Mike, what's his degree in? I hope it's not one of those "waiter degrees", psychology, sociology, political science etc.

slvemike4u -> RE: A chance to brag a bit (4/9/2010 9:35:27 PM)

Film and Television....and Cinema Studies....he's a Double Major.Granted it's not Law and Medicine but all the same he still did it in 4 years....and a gold tassel to boot(Honor Roll) [:D]

LadyEllen -> RE: A chance to brag a bit (4/9/2010 11:09:16 PM)

Does this mean he'll be coming home Mike? I hope youre not expecting me to cook and clean for him? or is that why you invited me to move in and it was nothing to do with messing with other posters' heads?

Congrats! Couldnt happen for a nicer dad I'm sure! (the graduation part)

No sweetheart,I fear I did such a good job with him that I will never again have the pleasure of his living under my(your?) roof.He went off to college...and has since become quite the little independent lad(see I,m starting to pick up the local,how do you say....slang )

LadyEllen -> RE: A chance to brag a bit (4/9/2010 11:30:16 PM)

Thats a shame; and also an opportunity. Move in with him. Personally I cant wait to spill dinner all over my kids' furniture, jump on their sofas and beds and pour pop (fizzy drink - soda etc) on their carpets.

But this will be addressed right after graduation,he plans on going out to L.A. and giving tinsel town a twirl...he will need a car out there for sure.
What kind ?..Given what he has done...and the money he saved me,and my ex,by doing it in 4 years....whatever the fuck he wants.....within reason of course...lol.

Little hint on this from someone in SoCali- whatever it is, do not let him choose a car that is 'arrest me red' or any other really bright color. I used to have a 'pull me over orange' Mustang that was a serious cop magnet, and got stopped/ warned for doing 5MPH over the limit once a month or so. Since I got my current 'stealth' vehicle (grey blue Kia Rio), I have yet to be pulled over at all. There's something to be said for flying under the radar, lol. That said, you may want to spring for a good driving course that includes a bit of defensive driving, as the highways out here can be really intimidating for someone inexperienced.

That said, CONGRATS and well done to you and Michael! [:)][:)][:)][:)]

Okay,I have said he's a great kid...I never said he wasn't just a little wierd.Take this kid to a Verizon store and try to buy him a phone....he grabs the cheapest phone available...I steer him over to all of the cool ones,yanno with all of the latest gadgets...and he proceeds to patiently explain to me that it is a phone...and it's function is to make calls.So I buy him the basic flip top phone and walk out muttering to myself.
When this kid goes for a car,I figure to find myself in a damm Kia dealership.[:D]
Thanks Wyld...thanks everyone it's late here on the east coast....and as much as I would like to stay up basking in the reflected glory of my sons accomplishment...I need sleep....goodnight.

smiles... let me add my congratulations Mike.  I really do have a big smile on my face from reading all of your comments about Michael Jnr, your love and pride in him shine through and it truly is wonderful that you have chosen to share this with us.

Much joy to the both of you for this next exciting phase

Hey, don't knock the Kia, dude. [:D] Keep the oil and fluids changed, and they run forever with very little maintenance. The fact that most cops apparently can't see them is just an added bonus [:)]

Oh, and I agree with the kid about the cell phone- mine is a flip without the ability to connect to the internet, balance my checkbook, or cook me breakfast. It's just a phone, LOL! [8D]

HUGE congratulations to you and him. I know that I would not have made it this far in my studies if it wasn't for my parents faith in my abilities. Though he had the respectability of doing the hard work, you were surely a key influence and motivator. You should absolutely be proud!

It might not be law and medicine, but one of the alumni of my Communications Studies Baccaleurate Degree is none other than René Balcer, head writer for Law & Order, who I'm sure is a little better off than most lawyers and doctors ;-)

Having a similar undergrad as your son and knowing he graduated from a program of great repute, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it as not being all that illustrious.

Mercnbeth -> RE: A chance to brag a bit (4/10/2010 7:57:36 AM)

Mike,

Soak in the moment attending your son's graduation in Yankee Stadium. Take some time alone, look up, look down, close your eyes and take a deep breath creating a memory of the smell, open your eyes and look around at the magnificent structure representing the magnitude of your son's accomplishment. Take it all into memory. You may misplace or lose pictures; your memories will last a lifetime!

We are all a end result of our experiences. The good, the bad, the deliberate, the accidental; the efforts and struggles you both made to achieve this result should now be enjoyed! You did it! He did it - and Dean's List at that!

I'm sure your son is as proud of you as you are of him. Congratulations to you both!

Merc & beth

thornhappy -> RE: A chance to brag a bit (4/10/2010 8:30:58 AM)

W00ty w00t w00t and congrats!!

I was first on my dad's side, and the 2nd on my mom's, sit back and take an extra hanky!  (Will they serve beer?)

I second the recommendations on a car. You want low profile (go used, there's no salt on the roads) and some excellent driving lessons.  I drove there most of my life and holy shit, it's like a blend of NASCAR and the Grand Prix, when it's not a parking lot.

slvemike4u -> RE: A chance to brag a bit (4/10/2010 9:20:54 AM)

Yeah Thorn for a freakin liberal he is awfully personally conservative....I'm not sure he's ready for the freeways out there....but what the hell,just another opportunity to spend some time with him.Someone will have to get him up to speed on his driving..it's been awhile since his H.S. driver's ed....what the heck,I have always found the best conversations were had while the two of us sat in the car....we'll just switch seats....lol.
Thanks for the congrats.[:D]

Kirata -> RE: A chance to brag a bit (4/10/2010 4:22:21 PM)

I see I'm late to the party (as usual) but please accept my sincerest congratulations...

and that goes as well for your son.

Kirata

slvemike4u -> RE: A chance to brag a bit (4/10/2010 5:03:46 PM)

Congratulation's accepted and since it doesn't actually take place till May 12th...your not really late.
Kirata brings up an interesting thought....how do I go about telling my son of the great evening/day I have had receiving well wishes from fellow kinksters from far and near..,and of all the well wishes I have accepted on his behalf ?
