No reporters allowed? Where the hell are we, because this can't be the United States.

Can it?

quote:

Most transparent White House ever...

Police chased reporters away from the White House and closed Lafayette Park today in response to a gay rights protest in which several service members in full uniform handcuffed themselves to the White House gate to protest "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

People who have covered the White House for years tell me that's an extremely unusual thing to do in an area that regularly features protests.

Full story and video here

It floors me that anyone gay wants to die for some corporation.

I know a gay guy in the Army.

They put him as a cook. So-- the guys pretty much have to be civil.

If gays do not like war, then why volunteer to die?   Makes no sense to me.

Sanity -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 8:11:50 AM)

(Reuters) - Gay rights activists heckled President Barack Obama this week at a Democratic event that exposed signs of disenchantment threatening the party in November's congressional elections.

But the bigger issue to me is the way the police forced the media away in a public place...

That isn't right. Whatever they did to the protesters should have been done with the cameras rolling.

Sserpentia -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 8:15:29 AM)

Such propaganda! The white house has been trying to shut down protests and people from the "right" since they took office over a year ago....but that's ok with everyone. No one shouts "Can this really be America". But shut down a liberal protest ONCE and the whole country is going to hell. What hypocrisy!

This administration has taken great liberties with the press since they came into office as it suites THEM. Soon, they will take liberties with even their own base and then we will see how happy every one is with them.

I don't approve.

And I didn't approve when Bush/Cheney shut down dissent either. Where were you?

If we're going to have open government, or at least meaningful movements toward discussion of it, people will have to lose the partisan hats and call bullshit on bullshit, even when it's their own faction.

Having spent many of my younger days with a Betacam on my shoulder, there have been numerous times when the officer in charge set a line and ordered everyone behind it.  Was also told more than once if you cross that line again I'm gonna arrest you.

I've been covering protest before where an entire section was shut down and everyone cleared.  Why the officer did that here, I haven't a clue.  Just like I have no clue what your point is.

Sanity -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 10:32:55 AM)

Oh yeah, there were all those reporters that Bush / Cheney had shot. I had forgoten about that...  [8|]

Brush it aside if you like. But that's the essence of the situation. Openness or partisanship.

You've made your choice.

Sanity -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 10:38:44 AM)

So exactly how many reporters did they shoot, anyway. I must have missed that news  story.

And how does whatever it is you're mumbling about excuse what the Obama Administration did to the reporters in the article I posted here?

Bush took 8 years of shit from the MSM and the left, and we never heard a complaint from him.
Obama cries about criticism every chance  he gets, he's very thin skinned, and a whiny assed bitch.

Musicmystery -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 10:40:41 AM)

EVERY President whines about criticism from the media.

Absolutely including Bush.

You're so anxious for a partisan argument that you completed ignored my very first sentence, where I agreed with you.

Wake up and take off the left/right glasses, Thomas.

Sanity -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 10:47:58 AM)

Because you dragged in some nonexistent thing that you allege Bush did in order to excuse whats happening right now, I'd say you're the one who needs to have his glasses reground, Tim. I believe that you bring Bush in every time Obama's caught doing something that you know is wrong, just like a knee jerk reaction.

Here's what I said:

If you're claiming that never happened, then you truly are living in your own artificial world.

You want openness, fine. Me too. But here you are defending the most closed door White House since Nixon--in fact, denying it even happened. And then projecting the partisanship to others.

Yes, that's a skewed view. In fact, skewed by definition.

An apology -

quote:

UPDATE: U.S. Park Police spokesman David Schlosser tells POLITICO his service erred in pushing the reporters back, and stressed that the White House played no role in the move.

"That was strictly the U.S. Parks Police that screwed up – that has nothing to do with the Secret Service of the White House or the Administration," said Sergeant Schlosser. "We had some young officers who, when they were told to move the people back -- which we typically do when we're going to make arrests - they moved the people back a lot further than we typically do. That was a rookie, amateur error and they screwed up on that."

Lucylastic -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 10:55:23 AM)

Has anyone said why the protest was cut short?
From the other accounts I have read, it lasted for an hour before the place was cleared...I think I prefer to find out why?
