In case everyone isn't paying attention, Arizona is the wild wild west. Ranchers are being killed on US soil by illegals coming accross the border. She is doing what needs to be done since the feds refuse to do so.

And another moronic con bites the dust.

Thank you for posting the whole thing...maybe there is something in the water in arizona.
Now I am old and things may have changed since I was in school.
I have never heard of a school that had classes restricted to just black, white, brown etc. Does anyone know for sure that any of the classes under discussion are actually restricted?
If the class is taught truthfully I think it would be difficult for some to not resent the way that they have been treated historically.
I see this as just another bullshit law designed to keep the status quo.

Of course you were going to cite some valid reference to support your alligations....
may we see them?

Given the anger sparked by Arizona's immigration bill nationwide – including protests and calls to boycott Arizona – the campaign promises of Colorado gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis could be seen as a bit of a surprise.

He has vowed to follow Arizona's lead and pass a tough new anti-illegal immigration law. “We are stopping the retreat. No more retreat,” he said in a local radio interview. “Federal government, if you are not going to do it, we are going to do it.”

Mr. McInnis's comments are but one example of how the Arizona firestorm has hardly scared off politicians in other states around the country. In some cases, it might actually be encouraging them.

..........

Oklahoma is looking at passing tougher penalties for illegal immigrants caught with firearms. South Carolina might make it illegal to hire workers on the side of the road. In addition, state immigration legislation is also being considered in Idaho, Utah, Missouri, Texas, North Carolina, Maryland, Minnesota, and Colorado.

In many cases, the potential legislation is merely part of the perpetual national debate about immigration, which has taken form in more than 200 state-level immigration bills being signed into law each year from 2007 to 2009, notes Catherine Wilson, a political scientist at Villanova University in Philadelphia.

...........

Arizona law: A tipping point for states? That would not be unprecedented. In 2004, Arizona approved Prop. 200, which barred illegal immigrants from receiving most nonessential state benefits and services. Many other states followed.

Anti-illegal immigration advocates argue that the new Arizona immigration law represented a tipping point that other states are now following.

“What we are witnessing around the country is that the public’s patience is wearing out with the federal government’s failure to enforce immigration laws and protect the interests of American workers and taxpayers,” says Ira Mehlman, spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

“Local officials – who tend to be more in-tune with the concerns of their constituents – are responding and doing what they can to address a serious problem for their states and communities,” he says.

But the movement among statehouses to enact immigration-related legislation began to take shape well before the Arizona law, says Professor Wilson.

She pinpoints 2006, and notes that the 200 immigration-related bills passed between 2007 and 2009 included 40 states and ranged in topic from law enforcement and employer verification to identification and licenses.

New levels of frustrationThe public’s renewed focus on immigration issues, together with recent events like the high-profile killing of an Arizona rancher, are expected to increase the tide of legislation. Three national polls have shown wide support for Arizona's SB 1070 in particular and crackdowns on undocumented immigrants in general.

“We should expect this trend of state-level activity to accelerate this year in the absence of federal legislation on immigration," Wilson says.

President Obama’s tacit acknowledgment that immigration reform is not feasible in the short term and his recent quips at a White House correspondents' dinner – where he mocked the Arizona law – have fueled frustration, says Jack Pitney, a political scientist at Claremont McKenna College.

Immigration activists have posted a video to YouTube that juxtaposes his comical remarks with statistics on soaring drug smuggling and narcotics prosecutions. The video includes the punch line: “President Obama, broken borders are not a laughing matter. Do your job and secure the border.” (Now we know where that video came from)

“President Obama's mockery of the Arizona law has handed ammunition to its proponents,” says Professor Pitney, pointing out that the ad is paid for by Arizona’s Republican governor, Jan Brewer.

My initial response to what is happening in Arizona with immigration was it was a way to force the governments hand to do something... anything... besides the status quo of doing nothing.

In one of the first slams i have given Obama, his comments and lack of attention given to this issue is inspiring even more agressive measures by that state. I forsee many more to come. 200 state laws since 2006 is nothing to push aside or joke about. People are tired of being ignored. Our politicians are being bought by a group advocating the rights of illegal immigrants in this country.

Isnt it time to stop dicking around and make a stand? If the federal level isnt going too, who is left to do so but the states?

I do NOT advocate the law banning racial studies. I have yet to see one closed to other ethnic groups that also wished to study, say, African-American history. But all eyes are now drawn to Arizona, which is where it needs to be since the federal level seems to have blinders on.

Check out 'azcentral.com'....The ranchers name is Richard Krentz. Murdered on his ranch by a mexican drug cartel..

Why did you use the plural then if not to deceive?  All neo-cons suck off cops in the MSP Airport bathroom, by that logic.

BoiJen -> RE: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer does it again. (5/12/2010 9:55:15 AM)

I do not agree with the manner in which Arizona is addressing the illegal immigration issue. However, Obama is beginning to piss me off with his inability to make anything happen for the benefit of this country. The issue of illegal immigration has been mounting. I hate to break the news to a lot of people, but it ain't just white people pissed that illegals are taking work and in some shape or form mooching off the benefit of other people paying taxes in this country.

Here's two articles comparing Mexican immigration law to Arizona's new law.

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.6090/pub_detail.asp

http://www.sbsun.com/columnists/ci_3767570

As it turns out, Mexico is often harsher on illegal immigrants than the new Arizona law even allows local law enforcement to be.

This is a response to post #25.

Here's the problem.

She's not paying for it. No one is. Where do the funds for the locals to take over immigration duties arise?

THIS is among the many reasons conservative solutions consistently don't work--ill conceived with no regard for long term consequences, which is why despite the rhetoric, they consistently INCREASE deficits.

Stuff costs money. And when attitude is codified into law, another unfunded mandate joins the pack.

I never stated i agreed with it either. However, i do understand the mounting tension and aggrevation. Something has to be done. If the federal level isnt going to do it... and it doesnt look like it will... then its the states who have too.

BoiJen -> RE: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer does it again. (5/12/2010 10:03:52 AM)

I think I forgot to preface my post with Tazzygirl, I agree with you some of this but I can see the point of the education measure.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

So when you posted this you were lying?
Above you say mr. krentz was murdered by a mexican drug cartel.
Below you say ranchers (plural) was murdered by illegals.
It would appear that your credibility is suspect.

This one is too easy. Why even comment.......I guess Arizonans have forgotten that they are indebted to the rest of the country for travel to their state for major portions of their combined incomes. BCS, Baseball Allstar Game, NFL Games....are just a few that will be casualties. I can't imagine these will last long.

For every dollar in federal taxes, Arizona receives $1.19

33 states get more Fed tax $ than they pay in.
