Popeye, if you feel like you're being harrassed (which I can only assume people would start feeling like, if it was happening all the time) why not???  Aren't you an American citizen?  Why would you stand to be harrassed to prove your citizenship all the time?

When Florida was profiling I-95 for drug runners, it got to the place where they stopped ALL blacks and hispanics travelling along that hwy.  It lead to all sorts of lawsuits.  Vogel wouldn't even return money to people who were deemed to be actually passing through. 

Violating rights like that are never a good thing and leads to more prejudice and discrimination.

So sue away, if its bothering you.  I would!!

Hello, Just some 'background noise'; years ago, being in my late teens, I was stopped by police, on 4 or 5 occassions, asked to present ID, driver's license, and other forms of ID, fill out a sort of registration type card, containing, SS#, residence, born info, employment info, etc. Now, this was many years ago, I am not Latino, nor Mexican, nor do I look like one. There was no crimes, nor was I a fugitive, nor was I engaged in any shady, suspicious activity....just walking down the street in the middle of downtown Phoenix.

So why was I stopped.....because the police wanted to stop me. So what is the big hoopla. When I was stopped, there wasn't a law, now there is one....soooooo.

What about the Random road-checks ??

The police will do as they wish....what are you going to do about it. It seems to me, that it may have been illegal for this random stopping of a citizen.... even years ago...now they just made it legal.

So what are you going to do about it?

Louve, it wouldn't bother me. I'd rather see the feds, state and locals doing their job instead of sitting at a donut shop.
The real issue here is that the federal govt. isn't even close to doing their job!
That border needs to be closed! Mexico is not our "friend." I can think of nothing better as a "gift" to them and to the Central American countries than to deport all of their people back to their home countries.
President Obama is certainly aware of this problem as was that prick Bush yet,.....he does nothing!
What kind of government do we have that only does what they "feel like doing???"
Strictly enforcing our laws and closing that border would solve a lot of problems in this country.
What if you had a child who was killed by an illegal alien in a DUI accident?
Foreign countries need to solve their own problems and stop sucking off of the U.S.!

Also, I was a teenager in the 1960's. Some days we'd get stopped by the police three or four times a day and asked to show them our *Draft Cards* which we had to have, *on our person at all times!*
That's not "harrassment" it's "being in compliance" with the law.

What happens next is a number of court challenges that will find this farce unconstitutional.

We've been driven to that???  I think we are aquiring a pack mentality, here.  While I agree the gov't isn't handling it efficiently, infringing on rights (another wrong) certainly isn't the way to right the first wrong.  Fight drugs as we fight drugs with our own citizens, if this is all about drugs.  If its just about the alien nation here, then as mentioned earlier in this thread, crack down on the construction companies, the agricultural companies, who pay these illegals to save themselves a buck.  Taking away their ability to live here illegally by making it harder for them to pay their rent, buy their groceries will cut down on it natually and all on its own.  There are better ways to deal with this.

That's true............up to a point. Once they can't find employment they'll seek Public Assitance which they'll receive alot easier than residents who are here legally.
They already have driving priveleges. What's next? They can vote? Run for President?

I'm doing my part. I'm on the condo board here and we are not going to renew the contract we have with a grounds maintainance co who has illegals working for them.
The contract is up in May and they're out.
With 14-17 % unemployment in this area there is no excuse for any co. to be using illegals.

How on earth are they going to get public assistance if they're an illegal?  They don't have proof of citizenship.  That an employer will hire them without that proof only means they have to pay them half of what they pay an American...or whatever they choose to pay a legal citizen.  You don't hear the illegals complaining about that being unfair.  Thats because they don't have any grounds to complain, and they know that.  Its bad enough being illegal can lead to free health care if they get sick (via an emergency room because I doubt again, they have insurance), but I doubt they have the nerve to place themselves in front of a public servant.

I really feel thats a better recourse.  It gives American jobs and doesn't enable an illegal.  Its a start.  If the rest of the nation would do it, it might be a better day today.

You're wrong Louve00, they're ALWAYS in the ER in my area (DC, MD & VA)
I'm an EMS provider on an ambulance doing volunteer work & they always call 911 AND ADMIT to being illegal but we still have to take them.
I've strapped broken bodies to backboards in car accidents caused by illegals with a legal drivers license so thinking they'll be getting Public Assistance isn't too far of a stretch for me.

Not in Arizona, i the birth certificate bill passes.  There will be only 49 states that vote for the electors for president it appears.

The problem with illegal immigration is the Repubs want cheap labor for big ag , the Dems want new constituents, and both want the taxes collected on all the fake SS#'s the illegal's use.

Don't expect anyone in the federal government to do squat about illegal immigrants.

As far as profiling goes, if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's more than likely a duck. And if it's duck's breaking the law, you take care of the duck problem.

Medical attention yes.  They're aliens, they aren't suicidal and when they are sick or their children are sick they do go to the emergency room.  I am talking about money though.  Lets quit enabling them into our system.  Lets quit giving them money by giving them job.  Hell, if you're into buying drugs, buy your drugs from an American!!! lol  (sounds silly, I know...but we are not totally blameless in the enabling process, we just have to do it a better way than stopping every brown person on the street, expecting them to be illegal.

They actually have to submit an ss number in most places to hire people. My company ran mine when they hired me. That would be the start of things. A national datbase that would instantly have the staffing to cross check numbers on new hires. And make companies and employers accountable for using it-and reporting that EVERY employee was a legit one.

The only way to end this issue is to take away the wiggle room people have-and then start agressively going after illegal EMPLOYERS. The under table stuff is the only way these people survive here.

But I will go this far. Impliment the system first.....The reward illegals who turn themselves in with 1,000 bucks to cover a few things while they try to find work back home. And get thier finger and retinal prints.

Automatic year in jail if we catch them here without documentation again. In a labor camp-earning thier keep. And sending NOTHING home to relatives.
