I figure McCain would bring the brain and brawn and West would bring the heart and brain to the operation.   When I think of a humane person, and how we need more of that in the world, I think of what I've always read in West's books.  M

I tend to agree that West is "humane" and a decent person, but one reason I would not want him in the White House (or congress or senate lol) is his support of "slave reparations". Wrong, and devisive.

M, I love the Giovanni quote, by the way. Be well.

Well since nobody can become President unless they are really wealthy and well connected with Corporate America I think it is time for a Native American. I say Jay Silverheels.(say is,nt he Canadian?) Oh what the heck. He wrode all over Texas with The Lone Stranger(sorry I mean ranger or was that danger?) We could go one better and change the constitution to permit Austrian immigrants to become the President, after all they can become the Governor of California. Who better than the Terminator to declare war on 5th rate  nations and steal their natural resouces and continue to abduct foreign nationals and transport them on extraordinary rendition flights to be tortured by agents of governments that the USA is suppossed to be oppossed to.

Of course, who you like and who the actual candidates are likely to be are entirely different matters.

It's probably easier to start with trying to figure who won't get the nominations.

On the Dem side:
  1. Joe Biden
  2. John Kerry [Loser Redux]
  3. Edwards
  4. Gore [Loser II]

On the Repub side:
  1. Dick Cheney [cause he says he won't]
  2. Jeb Bush [cause he says he won't]
  3. Arnold [cause he can't]
  4. Frist

My pick of those with some chance of success are:
  1. Hillary
  2. Feingold
  3. Warner
  4. Bayh

and then,
  1. Pawlenty
  2. McCain
  3. Guiliani
  4. Romney
  5. other currently unknown GOP governor

4 candidates suffer from being Senators.  Senators typically fare poorly in recent generations.  Too much documented history of mealy-mouthed weasely pronouncements [ i.e. I was for it before I was against it]

On the other hand, you have to appeal to your base to win, and at this moment in time, the Dems base is the most radicalized.  This makes nominating a candidate with an actual chance to win difficult.

Thanks! (I think?) But in my history of political involvement I am zero for one. I lost a school board election where telling the truth and putting in place pragmatic solutions wasn't what the majority wanted to hear. Spending money now supporting my "You're Out!" candidates. Realizing that selfishness and personal agenda is a HUGE barrier to overcome the status quo. Mostly it's a comment like this; "yes, the situation sucks and they should all be removed, but MY congressman/senator/councilman/mayor; (pick one) really represents my views on abortion/health care/social security/etc. (pick as many as appropriate). The prevailing attitude is the problem is caused by the "other" candidate or the "other" party. If I thought it would make a difference I'd publish the words of people on both sides of the aisle and challenge you to tell which party said what. It would prove the theorem -- there is NO difference.

Using my current pet project, illegal aliens, is a perfect example. Now the debate is that it is "impossible" to deport the estimated 12 Million illegals. BULLSHIT! How about this simple, pragmatic solution - show up to Tyson foods unannounced; fine Tyson $10k for every illegal working PLUS cost of deportation. Do the same throughout the California corporate farms. The cost of the deportation is directly assigned to the root cause of the problem, the corporations who hired them. Oh yeah, and by the way, that penalty is only for the first offense. The second time, the fine is doubled, the employer still bears the cost of deportation and the offerers of the company serve a MANDATORY 6 months prison sentence. The penalty for the illegal alien is simply to be returned to his/her country of origin. Whether that's a harsh penalty or not, is not the concern of the US or it's tax paying citizens.

Apply this policy throughout the US and you won't need a fence on the border. Mexico may want to build one to keep their citizens from returning, but again - it's not a problem for the US. The bottom line for most of us would be an estimated $60 - $100 annual increase in the cost of produce, and it may cost more in CA for lawn care, child care, roofing, room additions. But the work being conducted will be done by US citizens. Maybe the US poor really does want these jobs. Maybe you'd start to see kids knocking on your door offering to cut your lawn.

Pragmatic solution, but it makes too much sense for it to ever see the light of day.

