Don't you know that I would never insult someone I didn't like? Since we can't shake hands or pat each other on the back online, insults are like digital kisses. If I take a dig at you, consider it a compliment.

Back on track... I think this is the best thing that could have happened for the country,  Democrat AND Republican.  And independent too.

Screw voting with your party.  When your party doesn't do right, vote AGAINST them.  Period.

It used to be that strictly partisan voting was rare.  Now it's expected.  I hope that Brown ushers back in the good old days of country over party.

Scott Brown campaigned as a moderate and has acted as a moderate since being elected. He said he wasn't going to play partisan politics and he hasn't. He said he'd work to break the gridlock in Washington and he has. He said he'd reach across party lines to do the right thing and he does. When someone is a centrist, the difference between Republican and Democrat is nuance. The partisan Republicans and talking heads were idiots when they said Brown's election meant the country was rejecting Obama and moving to the right. The Independents who elected Obama are the same ones who elected Brown. It demonstrates once again that the majority in this country are moderate pragmatists.

There isn't too much to add to this except that this part of the Yahoo story strikes me as utter bollocks:

quote:

When Scott Brown scored his upset victory in January's special election to fill Edward Kennedy's Senate seat, panicked Democratic Party insiders assumed the sky was falling. Brown's election as the newest senator from Massachusetts meant that the Democrats had lost their razor-thin 60-vote majority to counter GOP filibuster threats on major legislation.

Even unapologetic liberals (the ones Rahm refers to as "fucking retards" and worse) generally weren't "panicked" by Brown.  Most of them didn't have much love for Coakley, and most of them understood that there are far worse creatures than Brown slouching toward Washington.  I have to assume that "party insiders" aren't freaking out on an epic level when well-informed outsiders are keeping a cool head.

I reserve my blind loyalty for the Cubs and choosing sides in friends' breakups--partisan cheer leading strikes me as one of the most exhausting forms of modern niaiserie americaine .I'd have voted for Brown over Coakley without thinking twice.

As to whether he was a "blessing in disguise for Congressional Democrats" I don't give a damn.  The only thing the Democratic Party (or Republican Party) is in my mind is an enormous fund raising operation beholden to a complex network of eerily incestuous interest groups.  My impression of Brown is that he's probably going to be better for the interests of his constituents than his opponent would have been.

You have it exactly right.

Couldn't agree with you more on your assessment of the so-called "panicked" liberals. What I found even more interesting than that is how both the left and right got it so wrong when it came to the two most significant centrist candidates in recent history - Obama and Brown.

When Obama won, the left saw it as a mandate to invoke their liberal agenda. They were very wrong and now they are pissed at Obama because he won't go along with them. The day after Brown won his election, I watched O'Reilly rant and rave about how the country was rejecting Obama's liberal agenda and was indeed evidence of just how far to the right we were as a nation. Both of these groups were sadly mistaken.

It has always been my view of a "straight ticket" voter of either stripe as a lazy voter. But that comes with a proviso and it is the Republican insistence on fidelity to certain party principles. If they continue to demant lockstep rigidness from those that sport their brand....and one disagree's with one or more tenet of those principles than it becomes than it is not an expression of laziness to vote a straight "D" ticket....it is more a reaction.

TheHeretic -> RE: Has Scott Brown turned out to be a blessing in disguise for congressional Democrats? - Yahoo! News (4/16/2010 9:56:35 PM)

Ever heard of a Senator named "Liebermann," Mike?

slvemike4u -> RE: Has Scott Brown turned out to be a blessing in disguise for congressional Democrats? - Yahoo! News (4/16/2010 10:03:28 PM)

Yep,don't think much of him.....but if what you are trying to call attnetion to is his supposed mistreatment of poor Joe at the hands of the Dems....please remember he backed and campaigned for the Republican candidate for President. That is a far cry from simply having an independant thought on a given point.
Lieberman was a confesed politician from the get...and yet the dems never coined an aconym for the likes of him....as far as I know there is no equivalent to the dreaded RINO tag....perhaps you could point one out to me?

TheHeretic -> RE: Has Scott Brown turned out to be a blessing in disguise for congressional Democrats? - Yahoo! News (4/16/2010 10:06:59 PM)

A bit earlier than that, Mike. Something about "fidelity to certain party principles." As things turned out, those "party principles" were nothing more than a shameful lie, but they stayed pissed at Joe anyway.

slvemike4u -> RE: Has Scott Brown turned out to be a blessing in disguise for congressional Democrats? - Yahoo! News (4/16/2010 10:09:48 PM)

You will need an example of someone a little bit more...shall we say principled to make any impression with me Rich.Joe is a piss poor example of a Dem(cough, cough) hounded from the party ranks.

It's really a shame that Hunter Thompson fried his brain, before splattering it all over his den. I would so love to read his screed on the Democrat Anti-war scam of 2006.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Has Scott Brown turned out to be a blessing in disguise for congressional Democrats? - Yahoo! News (4/17/2010 6:37:13 AM)

FR:

Scott Brown campaigned on being an " Independent Voice " for Massachusetts. He called his seat: " the people's seat ". He said he would vote the will of the people he represents. So far he is doing exactly what he said he would do.  THAT is refreshing, even if I don't always agree with him.

I am proud that my Senator is actctually staying in Washington and doing the work we sent him to do. He's up for re election in a year and a half and he will have to stand on his record in Washington and the fact that he stayed true to his campaign promises.  Not his attendance at a Tea Party Rally.

Yea, I wondered about that one. I guess if that is true, based on the way she talks about sanity, they should be announcing the date any time now.
