"Mexican-Americans are oppressed by white people?"
Most Mexican-Americans *are* white people! Last time I checked, "Hispanic" and "Latino" were "ethnic groups" not "races."

It is this politically correct adroitness allows you to avoid the title of racists but clearly your post show biggotry of the first magnitude.

Thompson, do you talk in your sleep?

Oppressed by white people ? Hardly. White people are giving an education and free health care to people who are here illegally. They are being oppressed by their own government, not us.

If a person pays their taxes then they should be entitled to the services those taxes support don't you think?

Can she really be this dense, or is she pushing buttons for a reason?

The reason is she is up for re-election and has been a target of the teabaggers for not being conservative enough.

In case everyone isn't paying attention, Arizona is the wild wild west. Ranchers are being killed on US soil by illegals coming accross the border. She is doing what needs to be done since the feds refuse to do so.

One rancher, not ranchers.

You are also so insane, that you believe the law requiring law enforcement to enquire about their legal status, then arrest them will result in racial profiling, and people being stopped randomly to be asked their status.

Use your common sense if you have any left. The cops aren't going to be stopping people randomly. However, if they stop you or come into contact with you during the course of their duties, then obviously they have a taken an oath to uphold the law and must investigate your legal status, and uphold both federal and state law.

By the way, federal law is more severe than their state law, so how can that be unconstitutional? It is and always has been a $5,000 fine and deportation for crossing the border illegally.

Yes they will and are required to do so by the new law.

The Arizona law bears no resemblance to any federal law and if you believe it does then I challenge you to post that law.

For once take some time to read what you are talking about instead of regurgitating bullshit you hear from Limbaugh and the other conservative talking heads.

It's possible to be oppressed by more than one government.

Also not all Mexicans are here illegally. In fact a lot of people of Mexican descent were born in the US.

That being said I don't think this is oppressive to any ethnic group:

The measure signed Tuesday prohibits classes that advocate ethnic solidarity, that are designed primarily for students of a particular race or that promote resentment toward a certain ethnic group.

tazzygirl -> RE: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer does it again. (5/13/2010 4:03:55 AM)

Whats wrong with ethnic solidarity?

How can you have a native american study class and not have it tailored towards native americans?

Ever read up on the Trail of Tears? Talk about fostering resentment... and rightly so.

Lets talk about the holocaust... how can a jewish person not feel resentment?

The african slave trade... again... how do you teach that subject and tailor it towards the absence of resentment?

I see this law as a way to prevent any class of race studies from being taught. Its just not possibly to pass one of those criterias, let alone all three.

Nothing, but I don't feel it's something that should be taught in public schools.

I'm not sure if this is splitting hairs, but the article says it forbids classes that advocate ethnic solidarity, not classes that indirectly foster it.

In other words, teaching the facts is different from teaching your opinion about them.

i like how this unelected governor, the looney toon sheriff Joe Arpaio and both senators are not from AZ. I don't really care about immigration or people moving here, unless they come and start sh#t. who ever heard of states boycotting other states before this Nazi regime took over

And all that is up to who is interpreting what is happening within the classroom. Im sorry, Elisabella. Often i agree with your posts, but on this one I cannot. It leaves the door open for too much abuse. The article lists three.. not one... but three instances of the class being illegal. Any of the three can be used. And I can see how any of the three will be used by those who wish to stifle yet another part of the "not quite right" white history.

Fair enough. And you're right that "advocate" and "promote" can be interpreted in various ways, but I still don't see it as inherently oppressive.

Forbidding the exclusion of students from classes based on race on the other hand, is pretty direct.

Pushing who's buttons? The 65% of the voters in AZ who support her?

in order to lick the arses of that segment of the population that she wants to vote for her.

Right! Because as an elected official she should be kissing up the 30% of Arizonians who would not vote for in anyway shape or form. They matter more! F- the folks who put her in office!

mnottertail -> RE: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer does it again. (5/13/2010 5:22:13 AM)

Well, thats the problem with being a confederation of states, its like being in a family, and you gotta put up with the imbicilic second cousins.....but not alot.

Sanity -> RE: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer does it again. (5/13/2010 6:02:34 AM)

Why do the folks who want to smash the border even come here if all they care about is making the USA just like their third world homes.

They could just stay in the places they're coming from and have that.

mnottertail -> RE: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer does it again. (5/13/2010 6:05:04 AM)

They could, but they don't, must be something here we ain't seeing.
