Members of the Tea Party may have voted for him, but he could not have gotten elected with Tea Party votes alone. It was the Independents and moderate Democrats who supported him as a block that secured his election. It shows that he has broad appeal across a large spectrum of voters. That is why he doesn't want to be affiliated with the Tea Party and keeps snubbing Sara Palin. He understands that his political future does not live and die at the whims of the Tea Party.
Brainiac,I get and understand your reticence in "derailing " this thread into another pointless tea bagger discussion(hell FDD's posts are evidence enough of why you would like to avoid it) but in truth how is the subject of the thread to be honestly looked at...if the tea baggers themselves are ignored?

Well, I was hoping they could see the bigger picture re Brown and Crist and maybe take a step back and reevaluate. I guess I was wrong.

Believe what you want...

What's the matter FDD?

You claimed the teabaggers consisted of a diverse grouping of poltically-active Americans.

With that amazingly diverse group I would assume there would be a diversity of candidates they support.

So again, show me one Democratic candidate the tea party has endorsed or supported.

Not that it matters, the Tea Partyrs don't endorse Democrats as a general rule because Democrats are individually and as a group working hard to spend as much of our grand kid's inheritance as fast as they can.

But, because its so much fun to prove you wrong...

Democrats are holding the purse strings right now, and whenever a Republican or the  Republicans try to reign in some of their outrageous spending the Democrats try to demonize them:

With hard work and perseverance fiscal Conservatives can take the Republican party back which thats our best hope from here.

Fair enough.

I asked for one and you gave me one, but even as you said, the teabaggers do not normally endorse Democrats.

In fact, as your link said, this is the first and only:

Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, snagged an unusual endorsement Thursday from the Tea Party Express, the group with the greatest national stature in the loosely organized Tea Party movement.

Minnick is the only Democrat to land an endorsement from the organization, which had a rally Wednesday in Boston with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and another rally Thursday in Washington. The Tea Party Express announced its slate of endorsements and targets Thursday at the Washington rally, held to mark the April 15 tax deadline.

The Tea Partyrs are also working to get rid of big spending Republicans, its primarily about fiscal restraint. And how many Democrats are genuinely fiscally conservative?

McCain, Crist, and anyone else not Conservative enough. Thomas is right on this one. The Tea Party is primarily about establishing fiscal constraint and Republicans are every bit as much in their crosshairs as Democrats.

The problem, Thomas, is that many of us believe the Tea Party is misguided in their understanding of the fiscal problems and thus its solutions. The movement often comes across as wanting to balance the budget at the expense of the most vulnerable in society, which is just wrong on so many levels.

All well and good Sanity....and yoou got the requisite shot at the Dem's in...with the whole "purse strings" thing. But now explain why Republicans were not so worried about our grandkids money when they did hold the purse strings ?
And please don't do a whole" I'm not here to talk abou the past" thing.....Mark is still trying to live that one down.

"often" my ass.If fiscal responsibilty was job #1 ,the end all be all that they shout from their soap box's than raising taxes to get there would be part and parcel of their agenda. It isn't and it ain't
Cutting "entittlement" programs serves two purposes cutting costs and doing so at the expence of what is seen as the new and very scary enemy. To whit...."those not like us who are now voting and in numbers large enough to matter"

Don't try to pretend that fiscal conservatives have never been for fiscal restraint in the past, mike. Thats just nonsense, and I'm not going to argue the obvious with you like this.

But if you really are interested in reading about the genesis of the modern Tea Party movement, Rick Santelli started it on a CNBC broadcast last year.
