Conceptually, how can you see a problem with a candidate for office- POTUS, county sheriff, or other- proving he is legally qualified to occupy that office? The federal courts have denied previous suits on the basis of lack of standing. I'd love to see them hear a suit from a state Attorney General requirong candidates prove they are NBCs. Other states have and/or are doing similar things.

Am I correct in thinking that non-citizens here legally are required to keep their "papers" (passport, visa, green card, whatever), with them?

Yes, what I experienced, when their was no state law, was indeed illegal...but now, the police can stop anyone, white or black, brown or yellow, or pink, as for papers, which caused problems in the past, is now solved. The police are within their jusidiction, to enquire. It used to be, they needed evidence of probable cause, not now. So, you are stopped, asked to present your papers....are you going to argue with the cop? No, simple as that. You are outraged...go to an attorney...$5000.00 dollars please......so you are going to go to court on 'principal'...no. So you go to the civil liberities union, complain...are they going to take up your case...no.

Oh stop it.....you are going to complain, and put up an outlay of cash, take time off from your job, don't be absurd. You first have to prove you were 'damaged in some way, suffered somehow from the alleged actions against you. The AZ law now gives over to the authorities full power, to stop anyone, irregardless of race, with this law, unconstitutional or not, the police have the law on their side...the burden of proof rests upon the individual citizen. Get real.....a cop stops you, asks for your IDs, and...you are going to give him an argument on constitutionalities. Don't be absurd.

Timely since precedent has been set in applying the US Constitution to non-US citizens in the matter of those standing accused of 9/11. Hey, I hear ya Merc, nevertheless; it is what it is. I don't see any reason they can't do random roadblocks thingies, without any additional law, and see the dl of everyone who goes thru the checkpoint, their drivers license laws require ssn and or birth certificate. That is the law they should beef up constitutionally. To get a passport you have to have certified copies of your birth certificate, why not a drivers license, or a valid alien card, cant see that as a hassle in the law. My point is why fuck around with unconstitutional law because you are pissed off? Why not close it up?
