It is no great sacrifice in my opinion to stay away from electricity and fire and other dangerous things.

But...but...but... Fire play is FUN! More so when the person doing it shows you exactly how they are going to keep you safe so you can lay there and enjoy it.

Life is dangerous. I'm not into "kinky" stuff as much as I'm in to submitting myself to someone's use. But knife play and fire play are things I find very relaxing because I loosen up and let someone else control what is happening without dealing with a lot of pain. I can relax because I am VERY careful who I submit myself to so I know that I'm as safe as possible.

What I'm saying is...from a guy who builds these things, he said it could happen even when the pads aren't near or crossing the chest area. I'm gonna take his word cuz he went to school for this stuff (well...not this stuff) and he's got more experience in it than most anybody else I know.

While I think it is great to trust your friend, keep in mind. I heard from a guy who used to make single tails, that it takes hours and hours of dedicated practice before you ever consider hitting human flesh. Now he has more experience than I ever will in single tails, but that doesn't mean he's right. Now this doesn't make your friend wrong, just saying, it might be something to think about.

Now back to electrical, there are going to be risks and it's up to the couple to decide which ones are worth taking. There are things I see people do, that I think are downright crazy. This just doesn't fall there for me. Of course I also let people stick needles in me, light parts on fire and cut me open just to watch me bleed. So maybe I am not the best one to answer this type of question.

Personally, electrical play bores me silly. But I am NOT going to go saying that it's any MORE dangerous that boatloads of the stuff we do in our daily lives, let alone in what we call play. If you don't like it, don't do it.

Use some alcohol first, it can liven up the fun[:)]

slavekal -> RE: Potentially dangerous activities (5/7/2010 1:58:23 PM)

Whenever I see bungee jumping or people hiking in bear country, or other risky stuff, I always say the same thing..."There is just no explaining the behavior of white people."

thishereboi -> RE: Potentially dangerous activities (5/7/2010 2:01:39 PM)

Bungee jumping? Sorry, even this boi has limits[8D]

While I am willing to do many things for a Mistress that may not be pleasurable in themselves, there are some things I would have to refuse to do.  Playing with electricity is one of those.  It just seems foolish and unnecessarily dangerous.  The risk/reward ratio appears way unbalanced.  And if things go very wrong, someone could end up dead while the other party could go to prison.  Am I the only one who feels this way?

With any activity, kinky or not, there are always consequences and there is always some risk of harm and/or death. Just sitting at your computer reading a message board reply could result in death if an airplane engine or meteroite happens to land on you (silly example, but true). Everyone has a different level of risk tolerance and a different sense of reward. There are people out there who share your risk/reward with regard to electrical play and those who don't. The difficult part is accepting that other people have a different sense of risk/reward and then respecting their sense of risk/reward in the same way that you would want them to respect yours.

rideemwet -> RE: Potentially dangerous activities (5/7/2010 2:16:43 PM)

Hmm, electricity and fire are both just too uncomfortable for me to think about engaging in.  And certainly I'm not opposed to some risk.  I've owned motorcycles and single engine airplanes (and hand-prop started them too), trained horses and even crossed the street in busy traffic.

I helped with an autopsy on someone who burned to death when a tractor rolled over on top of him.  You could see his thigh bones, which was a little gruesome.  Also had access to his medical charts.  He lived three days in the hospital and was conscious and coherent for at least one day. That was horrific.  Now, I realize that
1) farm equipment is dangerous, and I have and use plenty of it, from push mower's to full size backhoes.
2) Fireplay can be done safely.
3) I have other things to do to a sub that I'm more interested in exploring and someday may learn fireplay, but I'll want more than just an online tutorial ;)

I not only have a degree in electrical engineering, I teach it at a college level.  I know it can do bad things, and in wildly unpredictable ways.  Yes, we're playing with static electricity, so is lightning.  Yes, a current path of very insignficant amount (less than will trip a GFCI breaker!) will stop your heart.  Guess what?  There is no reliable way to predict the current path from A to B through your body, so what works 99 times out of 100 may kill you on the hundreth try.  Using a TENS unit only "below the waist" significantly decreases the chance of a current path through your heart.  It doesn't eliminate it.

