Military service

After completing fourteen home-study Army Extension Courses, Reagan enlisted in the Army Enlisted Reserve[27] on April 29, 1937, as a private assigned to Troop B, 322nd Cavalry at Des Moines, Iowa.[28] He was appointed Second Lieutenant in the Officers Reserve Corps of the Cavalry on May 25, 1937, and on June 18 was assigned to the 323rd Cavalry.[29] His service number was 0 357 403.

Reagan was ordered to active duty for the first time on April 18, 1942. Due to his nearsightedness, he was classified for limited service only, which excluded him from serving overseas.[30] His first assignment was at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation at Fort Mason, California, as a liaison officer of the Port and Transportation Office.[31]Army Air Force (AAF), he applied for a transfer from the Cavalry to the AAF on May 15, 1942, and was assigned to AAF Public Relations and subsequently to the 1st Motion Picture Unit (officially, the "18th AAF Base Unit") in Culver City, California.[31] On January 14, 1943 he was promoted to First Lieutenant and was sent to the Provisional Task Force Show Unit of This Is The Army at Burbank, California.[31] He returned to the 1st Motion Picture Unit after completing this duty and was promoted to Captain on July 22, 1943.

In January 1944, Captain Reagan was ordered to temporary duty in New York City to participate in the opening of the sixth War Loan Drive. He was re-assigned to the 18th AAF Base Unit on November 14, 1944, where he remained until the end of World War II.[28] He was recommended for promotion to Major on February 2, 1945, but this recommendation was disapproved on July 17 of that year.[32] He returned to Fort MacArthur, California, where he was separated from active duty on December 9, 1945.[32] By the end of the war, his units had produced some 400 training films for the AAF.[28]

Just as I said. He never served. Your point in the article is what? That he like Dubya and Cheney and Limbaugh and Beck were able to get out of "service" and still had the temerity to speak as if they had? Call it what you will. In a time when the world was at war....reagan was a coward

and with that, the combat weary joe comes slogging in from the field.

As a intellectual student of history, up on National and World events - what do you think?

I think you dance well and speak out of both sides of your mouth while you have both feet firmly implanted there in.
You constantly rant about how wrong it is to reward failure but when giving examples of experienced leaders you chose to pick those who were failures and cite this as justification for their subsequent advancement to higher office.
So the question remains:
Why are you now in favor of "rewarding failure"?

btw: I never asked nor do I care if you voted for Lincoln, so why do you bring it up except to try to avoid answering the question...
Why do you now support "rewarding failure"?

Sanity -> RE: Is it because he's black ? (5/5/2010 11:30:46 AM)

He made captain, how could he do that if he never served.

mnottertail -> RE: Is it because he's black ? (5/5/2010 11:31:34 AM)

same way bush became a pilot perhaps

Dubs was a captain too I think....your point?

Louve00 -> RE: Is it because he's black ? (5/5/2010 11:33:17 AM)

So Reagan was in the military.  My hat goes off to all men who fought for my freedom, but that isn't the qualifier as a president.  Nor was it in McCain's case either.  You don't want to disqualify a class B actor because he had a military background.  I am not going to disqualify Obama, an Ivy league lawyer who served two terms as a state senator and one term as a U.S. Senator, either.

What was Obama's MOS again?

Is he trying to say that Reagan was black? I know the boy liked black jelly beans, but ---- that ain't a comparison is it?

Sanity -> RE: Is it because he's black ? (5/5/2010 11:35:39 AM)

Obama was a junior senator who didn't even serve a full term in the U.S. Senate.

No, all the Reagan lovers get a lil antsy when anyone starts to mention WWII. They try to cover the tracks but the fact is.....He dodged going overseas. C-O-W-A-R-D

Off the top of my head?

An army captain, two term governor of the largest state in the union, president of the screen actors guild, and an active participant in both Democrat and Republican politics on both the local and national levels for years.

Well, every one of your futile attempts to quote referenced only one failure in business - Lincoln.

I am not, have never been, and don't consciously reward failure. When those occasions are brought to my attention, I usually stop; however there are exceptions usually involving my contributions to charity.

The reference was pointed to experience not the result. Appreciating that you can, and should, learn from failure is not the same thing as rewarding failure. Look how many attempts there's been to teach you to be clearer in your quotes. It can be said I'm rewarding your failure by continuing to respond to you. However, I sincerely hope someday, through your ongoing learning experience, you will achieve success!

It may be that I am rewarding failure; however in your case if I gave up, you couldn't learn. I consider it sadistic charity.

This just in....Lincoln is still dead.

Oh thats right, he never even flew a national guard jet like Bush did.

Yep...and that thinking sure got McCain elected too, didn't it?  Oh wait....no Obama got elected, but Obama got elected because he was playing up his blackness...or something like that [8|]

Time for me to jump off this train.  Have fun!![8D]

mnottertail -> RE: Is it because he's black ? (5/5/2010 11:42:41 AM)

That actually remains to be seen.

Sanity -> RE: Is it because he's black ? (5/5/2010 11:46:11 AM)

He sure as hell wasn't qualified.

Hows that whole, holding his boot to the throats of his big campaign contributors (Goldman Sachs and BP) thing working out him anyway.

That helping his poll numbers at all?

The only thing that I can point to that ties this Administration and Reagan together is is that Reagan instituted the first of many attacks on the regulatory functions of the US Gov't. What we have now with Goldman,BP, and Massey Energy can be laid at his feet. And that is the low hanging fruit. His Administration was a disaster. It foresaw heaping gobs of easy credit on the middle class to forestall any reckoning since real wages were falling and standard of living was never going to match the past.
