hey, x---dont get frustrated, random whoevers on the internet dont order me around neither, just like tazzy.....you'll get used to it.

Taz, the constitution sets forth that the right to these things (1.8  dealt with in one sentence, obviously to be filled out later by legislation) and the supreme court held that since naturalization is in the power of congress it also includes immigration, so it would seem there is a right to this privilege that is dispensed thru legislation...

Note that it would not be an omniscent and fundamental human right to all breathing meatpopsicles according to current legal thinking.

cadenas -> RE: The State Senate in Arizona passes new immigration law (4/30/2010 10:56:24 AM)

Short version of my answer in the other thread:

We have the right to make (almost) any immigration law we like, no matter how stupid and unworkable it is. We just have to live with the consequences of whatever law we make.

Now, here is my question...

Is immigration, visas, legalization, naturalization, ect... a right or a priveledge?

xbrand -> RE: The State Senate in Arizona passes new immigration law (4/30/2010 10:57:59 AM)

Label ? Labels?

Oh yes, I saw the Documentary on FDR.

Labels? Labels?

xbrand -> RE: The State Senate in Arizona passes new immigration law (4/30/2010 11:04:51 AM)

Yeah, maybe I'll get used to it.

You throw something out, see which fish will bite...and here, bonus, an added plus...Tazzie.

But, I must admit, I was surpised anyone took the time to google my statement, (thishereboi).

'be sure to know someone before you label them'.......LORD have mercy, give me a break.

I'm impressed. Confused, too; it seemed to me that you were among those the Arizona law was supposed to pander to, so how come you are suddenly opposed to it? In any case, I'm glad to hear that you are supporting the LA protests!

I don't understand why you would be impressed; however Ill try to clear up confusion.

The only consideration of the Arizona law that panders to me is the result of eliminating corporate access to cheap exploited labor. I'll support that in any venue at every opportunity. I love to 'play' in the corporate environment but believe in a level playing field. Lack of enforcement regarding immigration tilts the playing field in two ways; it undercuts the ability for US citizens to be compensated appropriately for the work they do, it allows corporations to exploit illegal workers to their aggrandizement. I am against both, therefore I do favor the intent of the Arizona law while understanding its lack of authority. It speaks to the frustration of the people of the State of Arizona.

The AZ law should be ruled unconstitutional based upon that enforcement of immigration being a Federal responsibility. They have some very convoluted language in the law to try to rationalize their position; however the fundamental pragmatism should prevail in the Supreme Court - political agenda notwithstanding.

I am neither for or against any protest. I favor public displays of a position because it discloses people. In this instance protesters and their supporters, are representing a position supporting illegal action. It's been done in the past, it will be done in the future. His participation and advocacy on this matter points out the Mayor of LA is in favor of breaking the law. I hope, although I doubt, his opponents exploit that reality in upcoming elections.

Fast reply -

I believe this is a San Francisco story:

quote:

Students Kicked Off Campus for Wearing American Flag Tees

Freedom of expression or cultural disrespect on Cinco de Mayo?

On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office.

"They said we could wear it on any other day," Daniel Galli said, "but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today."

The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts "incendiary" that would lead to fights on campus.

"They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended," Dominic Maciel, Galli's friend, said.

Well, talk about Arizonas immigration law.....

tazzygirl -> RE: The State Senate in Arizona passes new immigration law (5/6/2010 11:34:48 AM)

I mean no offence to anyone, but i have to ask.

quote:

Mexico
Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday limited primarily to the state of Puebla. There is some limited recognition of the holiday in other parts of the country.[17] For the most part, the celebrations combine food, music, and dancing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo

Why are we giving more recognition to this holiday than the people of mexico?

mnottertail -> RE: The State Senate in Arizona passes new immigration law (5/6/2010 11:37:11 AM)

Up here you better celebrate Syttende Mai, by god --- those guys cant even count far as we are concerned.

The current law,as you well know, offers some pretty stiff felony sanctions against those who would employ illegal aliens. What is it?...Ten thousand dollar fine and/or ten years in the can for each offence.
Wouldn't it seem more likely to go after those who hire the illegal instead of targeting the illegal as this Arizona law does? I mean a business is not driving down the highway it is stationary and the cops can drive up any time and check...

tazzygirl -> RE: The State Senate in Arizona passes new immigration law (5/7/2010 9:54:26 AM)

When i worked in CA, i do recall INS doing their periodic sweeps. But, by the time they came through, all the illegals were gone. lol no one wants to bust businesses because they simply pass on the fines as an expense of doing business to the consumers.

Lets suppose you have employed a hundred illegals and you get caught. minimum fine is going to be 100 x $10,000 plus 100 years in jail no parole.
They can also apply the RICO statutes and confiscate the business and all of the assets of the corporate officers.
Just how would one pass anything on to any customer when you are in prison and your company belongs to the government?
All that is stoping them is the will to do so.
It seems pretty clear though that you would prefer to continue to pick fly shit out of the pepper.

tazzygirl -> RE: The State Senate in Arizona passes new immigration law (5/7/2010 10:03:49 PM)

In a perfect world, the CEO and the Board would go to jail. When was the last time this world was perfect? At best the buck would stop at HR and whoever heads that.

We can talk about fantasy land and how it should be... but reality is what we need to deal with. Once they start enforcing this, they cannot stop without showing favoritism. How many of them own stock in many of the companies employing such labor? How many have dinner in homes with friends who employ such people? How many employ them directly?

Should they start arresting the employers? Yup.

Will they? Nope.
