Than perhaps you shouldn't have referrenced  it without mentioning those things...are perhaps we should talk about the unfair burden a working man has in supporting Social Security...yanno where every last dollar the typical working man makes is subject to this tax...where as the CEO only pays tax on a miniscule portion of his income....

let's say that minuscule portion is 20 million dollars. how much could he have improved his industry (and hired additional labor, implemented newer means of production, lowered costs, improved quality) with that 'minuscule portion of his income'?

and social security is an insolvent joke.

You're an insolvent joke.

You know pal just your use of the term "unwashed masses" is an indication of what kind of unabashed class snob you are....I'm done with you.
You are contemptible and unworthy of discussing issues with.

I'm a class snob?

perhaps. I attended public school for most of my education, then went to a private school that has boasted 40 presidential scholars. I then went to university. I am now unemployed. I'm not poor as I was intelligent with my savings and preserved my buying power quite well (remember a few years ago when I encouraged people to buy gm pre-bailout and to cash out a few days later on idiots thinking this would actually make a difference...or when I encouraged people to buy gold when it was below $800 an ounce, little things like that can go a long way) but I certainly am not rich. I am waiting for my landed immigrant status so that I can attend trade school, though I am not looking forward to having to deal with unions - who will not like me.

not your typical blue-blooded class snob, eh?

I can pay my debts just fine...even without 'acquiring' funds from the citizenry.

Then you're the exact opposite of the class you're bizarrely defending.

Just because you're not "typical" doesn't change the facts here. You have espoused ideas that benifiit one class at the expence of another and consistantly done so.You have referred to that class ,that you would have bear the brunt of all of your "ideas", as "unwashed masses"....you speak of these people as if it is their lot in life to increase the wealth of their natural betters....Yes you are a snob, the fact that it appears you are snobbish against what you purport to be your own "class" just makes you a self loathing sort of guy...it doesn't change a thing...not at all.

I despise rent-seekers.

I feel that a less regulated market would undoubtedly benefit a vast majority of the population, not just the rich.

a person's lot in life is to seek to meet his or her subjective ends.

oh, I'm not self-loathing.

I suppose an aristocratic manner and mind is in the bones, not in the pocket book.

slvemike4u -> RE: The Fallout from the Financial Crisis April 8, 2010 (4/13/2010 11:47:04 PM)

Is that how you see yourself ...as an aristocrat.....You're a bigger joke than I had thought.

Right. This is how it works.

People have these beliefs for which they find all kind of ostensibly logical arguments, but, if you wait around long enough, sooner or later you can get a glimpse of why they actually think and act as they do.

This is along the lines of what Zizek means when he says 'Show me your hamster!' The hamster in this case is this ridiculous self-image of being somehow aristocratic and superior, and hence supportive of policies and a political context directly in opposition to actual self-interest.

This is precisely, by the way, how the Tea Party movement works. They offer, in fact, two hamsters for their supporters (and the media) to 'pet' -- black people and 'socialists'.

These hamsters are dangerous as fuck.

slvemike4u -> RE: The Fallout from the Financial Crisis April 8, 2010 (4/13/2010 11:58:03 PM)

And ,as in this case.....so damm easy to dislike [:)].
and by the way variation, from where I sit the evidence suggests that you have no"spirit"...nor a soul.Or you sure you have a reflection...hurry ,find a mirror and check.

what is my self-interests? I do not support any political policies, I don't think initiating violence (or threatening to initiate violence) is justifiable.

I'm assuming you're not super-rich, that is, the class that the policies you've defended would promote.

variation30 -> RE: The Fallout from the Financial Crisis April 8, 2010 (4/14/2010 12:04:10 AM)

please, give me examples.

Silence8 -> RE: The Fallout from the Financial Crisis April 8, 2010 (4/14/2010 12:08:05 AM)

You want, let's see...

Less regulation
No minimum wage
Tax cuts for the rich
etc. etc. I know I'm missing more things, but this is enough.

Is Mike still awake? I need to take a breather.

Silence8 -> RE: The Fallout from the Financial Crisis April 8, 2010 (4/14/2010 12:10:20 AM)

You know that the financial crisis is directly related to deregulation, right? You know that that fact is not really contested, right?

I do not know this. which deregulation caused our financial crisis?

We had that. It's called the 1890s.

I really don't care if a president bows in order to be courteous and respectful but I would like a president and a political party that has the courage to increase taxes on the wealthy in order to balance the budget.

They said in the interview we face a candor gap; too few politicians are making the difficult choices to ensure American prosperity in the future.

It was nice to hear somebody tell the truth about what needs to be done to straighten out the economic mess.

Jim conducts a one-on-one interview with Robert Samuelson regarding the financial crisis and what Samuelson calls a "massive candor gap" from U.S. politicians on the consequences of continuing huge federal spending and running enormous deficits. If there is no honest accounting today, draconian tax increases and spending cuts will be needed in the future, affecting the quality of life our children will lead.

I would like a POTUS and Congress with the courage to cut spending on their pet social programs to balance the budget rather than simply increase taxes on the wealthy, the latter of which history proves has never worked. Maryland and New York are currently seeing the result of having increased taxes on the wealthy within the past couple years...tax revenue from the wealthy has DECREASED due to more and more wealthy having moved to other States.

mnottertail -> RE: The Fallout from the Financial Crisis April 8, 2010 (4/14/2010 9:17:15 AM)

more horseshit. Maryland just posted a large population increase, and I see nowhere where Ney York is decreasing due to taxation. Western New York has been decreasing for several years ..... so.....

Yanno, you bullshitters should check around before you parrot fuckheads or make stuff up, most of this is easily searchable.
