Is the 2nd episode online anywhere? It's not on South Park's site -- I need resolution!

TheHeretic -> RE: Free Speech on "South Park"? (4/28/2010 8:45:35 PM)

I don't think they have 201 up. Tonight's episode was about the lamest I've seen in a while from them, though.

Hello Taleon,
It is not about appeasing all people...you cannot just 'brush off' threats, and write to these loose cannons, tell them "it's our right as .....etc, etc." these cannons rolling around on the decks may just 'GO OFF', and then what. You have dead people, property destroyed, and others who will join the carnage, claiming religious persecution, intolerances, and all sorts of reasons to lash out at the infiedels who would destroy the world of Islam.

So the recanting of S.P., the appeasement as you call it; averted the possibility of an all out 'Holy War'; or maybe just the two S.P. guys being shot down; But, you would rather see, people die and be maimed for the Free Speech rights of a badly done TV show.

As to S.P.'s motivations...unless we were privy to the board meetings...we really can't say for sure.

So, you guys can go elect Thompsonx as commander in chief of your army, and go...kick ass.

And when will you and your crew be leaving?

South Park created the possibility of a holy war? Don't you think that's exaggerating, like, a million percent?

Since no one has threatened to murder me I have no plans to leave.
I am sorry you failed to notice that in my post.

xbrand -> RE: Free Speech on "South Park"? (4/29/2010 10:00:10 AM)

The key word is, 'possibility'...one can start the ball rolling, and who knows where it could lead. I rather think, that if there would have been some sort of 'fallout', the two creators of S.P., maybe some management types and some property may, could have, had the possibility of being destroyed.

If that were only it...does the show's episode warrant these guys possible, POSSIBLE, death? To become dead for some crumb show episode?????

Really. Who will miss them?

How far are these radicals, loose cannons, willing to go? They are extremists, are they not? So how extreme are they willing to take the issue? You want to take the chance? Evidently S.P. didn't want to.

If per the slightest chance, these extremists could take the issue, blow it out of proportion and turn it all into some sort of 'Holy War', don't you think they will do it, if they could?

If the 'Holy War' was just these extremist against the two creators, and they killed them, who cares what they call it. It was a personal holy war, against the infidels who would destroy Islam, with their hatred, and these extremists, (if they numbered only 2) would die protecting Islam.

You interpetation of the term 'Holy War' is what you are questioning, the scope of it.

Oh. Okay. [sm=flash.gif]

So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. ~FDR

I'm curious: to what point are you willing to give in, in order to prevent a conflict? Where will you draw the line? As for me, I don't think that any citizen of the United States (or any nation, for that matter) should feel in any way obliged to censor themselves on the basis that their opinion might incite a religious zealot to retaliate violently. The freedom to voice your opinion (and to publicize it) is a very precious one. It gives you the power to inform others about what you think is wrong with a government or religion, what you think is unjust, what you think should be addressed. In short, it is a possible defense against oppression. To let that power be diminished is inherently dangerous.

So, yes, if using that freedom rocks the boat, so be it. The harm that may result from that is, however tragic, a lot less than the suffering you'd find in a world that has no such freedoms at all.

I would rather see that we in live in a world where we don't have to fear for our lives, just because someone makes a joke about a prophet. I don't think we get to that world by biting our tongues and hoping the fanatics will leave us alone if we just stay really quiet.

xbrand -> RE: Free Speech on "South Park"? (4/29/2010 9:03:42 PM)

Well then, why not join thompsonx and his crew...go kick Islam ass, and maybe, just maybe, they might kick yours...but you can always be proud...you died for Free Speech of South Park; or you killed a bunch for S.P. CEOs...next year South Park will be off the air, the CEOs going onto another show...and you, won't even be a memory.

So, since you are sooo very .....whatever......go for it dude. Kick Islam ass.

If you haven't noticed, S.P. backed down, so the issue is...OVER.

You make it sound as if I am the militant, as if I want a violent confrontation. Of course, that is not the case. I just wanted to watch a bloody cartoon...

xbrand -> RE: Free Speech on "South Park"? (4/30/2010 8:53:20 AM)

Okay, I understand, I watched S.P. as well on occasion, Thought nothing of it, except,... how can they get away with airing their stuff ... just some show, poking fun, yet, at times telling it like it is. The old saying.....many a truth is said in jest.....I like comedy, satire. Comedy, political satire has been around for a lot of years, in different countries, cultures, and so on. I see your point.

HOWEVER, the S.P. crew, hit a nerve with one of their 'lampoons'; it stirred up a bit of discontent among a certain group, and as usual, they recanted with their usual intolerant hate M.O. justified it with their religious dogma.

S.P. caused a problem not only with themselves as a network show, but with the industry in general. Now, the entire industry is aware of the ramifications which may result from irresponsible broadcasting, or what could be considered as irresponsible. So, in effect, now the networks will be more sensitive to that which they produce, not wanting to offend anyone, ...and....self censorship is then applied.

I am not calling you a militant, I have no intentions of insulting you, nor inferring you are some 'hothead' bent on 'defending S.P. free speech to the point in inciting violence, and wanting to 'kill the Ragtop Bastards.'

But, there are some on here who are rather hostile.....wouldn't you say.
Killing, sliting throats, etc....( you've read the posts) in the favor of Free Speech for South Park......as you say...it's a cartoon show.....and some here are willing to kill, for a cartoon show? These types enjoy 'stirring the boiling pot'; misdirecting focus, getting others agitated, and then they sit back in their comfy couch, beer in hand, and click the channels watching the mayhem, laughing all the while.

The suits did the right thing, they realized there may have resulted some tragic ramifications from their airing of the episodes, they yanked it.

So, what is so wrong in that?

There was no marching in the streets, people being rounded up, shot for saying something the powers that be didn't like, wholesale imprisonments for disagreeing with the status quo.

Do you not get this, Xbra, or are you just another useless, attention seeking, troll who pretends to be an idiot in order to get some attention?

Kill for a cartoon? What nonsense. Kill for the right of humans to express themselves? Damn right.
