I don't understand why you would be impressed; however Ill try to clear up confusion.
The only consideration of the Arizona law that panders to me is the result of eliminating corporate access to cheap exploited labor. I'll support that in any venue at every opportunity. I love to 'play' in the corporate environment but believe in a level playing field. Lack of enforcement regarding immigration tilts the playing field in two ways; it undercuts the ability for US citizens to be compensated appropriately for the work they do, it allows corporations to exploit illegal workers to their aggrandizement. I am against both, therefore I do favor the intent of the Arizona law while understanding its lack of authority. It speaks to the frustration of the people of the State of Arizona.
The AZ law should be ruled unconstitutional based upon that enforcement of immigration being a Federal responsibility. They have some very convoluted language in the law to try to rationalize their position; however the fundamental pragmatism should prevail in the Supreme Court - political agenda notwithstanding.
I am neither for or against any protest. I favor public displays of a position because it discloses people. In this instance protesters and their supporters, are representing a position supporting illegal action. It's been done in the past, it will be done in the future. His participation and advocacy on this matter points out the Mayor of LA is in favor of breaking the law. I hope, although I doubt, his opponents exploit that reality in upcoming elections.
