So i am curious as to how you feel about posting personal things either you yourself or someone else on a message board about you for anyone who is on a publc message board such as this to read about?

Comments welcome if the poll doesn't fit why you do or don't offer personal information on a public message board like this. If you do post personal stuff or don't mind others doing so, why do you do it? if you don't, why not?

This isn't part of the poll but what do you think when people post really personal stuff about themselves or have stuff posted about themselves by others?

I will post my response later. Just a curiosity question.

angel

jbcurious -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 7:51:13 AM)

I'm quite an open person... There are times when I look back at a post I've made and think maybe I shared too much...

But the reality is I'm on here to meet someone, so the more open and honest I am about my views and personal experiences, the more potential there is to attract someone who likes who I am.... but I would hate someone else posting about me...it's for me to decide what I wish to share, no one else has that right... at least not yet. VirginPotty -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 8:00:16 AM)

I post on a need to know basis. If there's info that I think can help someone then I'll post it. I have posted personal info looking for advise but that's few & far between.

Compelling poll.

ricken -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 8:13:07 AM)

I post some personal stuff, I think the only way toget truthfull answers to my questions is to open up and be personal . I've posted a couple things in my life that was too much info, no one really knows me so who cares? I've learned what MY limits are.
When I see people post REALLY personal things I sometimes wonder about them....like how they act in reall life.
Posting about someone else is tricky I think you really need protect the other persons privacy.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 8:13:21 AM)

Hi Angel,
I hate when people post stuff about me unless I've asked them to. I always think "eep, don't jinx it!" Also, I'm pretty private (I seem like I'm not, but I am). I think there is a certain wisdom in waiting. I think posting too early is more than I would want to do. I DEFINITELY wouldn't want others to post things about me like pregnancy, illness, family emergencies, names of people or places, my itinerary, etc. The reality is that to keep something private one must actually... you know... keep private.

Frankly not being private enough has bitten me in the bum a time or two.

best,
sunshine

domiguy -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 8:13:44 AM)

Too many don't begin to realize the potential fallout for their actions out here. Can anyone remember the post several years ago where some young Domme got her life raked over the coals? "They" (some mysterious gang of internet spies...lol) found out everything about her. Turned out she was a teacher? They sent her profile and posts to her employer, to the parents of her students, they did everything they could to make her life miserable and depending upon how you measure success I believe that they cost her everything.

You may not believe this, but I rather routinely send messages to people if I see something in their profile that would allow someone to gain some "personal" information that could lead them to the poster or cause them harm if someone chose to utilize that information in the pursuit of evil.

I am here to battle evil. I stand for truth, justice, anal and the American way!!!

Some people have jobs, family and personal relationships that might be CM and bdsm friendly....I know that many of you don't. I would certainly suggest that when meeting someone for the first time that you don't spill all there is to know about yourself unless you are part of the former.

have you not read the stories about some of the folks that haunt this fucker?

LaTigresse -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 8:18:19 AM)

It depends on what it is.

My stuff, that does not involve others, I don't really care. But every single thing I put online, I consider how it might affect my loved ones. I am very protective about the people that are in my life.

It can be a balancing act at times. I don't want to lie, and sometimes there are aspects of my life that I can use as an example to explain a point I am trying to make. Yet, I feel I have a huge responsibility to keep other people's private stuff private. So I try to weigh my words accordingly. Use more broad generalizations rather than specifics.

It's important that you realize how the weight of your words might impact Ward.

Yeah, I remember her... GoddessMine. Scary shit. She irritated Anonymous and they pretty much destroyed her in return.

I'm actually a very private person. A while ago, some loser came on here (Karl, are you out there today rofl :-) ?) to post all kinds of semi-threatening stuff. It was midly annoying, but ModXI kicked his ass. Very, very sad...

Being talked about is part of the medium though, but I don't give out tons of personal info on the boards, and I certainly don't dwell on my private life: TMI is icky.

RCdc -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 8:32:59 AM)

We will post opinions and as a need to know.  But then we are in a totally sickeningtosome lovey dovey relationship that is happy and enjoyable and we don't tend to surround ourselves in drama.
I don't like posts that rant off about how great a friend and how concerned I am whilst vomiting someone elses business.(Yeah and that's relevant at the moment heyho - yes I know that sounded bitchy and it really wasn't meant that way).

We can't really answer the poll itself barely because none of the options are relevant to us.

I posted something personal once...it was about my perturbation that "the creature" (my ex) is now a millionaire. Someone responded with something like, "WTF is wrong with you? Why would you hate it that your ex is a millionaire?"

So I usually post like this:

Suck it aardvark!
Nice tits, Divi!
Beagles are boootiful!

I have seen your beagles. they look young and firm.

I can find you by your beagles.

Will your ex give Me any money not to seriously damage you?

subtee -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 3:04:10 PM)

Hahahaha, "beagles" does not mean "boobs." It's not a euphemism. [:D]

The creature would not give you money not to damage me. It's a double negative, see?

That's why he's the creature.

DesFIP -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 3:27:02 PM)

All of the possible options depending. If I was ill, I would appreciate friends posting that for me. If I felt the need for advice, I would post sufficient details to get helpful advice.

But since I don't post my town or my name or even my pic, I think I'm pretty anonymous. Not to mention that even though someone could track me down if they were willing to spend enough time and money, I can't imagine anyone wanting to.

JonnieBoy -> RE: Personal Information Broadcasted (4/6/2010 9:09:47 PM)

Depends what it is, there's stuff about me that'll never see the light of day here, not controversial, just stuff that I've decided doesn't belong here.

I'm not keen on the idea of folk posting personal stuff if it hasn't already been authorised in private, which has happened before.

My wife and I have, of course, checked stuff with each other prior to submitting posts in the past.

In reference to what Domiguy said, there's an awful lot of readers of these pages dwelling in virtual anonymity and not all of them are nice kind understanding types.

She was a poster here, but it appears that she came to the attention of the people who did her in via Youtube.  Everything might have blown over, except that she talked to a few 4chan hacker celebrities as though they were dogshit (i.e. the way she talked to her clients).  In addition to hacking her school's web site and putting an infomercial about her side job on it, they reported her to the IRS, put a photo of her house on 4chan and other sites, and published her phone number and address, encouraging people in search of lulz to order pizzas to be delivered to her.
