conspiracy ever in world history that couldn't be done by any govt. but could be done almost perfectly by a rag tag group of so-called fliers, at least one of which likely couldn't fly a kite ?

I believe almost nothing anymore from business or govt. yet I am not and by far most are not out spewing racial or homophobic vitriol and while harrassing political rallies, pack'n side arms with posters implying a BAR (Browning auto. rifle) could 'do the job' if Brown (new R-sen. from Mass.) couldn't.

Neo-Nazis in the making.

The GOP has had bricks through windows lately

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/28/AR2010032803181.html?hpid=topnews

But I haven't heard of any Democrat offices being vandalized in a similar manner. The spitting and slur allegations are lies as far as anyone knows. There is no proof of them.

But who doesn't recall the leftist violence surrounding the GOP convention in 2008?

quote:

I attended the convention and remember the terrorist acts that were carried out by anti-Republican protesters very well. They threw bricks through the windows of buses, sending elderly convention delegates to the hospital. They dropped bags of sand off highway overpasses onto vehicles below. Fortunately, no one was killed.

These were anti-Bush and anti-Republican protesters. Is it a stretch to think that some of them, at least, may have been inspired by over-the-top, hateful attacks on the Bush administration by Democratic Congressmen, DNC Chairman Howard Dean, Michael Moore, who was a guest of honor at the Democrats' own convention, various show business personalities, and many other leading liberal figures? I don't think so. We haven't seen that sort of hate campaign since the Democrats went after Abraham Lincoln. It seems unlikely that none of the "protesters" who tried to commit murder were inspired by those liberal voices.

Yet, hardly anyone seems to be aware of the violence that took place in 2008. At most, the story was treated with a ho-hum attitude in the press. For some reason, political violence was not a concern less than two years ago. Yet today, we can hardly imagine what would happen if a group of tea partiers were to drop sandbags off a highway overpass, trying to kill motorists below. Liberal reporters' heads would explode. But this is exactly what anti-Republican Party protesters did in 2008, and no one cared. To my knowledge, not a single Democratic politician condemned this anti-Republican violence or attempted in any way to distance the Democratic Party from it.

Anyone remember the 'weather underground' ? They were a radical left organization famous for bombing police stations and killing police officers. They were headed by William Ayers, an Obama friend who just recently visited the white house. This visit went unreported by the mainstream media. I wonder why ?

Must be comforting to only process that information which reinforces ones biases and preconceptions.
Comforting perhaps.....but also a little scary,at least it would be to me.

photo and video of arrests. Still not any actual evidence, at least according to you and Breitbart, of any violence occuring. Always remember that I apply the same standard to you that you apply to others.

Both right and left have a long history of violence.

Americans generally have resorted to violence in response to problems throughout our history.

Anarchist violence, incidentally, contributed greatly to American suspicion of Socialism.

You mean he lacks the realisation of "object permanence" Sanity?

As opposed to the permanent lack of objectivity so regularly exhibited by you here?

How is it that the two of you so commonly troll these forums together. He hijacks a thread with one of his pathetic personal attacks then you come along behind him as an accomplice furthering the hijack.

Is mike your daddy?
