The next thing that happens with a VAT is that the various industries lobby the government to get exempted from the VAT. One more chance for the Poiticians to be bought by the special interest groups.

Which is one big reason I advocate for the Fair Tax, rather than exempt anything; it proposes to prebate the monthly taxes up to the poverty level of spending for a family. That way the effect is the taxes on the basic needs are eliminated (prebated) reducing the regressiveness.

I'm just not doing the personal pissing matches. I'd spend all my time correcting your claims about what I've said, for one. Learn to use quotes accurately if you want to quibble. Start your own thread if you want to discuss this issue. You're pissing on a civil and good discussion of VAT. We could use more of this tone around here--we could actually discuss differences. Luckily Obama will be stepping down in 2010. And we will restore the Republic. VAT is a fraud. For the Federal Reserve, who the government serves. Not the debt slaves. So my reply on VAT? NO. NO. NOOO.

Huckabee is a supporter of the Fair Tax, so I guess you could call it his plan in an off hand sort of way. But the plan predated his comming to the national scene.
