So you call yourself a Master? What exactly then is a Master in your personal opinion please? Who appoited you to that particular title? How did you earn that title? Who and what are you the Master of exactly?

Interesting question, and one you'll get a lot of varied responses too. And someone will quote the dictionary.

I can only tell you what I think though. In my view, it is all about responsibility. It has nothing to do with play or a scene. It is a long term commitment to owning a slave and seeing to that slaves growth for mutual benefit.

I "gained the title" after about 5 years in the local community, someone I respected said I should start using the title. A bit of self reflection later, I agreed.

Want to know what kind of master someone is? Get to know them. Go to there home - is it a wreck? Do they have gainful employment (assuming it is possible in situation)? Would you trust them with a car?

OP, you go first. Because it is unique to each of us so all you can do is identify this for yourself.
Mostly though, it is used to indicate the person is in, or wants, a TPE dynamic.

I'm not.

I'm a Dom.  A Dom is one who has a drive to control.  A Master is a Dom with considerable experience and a recognition of his abilities within the local community, by my definition.

And Doms are better looking anyway...[:)]

My definitions (with the emphasis on "my"):

With thanks to DarkSteven, a Dom is someone with a drive to control a woman.

A Master is someone who has enough thoughtful experience to be able to mold a woman to his needs and desires, and what is best for her at the same time (also often recognized in the community as such, if he's part of the community).

An Owner is a Master who has taken on full ownership of a woman for all her needs and everything she has to offer, and controls every aspect of her life as she belongs to him, and he has full responsibility for her as such. Someone once called it a "beautiful responsibility" to me. And it is my experience that a man is either "wired" to be an Owner or he's not - it's not necessarily something he grows into over time. Most have desired it from a very young age, and are "natural Owners," just as there are those that are "natural slaves."

i know others vary on these things, but these are the distinctions that i make. [:)]

A master is a title. It means about as much as other titles do -- which is to say "pretty much nothing".

Carol appointed me to that particular title. I earned it by convincing her to take my collar as a slave (by our definitions). I'm the master of Carol.

Really, when you think about it, I'm only a "master" insofar as myself and Carol are concerned. Nobody else that I know of thinks of me that way.

It is a title that a submissive/slave gives to a person who has taken the responsibility from them and now has that responsibility over them

Interestingly enough for those of you discussing fast food production, at McDonalds specifically (I can't speak for other places) one either works in the grill area or the front counter area. The front counter folks are responsible for the fries, grill area for all the other food. Once you get cross trained you get more responsibility :) Yes this is speaking from experience.. much as its not looked on as the best job in the world I learned a lot from my experience there in high school..

She did, though I have doubts appointed is the correct word. Maybe anointed?
