Well I am not sure about the rest of the country, but I think the folk in California are scared to death that someone is going to come up with a way to cut back on illegal immigration. They have thousands of workers there, paying into the tax system with out getting anything back because they are illegal. Add that to the fact that these illegals are working below minimum wage in substandard conditions and California has quite a system going on there. It's like they have their own "little China" right in their backyard. So it may look like they are trying to help the poor illegal immigrant, when in reality, they are letting them be taken advantage of for the good of the states economy. They pay into the tax system and get nothing back? Bullshit. Note: The following numbers are from 2006. The children of illegal aliens are educated at taxpayer expense ($4 billion/ year for those born outside the US, another $3+ billion for those born here to illegal immigrant parents), they get healthcare (Medi-cal and emergency services run 1.2 billion per year or so), the children of illegal immigrants can qualify for welfare ($500 million per year), and food stamps, $59 million is spent on prenatal care, $108 million for delivery, $47 million for non emergency medical care, long term nursing home care, and abortions. The children of illegals can also, I believe, get in state tuition for universities here no matter their immigration status. Now, not a 'benefit' per say, but another expense- $859 million per year for illegal aliens in our prisons. Total? Nearly $10 billion per year. Do many illegal aliens pay taxes? Yup, they do, because they are using fake social security numbers to secure employment. Do they get nothing back? If you call $10 billion nothing, I guess so. http://articles.latimes.com/2009/feb/02/local/me-cap2 Edited to remove a wayward "l". Your point is not very clear. You seem to be saying that these people have paid thier taxes for the services that they use but that they do not get all of the services that they pay for and you are upset that they are getting any of the services that they paid for. My family took hostile fire to protest "taxation with representation" and you want to wipe your ass on the constitution that their efforts produced. Somehow I am not at all comfortable with that position.
