ORIGINAL: DMFParadox Naw, dude. Dude! Naw. Don't disagree with the Wright/Sharpton evaluation; I think they're both twits. Really, my skin crawls when I hear them speak. But your logic or lack thereof makes me want to defend them. I think I hate you for that. Defend racists? Ok, sure. Tribalism and us vs. them mentalities made a lot of people very wealthy and successful throughout history. We've still all got the instincts for it, black, white or chartreuse. The basic emotional trigger is fear and jealousy, and responding to racist dialog with anger and threats (even against racism itself) tends to aggravate the situation. Therefore, one should generally show even-handedness and even kindness, though not weakness, to a person no matter how goddamned racist he is, because getting pissed is a waste of time - except in extreme situations where society as a whole needs an adjustment. tl;dr. Be nice to racists; it works better. Happy? Now hush. You'd do more to help your cause by not saying anything, really. Unless you intended to be a strawman, in which case, proceed.
