What would you bring back that isn't available now from when you were younger?

For starters my pick right now because I am hungry is....Jeno's Pizza snack trays ( have to be over 45 or 50 I think for this one)...they were little pizzas on an aluminum tray(it was the days before microwaves)...three flavors in one tray...cheese, pepperoni and pepperoni and sausage...about six of each in each tray...

I miss the Mattel VertiBird helicopter from the '70's.
I miss the pizza at the restaurant I used to deliver for in the '80's.
And with all due respect to Juliana Hatfield, I miss my sister.

I miss two restaurants that had the greatest food back east. They no longer exist as the children didn't want to continue the businesses.

Something called a 7-Up bar when I lived in California as a kid.  It was a candy bar, but was like 7 segments sealed together, one area was coconut, mmm.

In California, I was also able to get a powdered doughnut called Hostess O's, lovely raspberry in a ring inside.

I miss Disneyland and La Brea Tarpits and Santa Monica Pier, and the beach at night after a storm with all those huge broken sea shells lying around, Beef Bowl and Mongos and Sizzler and frozen yogurt places, used bookstores everywhere, and glass sided exercize centers that seemed to have only men...and yes, I used to walk by verrrrrrrrrry slowwwwwwwly, lol.  Got to love California sometimes.

Oh!  Icecream trucks with that little tinny music playing, and hotpix (toothpicks dipped in cinnamon oil) and SenSen (teensy licorice squares smaller than one of those mini-Chiclets (my grandfather used to suck on these to get rid of tobacco breath).

I miss when ingredients were real...ice cream really came from cream, ice milk really was made from milk, juice was 100% and not 10%, there was real meat in fast food sandwitches and not that bizarre stuff they pass off as meat,  when restaurant Ranch Dressing was made with real buttermilk, real butter and real sour cream were offered for baked potatoes, lemonaide had real lemons that had been squeezed that day, pudding was still made with milk and didn't come from a large can, when doughnuts had a fruit jam inside instead of thick synthetic goo, back when bakery made cakes were delicious and not from a box...and the icings were lovely and had to be cooked on top of a double boiler...not just shortning and powdered sugar and flavorings, custard in doughnuts was made with real eggs and not from a can...ah, the list could go on and on so I'd better stop now.

The Mods are likely to move this into polls because I think this might just be the never ending thread.

There is so much. Most recently as far as food an entity called Market Day had these chicken breasts stuffed with cheese and brocolli. They were great until they became new and inproved, supposedly more healthy they say. You used to get decent size chunks of the veggie in a cheese sauce that was basically melted cheese. Now you get mini flourettes in a flour based sauce that happens to have some cheese in it. This is about two years ago. If I go back in time there are alot more other things.

Getting started for real right now is not a good idea because I do have to work sometime this week. Even in the realm of fast food. The McDLT, the Whaler, the Big Barney. I miss surf-n-turf at the Ground Round. There are almost no restaurants in this town, much less those that have beer and allow smoking. I haven't eaten in a restaurant in the last five years, and smoking was not the problem, they closed up shop !

I am not even going to go into how things in the past were built with some quality and longetivity in mind. That everything, bar nothing, that you buy today is a piece of fucking junk. What I really miss most is the way of life. First of all I was indestructable 2, and yes indestructable 1 still existed and still does. But the state of mind. The freedom. The fact that I hadn't taken rsponsibility, and hadn't signed up for pretty much anything. The fact that I could tell anyone to go fuck off, and that means anyone. I didn't care if I woke up in someone's backyard or under a bush in front of a church, I was happy to wake up period.

And I don't have a clue where I got the money for breakfast, which was chocolate milk, M&Ms with peanuts, taco flavor Doritos (which are discontinued), sometimes a burrito and a V8, all followed by iced tea. I had hot sauce in my car at all times, and that was the only real problem during the time I was homeless. Keeping my hot sauce safe.

I am not all that unhappy now, it is not that bad and I can deal with it, but I can't deny the fact that I was happier waking up homeless 25 or 30 years ago than I am now. I mean, you didn't have cameras and motion sensors all over the place. I needed to go to sleep and found a bush. I was out of sight and covered with bugs in the morning. But try that today and they will probably have a SWAT team out there. Maybe I can't quite define what I miss the most.

Oh well.

  • I miss the candy bar "Look" and "Big Hunk" (Although I think I can still find the Big hunks..lol just not in a candy bar!)
  • Living in Az. I miss Georgia's sweet tea at any restaurant. If I want sweet tea now, I have to add the sugar myself.
  • 8 tracks. I used to have a collection of over 500 of them. I sold them at a pawn shop. Bad MoGa!
  • Rodeo Drive when it really was Ro De O Drive. What the hell? lol
  • Brownie Cameras
  • The original Dexitrim
  • Christmas Trees (And I'm not talking about real trees! lol)
  • Volkswagen "Thing" lol I know, but I just loved it!

Those soda pop machines that sold pop in glass bottles with metal bottle caps.

Telephone booths, with a glass doors that shut for privacy.

Chewing gum...that was not latex.

Crayola crayons that smelled of grapes, cherries, strawberries, lemons, oranges, licorice, chocolate, coconut, bananas, blueberries... They were replaced by ones that had...dirt, leather, soap, etc.  (Afraid kids would eat the fruit smelling ones?  They were NONTOXIC, lol, and if our kids ate them...then...we'd have to buy more.  Oh, this is such a terrible idea for selling a product...)

I miss my old Kimba cartoon.

I miss those old Japanese movies for families/kids, all about honor and sacrifice.  One had a giant firebreathing flying turtle, and another had a giant robot.  Godzilla movies I can always get my hands on (so okay, I do own many of those, lol) but I can't get the others.

I miss the aerial trams they used to have at Disneyland; the crocodile that used to snap at everyone at the tail end of the Peter Pan ride; The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse; and "Tinkerbelle" crossing the sky amid fireworks at closing time.

I've seen some limited edition runs of Pepsi Throwback made with sugar but I can't find anything on the retro Coke. Reportedly Coke does brew a limited run of Coca-Cola during passover that is kosher and made with sugar but it is not widely advertised.
