My mother claimed we were Republicans, but she never voted. My Dad was a Vietnam vet with a nice, fat case of PTSD.

At 13, I questioned the existence of God and determined that there was no reason to live.

At 17, I became infatuated with a self-proclaimed teenage anarchist whose little brother lent me books by Camus and Sarte. I can't remember who gave me 'On the Road' and 'The Zen of Motorcycle Maintenance' but they set the stage for my college years.

At 21, I was attending the ultra-liberal Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA studying Global Economy and the evils of NAFTA for the Mexican people.

At 27, I finished nursing school and became an Army Nurse Corps Officer. I was 28 on 9/11, all gung-ho to protect the U.S.A. Then Bush Junior decided to invade Iraq and I became an angry, disillusioned and confused military Democrat...a rather rare breed.

Now, these years later, I don't know what the fuck I am. I lean toward the Green Party's defense of the environment, the Democrats' concern for the underprivileged, the Republican's stance on personal responsibility and the Libertarians' desire to protect our Constitutional rights. So I too, have no one to vote for any more.

I grew up in Boston, Mass Irish Catholic Liberl Democrat Labor Union.
But, that was in the '60's and 70's when Democrats were for, "the workingman." Now it seems they're for the "not working man" and "the no speaka the english man."
I don't like the Dems or Repubs and don't vote for them anymore. I'm an Independant.

P.S. Takemeforyourown, that's funny, "The Democrats concern for the underpriviledged", Michelle Obama is in Haiti today not Cleveland, Baltimore, or Philidelphia.

Are their no "underprivliged" in Haiti ? Not to mention that Michelle as beautiful and classy as she happens to be is the "Democratic Party"

I was born and raised in the 11th Ward on Chicago's south side, which was Daley's ward. Just about everyone I knew worked for the city on some capacity, and everyone voted democrat.

I had my choice of jobs after H.S., Cop, Fireman, Streets & San, Water, Park District, all I had to do was ask.

It was common to see city employees installing fences on personal property, or sitting in the local bars during work hours, everyone knew, and nobody cared. I got to asking questions about all the crap I was seeing, only to have the ward boss's wife talk to my mother about my "attitude".

The realization of just how corruptĀ  Democrats, especially ones from Chicago were is what shaped my conservative opinions.

What an idiot. You are now a republican because you lived in Chicago?

I have a feeling you were fired because your attitude really sucked...Just like out here. Why would your attitude suddenly alter so dramatically just because you were employed? You are miserable now, you were miserable then...You were fired, you blamed the democrats and then you became a republican....Too funny.

Just another piece of the puzzle.

Before you go cracking on the conservatives, DG, how about sharing a little here? C'mon, how sheltered and spoiled did you have to grow up to be carrying around the sort of liberal guilt you've got going for you?

Enquiring minds want to know!

That's what the Quakers were trying to do when they invented solitary confinement prisons...

What does this have to do with your neighbor's house? Is that supposed to be some sort of analogy?
We are in a recession and people are suffering here and Michelle Obama's in foreign countries? Are they that out of touch with the country?

Mike, it's not what ails me it's what's ailing the White House.

Maybe that's because you're closed-minded and uncritical, completely the opposite of Zizek.

Scamper off and listen to William Buckley, or some other incoherent idiot.

See on this I would agree...I would go even farther and hazard you do not have the ability to change and evolve.
Yep ....static, a real good word...much better than "mule-headed"(that's probably how one of those "unwashed masses" would descibe it )
