I was once offered a vegetable...Though morally repulsed, I banged her anyways.

You banged a vegetable? I hope she was at least conscious so as to consent.

I took her blubbering on about the World's Fair of '54 as consent.

I suspect I'd have done the same domiguy.

Was just thinking about fresh green beans too. My granny used to cook them up with a bit of ham, let them simmer all day. Now I'm hungry.

I was just sitting here at my desk savouring a bowl of fresh strawberries, marveling over how delish they are, musing over the fact they are one of my favourite seasonal foods.

This got me thinking what are my other favourites. Foods that I only get for a short period of time, at least when they actually taste good, like they should.

Fresh berries.....just yummmmm!!
Morels......is there anything better??
Fresh peaches, picked from my orchard trees. All warm and juicy. So sexy.
Sweet corn.........if you don't live in a rural area where you can eat it the same day it is picked, you really have no clue what it tastes like.
Fresh picked tomatoes......they taste NOTHING like tomatoes from the grocer.
Fresh walleye......the Queen of a fish fry.

What are your favourites?

Agreed but you can have my morels, more for you!

I love all the fresh herbs, I eat them in everything. Yum. Basil, dill, cilantro, parlsey, thyme, chives, mmmm.

We used to go to a cottage at the Ontario Quebec border, divided by the Ottawa River, we could swim across when we got older. Going the other way into the woods was a fresh water spring that was insane how good that water tasted. Raspberries all over the place and as many mosquitos. Eat the fresh berries, try to get some o fthem into the pail and get eaten alive.

I think the smell of the barbie fired up is a fantastic smell.

Marshmallows on a stick.

Oven-dried tomatoes from my garden marinated in olive oil with chunks of garlic, cayenne peppers, rosemary from the garden, kalamata olives, salt pepper, stick in fridge a few days, make linguini add oily yummy sauce, through the roof!

Ditto the big, fresh tomatoes picked right off the vine.  Most of the never make it to the house :)   The ones that do, though, get sliced real thick and slapped in between some slices of fresh white bread slathered with butter on both sides, add a little salt....pure ambrosia.

For breakfast, add thick slices of bacon and toast the bread.  Mmmmmmmm-mmmmmmmmm.

cherry tomatos just right off the vine.
Fresh green beans, especially pole beans
honeydew melons
rhubarb, especially if baked into a pie.

On another note, I trimmed back a couple of rose plants last fall and this spring, there is nothing but blooms everywhere.

I freeze fresh blueberries when I can get them, strawberries too....the best way to do it is to rinse them really well, and then layer them on a cookie sheet and freeze them.  This way, they freeze individually, and don't stick together, so you can bag them and they don't all get clumped together.  It's great for recipies cuz you can only take what you need.

This is today's Tip from the Kitchen!

I do this when my red raspberries are ripening also. It works awesomely. I can take a few out to toss in my yougurt or take a few more to make a topping for a home made cheese cake.

My rhubarb will be ready soon and oh wow.......fresh rhubarb pie, rhubarb and strawberry preserves, rhubarb crisp.....just yummmm.

I had strawberries with my favourite plain yogurt and a few raw walnuts for breakfast.

I love making tomato sandwiches. Big fat slice of tomato, fresh moz cheese, on toasted whole grain bread, drizzle some balsamic vinegar dressing over, even better if I have some avocado to slice up and add. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMYYYYY!!!!!!
