pahunkboy -> Bikes-- a threat to "security" (4/22/2010 3:30:12 PM)

http://www.thisisfyf.com/2010/04/happy-fucking-earth-day-hundreds-of-bikes-trashed-for-obama-visit-.html

Citing security concerns that bikes might be secret pipe bombs, NYPD officers clipped the locks of hundreds of bikes along Houston Street this morning in preparation for President Obama's speech at Cooper Union.  The bikes  were unceremoniously put in the back of the truck.  There was no prior notification of the bikes needing to be cleared along the route by NYPD and onlookers were not given information as to what would become of the bikes.  Happy Earth Day!  (Updating this story as more information comes available.)/snip

I wonder if the city will have some abandoned bicycles for sale at their next auction?

Sure- right next to the pipe bombs?  lol

Termyn8or -> RE: Bikes-- a threat to "security" (4/22/2010 5:00:32 PM)

Wow, I had never thought of that. It would be easy to make a pipe bomb out of a bike.

Thanks for bringing this to my (our) attention.

It is not an altogether new concept.  The fellow who used  to be the head of the world bank got picked off by a bicycle bomb parked next to the side of the road the armored limo was driving on and by remote they detonated it and it sent a copper plate through the back door and out the other side...it kinda made a puddle of the poor phoque in the back seat.

Aneirin -> RE: Bikes-- a threat to "security" (4/22/2010 8:03:33 PM)

I would have thought removing bicycles without the permission, informing or even posting a warning (to) the owners was theft, but I suppose there is truth in the old adage ; it takes a thief to catch a thief, that can be applied to any crime, just change the occupation.

Well, if it's on some wacko blog, it must obviously be true. So let's all get worked into a frenzy about it!

pahunkboy -> RE: Bikes-- a threat to "security" (4/22/2010 8:17:49 PM)

I am looking into it.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Bikes-- a threat to "security" (4/22/2010 8:20:18 PM)

You might not have to look too far, PA. Halfway down the front page of that blog, someone who lives in that neighborhood said the police have had signs posted for days.

Ahem, did it ever occur to anyone just WHY all these ridiculous security measures are taken ? Could it be that these MFs actually know that they deserve to die ? You automatically assume that anyone who would kill is crazy, I submit that this is not true.

You say Hitler was crazy, you really think so ? What about the French revolution, you think ergot in the grain was the only fucking reason for it. When someone there said let them eat cake were they sitting on a park bench among the people ?

Why do ex Presidents have SS protection for life. Come on who would kill good ole Jimmy ? Can you say IRANIAN ? Could it have something to do with the Shah, and people tortured to death under his regime and something called remaining family members ?

I met cocksnitch (Dennis Kucinich). It was before he was a congressman. He only had one guy with him as he came canvassing at the greasy spoon where my cohorts and I were discussing improving the design of our tinfoil hats. He did not have bodyguards. Bet he does now.

Thank you for the idea on the bikes really. Now that I am well shielded from their rays I have given it some thought and am working on designing a bike gun. The idea is so perfect. I can make it easy to load while riding and include an integral silencer. Shit, glad you caught me before I sold that longbed lathe, the one the olman bought specifically to work on weapons because of the long bed. I figured I'd sell it because I would not need that extra capacity but now I am going to pull it off the market.

Now I have to find the olman's rifling tool. I think that will be my project now. Shit I could ride all over the place and wreak havoc. I used to like havoc. And now I'll have a use for those vest piering 7.62X39s as well. They are cluttering the place up.

Shit, this is so perfect, just one more little control on the handlebars. The mass of the bike will absorb so much of the recoil, and I can then design a better silencer module for it. I can kill again and again and again. No powder burns or traces on my hands, practically no recoil and just about no sound at close enough range. No firearm to be found on my person. Perfect.

Thank you very much, well not you, THEM. That's what crazoids like me should be looking for. Like when they won't let you have your shaving cream on an airplane, at this point I figure there must be something I can do with it now, just have to figure out what.

And I promise not to be a bigot, I'll only kill Whites. There are plenty of them who need it. You take care of the rest.

Made my day, I dare say.

Bikes can be removed at any time by the council and without warning, people should store them in dedicated areas but even in those the council could remove them at anytime if it so wished.

Aneirin -> RE: Bikes-- a threat to "security" (4/23/2010 6:49:58 AM)

That should happen to myself, I would at once report the cycle stolen, as removing my property without my knowlege or consent is theft. The breaking of locks or ther security devices I would argue is criminal damage and would expect to be compensated for my loss of property and inconveniences caused by the removal of my sole form of transport.

I always park my cycle in designated lawful parking areas and ensure it is not left so as to pose a risk to others.

( I am one of those people that if shit is going to happen, I am the one that gets it, so I make sure of what I do )

SohCahToa -> RE: Bikes-- a threat to "security" (4/23/2010 6:57:49 AM)

You can report it stolen just like you can report Jesus for molesting you but it doesn't mean anything will come of it.

Aneirin -> RE: Bikes-- a threat to "security" (4/23/2010 7:23:47 AM)

I expect the police to act on a complaint made, they are duty bound by law to investigate and there take action where it is necessary or required if a law has been broken.

I believe councils have to inform the police if they are going to forcibly remove a cycle, often, they do not bother and the police do not care.

Just for the sake of interest, pedal cycles and motorcycles can to some be the most expensive possessions  some people have, a possession not easily replaced, based upon the income and available funds of a person, not everyone can afford flash cars and the crime of the theft of a cycle should not be rendered insignificant compared to the theft of a motor vehicle.

SohCahToa -> RE: Bikes-- a threat to "security" (4/23/2010 7:28:12 AM)

Well the reality is the police wouldn't be able to act because councils have a legal right to remove your bike from council property.

I.e. would you expect a parking control company that tows you car away to be prosecuted, your first thought would be that your car is stolen but the reality is it hasn't been. I'm not sure if the council has to inform the police I suspect the police would have a number to check or would give you a number to check.
