I believe that most who do and prefer to wear a collar in private and are quite wary of wearing it in public all the time is primarily from dressing according to the social situation they will be in. Even though I would have that sense of pride and ownership wearing my owner's collar yet if we were to visit my parents or go out to dinner at a fancier restaurant, we'd dress appropriately. Same with visiting parents and/or siblings who have no idea of our way of living or they will not understand at all. Every single one of us is guilty of acting and dressing to fit in with society's concept of what is appropriate and what is considered tacky or bloody freaky. Granted there are people who overall dress to please them and no one else yet they too will on occasion dress to 'fit in." We are all guilty of this.

My daughter is aware of my relationship with the Owners.  No one else in my family knows.  I have no need for them to know.  They wouldn't understand, it would upset them & make them worry.  My sister told me that if I keep things from my family it's because I'm ashamed of what I'm doing.  I have to disagree there.  I am not ashamed of our relationship.  It's just that their frame of reference wouldn't allow them to accept it.  I'm ok with that.  I still wear my permanent collar proudly.  None of them ask about it.  I don't need the mark to remind me that I am his but it pleases him to see it, so that's why I had it done. 

I'm with beth on that issue.  I am owned by them, so I would wear whatever pleased them without regard to my personal preferences.  I used to dye my hair very bright unnatural reds.  They told me that they didn't want me to do that anymore & I changed my haircolor.  Such a little thing to do for them, I think.  Although, when I see haircolors that are out there, I wish that I could wear those shades again.