There are a lot of things that are dangerous and we all have the right to choose what we tolerate and what makes us comfortable.  I choose not to engage in either with any sub I play with because I do not feel like I can control those to my own level of satisfaction.  My concern beyond my own play is that in *way* to many dungeon scenes I've seen subs that assume that if someone owns a TENS unit or violet wand, they know all the dangers of using them.  In at least 50% of the cases I'm sure its not.    *Informed* Consent?

bondmaid123 -> RE: Potentially dangerous activities (5/7/2010 2:18:35 PM)

I'm in the "Oh hell no" category when it comes to electricl play, myself. They made us watch too many scary movies in boot camp and avionics school and I am not interested in dying just so I can be edgy, thanks. ;)

slavekal -> RE: Potentially dangerous activities (5/7/2010 2:51:08 PM)

Once again, using tools or appliances properly is not the same as hooking electricity to oneself for sexual thrills.  Yes, I know my computer uses electricity.  That is why I would never use it while in the bath.  If it electrocutes me while I am using it properly, then the manufacturer is liable.  It won't be because I was using it in an improper manner.
Besides electricity and fire, what other potentially dangerous things do we do?

EclipseAbove -> RE: Potentially dangerous activities (5/7/2010 3:18:12 PM)

The list is virtually endless, since everything is potentially dangerous. But here are some of the more common ones:

Knife play, blood play, fluids play (I'll lump anything that could result in an exchange of bodily fluids in with this), breath play, suspension, heavy beatings/whippings/spankings, single tails...

Then there are the ones that people are less likely to recognize the risks: bondage, impact play of any kind, blindfolding, use of gags, tickling, orgasm...

Everything I listed is potentially dangerous even in common circumstances. Of course the risks with any of them (electricity and fire included) can be reduced to what some people would consider acceptable levels.

If I were a bottom/sub/slave, I would refuse to stay in a relationship with someone who asked me to do thing that could harm me.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Potentially dangerous activities (5/7/2010 5:06:34 PM)

I had a huge phobia of electricity.  I had a play partner who wanted to play with me that way & I let him.  I no longer have the phobia.  I also found out that it makes me wet. [:)]  Same was true of biting.  I was very scared of being bitten.  He would bite me hard enough to leave bruises that lasted over a week.  I would watch him do it.  It cured my fear of being bitten.  His Evilness does many things to me that scare the living crap outta me before & during.  I love them.  But that's just me.  I also rode a motorcycle & was run over by a car, nearly died & got back on the bike after the fractures healed.  I've done many many risky things in my life.  But I only take calculated risks.  I research the risks & decide if the thrill is worth it.  I've never gone bungee jumping & have no desire to.  But I have walked 40 feet on hot coals.

I'm in the group who says if you don't want to have it done to you, then don't allow it.  No big deal.

Fire play is off my list

LadyPact -> RE: Potentially dangerous activities (5/7/2010 6:15:43 PM)

On another thread that is on the front page of this board right now, My contribution included a quick blurb about how I see risk awareness and how I believe that every bottom should be educated in the potential of any activity that a top may want to engage with them.  You have to weigh that information and balance it in your decision whether to consent or not.

There are a number of forms of play that I enjoy engaging in that many people wouldn't call safe.  Violet wands have already been covered here and fire has been mentioned.  The running gag that I tend to tell when discussing these  are that those types of play would make bad submissives.  They don't obey and they don't do exactly what you tell them to do.  Anybody wanting to try these things with Me and expect Me to tell them that they are 100% guaranteed that they are risk free is just plain going to have to try them with somebody else.  The same goes for knife play, face slapping, resistance play, and a bunch of other things that I could add to the list.

There is an element of danger in many of the activities that we do.  If you've found an area that you are not willing to engage in due to that physical danger, you'll get no argument from Me.  So long as you understand that some of us are aware of those dangers and chose to have fun doing them.

So if he/she asked you to drive him/her to the mall, you would leave?[;)] Just sayin.....that COULD harm you. Driving toward downtown LR is the scariest damn thing I do all week and very potentially the most life-threatening. ANYTHING CAN harm you..............luci

sublizzie -> RE: Potentially dangerous activities (5/7/2010 8:16:42 PM)

Thankfully someone else was driving when I went to downtown LR but that person hates driving in the TC downtowns and I do that all the time. What is nerve-wracking in one person may not feel so dangerous to another.