But seriously....based upon prior debate and dialog, I'd want Utopian ranger, Scooter Trash, or L&M, as a running mate, off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting. The person would just need to bring strong convictions and intelligence to the table and challenge my opinions with facts and research on the opposing side. Agreeing in concept and the "mission statement" but not always agreeing with me or my specific "solutions". Just no liars or frauds or personal agendas. Which makes the entire exercise problematic. It's impossible to gather enough money to run for any meaningful political office without creating personal agenda. Once Tyson shows up with their $30 Million and you take it, they become your personal agenda. It doesn't just work for the oil industry and President Bush; track back every senator to the major industry in their home state and you'll find the same exact agenda setting campaign money source.

The prevailing laissez-faire attitude just proves that the situation isn't as bad as it needs to be for people to mobilize. Looking at a national 4% unemployment rate, compared to Europe and France in particular where 23% are unemployed and 60% of those for those under 25. Utopian society? Working 'socialism'? Hardly - the governments are collapsing because they can't support the entitlement programs. The US now has more homeowners than ever before. People have cars and, for the time being, can afford the gas to drive them. More food is thrown away daily in the US then some countries have for their populations to eat. We are FAT! It has to get MUCH worse for anyone to care. When that happens it may be too late for any solution, pragmatic or not.

DAMN! Ranting again.... Sorry!

This plan might work in California, but Texas doesn't have anyone willing to move to the RGV to pick produce and get bitten by brown recluse spiders, for $4.00 an hour. [;)]

without a doubt Judge Judy, she won't take any crap off anyone. I like when she says "Do you see stupid written across my forehead? No you don't, now sit down and shut up!"

I think Judge Judy would be a damn good Domme if she isn't already [:D]

Chuck Norris, or Brian Boitano, because well, they both have a strong ass kicking background (or at least Boitano has a song about it).

In all seriousness, I'd give up some internal organs to see a Powell presidancy.  He's much more in line with my line of thinking, and isn't nearly as much of a meathead as most of the other folks who are right of center.

I'll take McCain as a consolation prize though.   I do know I'll have issues if Hillary is elected (same problem I had with Bush when he was first elected.  I despise the idea of the office of President becomeing a family thing, by marriage or no)

Twice -> RE: Who would you vote for to be the next President... (4/12/2006 4:16:48 PM)

I'd totally make an awesome President.  Too bad I'm only 20.  Just give me a few years, though....

BlkTallFullfig -> RE: Who would you vote for to be the next President... (4/12/2006 4:55:45 PM)

We may need to take this to private email, because I don't want to piss off anyone who doesn't know me with my response to you here.

What I can say here is, I still think McCain because he has the political experience, and war experience, so he'd know when it's time to go to one, and when to get the phuck out, and West would add heart/soul and a conscience to a nation that desperately needs to learn more about justice, benevolence, the value or treating each other with due respect/in a dignified manner, and indeed treating others as you'd have them treat you..
P.S.  I too am against ILLEGAL immigration, and think it is overwhelming the system, though haven't a clear fix for it..     M
Thanks for the compliment. [;)]

We both vote for who we see as the least of the avalible evils. Since we both hold that to be that successful in politics, they are all corrupt and power hungry. The trick is to figure out for yourself which is the lease corrupt and most honestly careing for who they are representing.

If you prefer sending a private email, that's fine, but as we began the discussion in public, I have no problem with it continuing as such *smiles*.... just go easy on me, I'm a dim bulb, easily confused, and as ignorant as the day is long lol.

And you are quite welcome[:D]

Absolutely. Go for the matador not the red cape. Your example would stop nearly all illegal immigration immediately.

As I said before though....a great part of this problem has to do with soft money and other types of campaign contributions. These ball-less senators rely heavily on big contributions to get elected and reelected. If the size of the contribution was limited to five thousand dollars per contributor, it would change the whole paradigm and cause these politicians to work harder and from a more grass roots level. We've allowed influence-pedaling to go on far too long if you ask me.

Isn't Tyson still on probation for hiring illegals? I know when I worked for them a few years ago they were. Personally, Mercnbeth, I agree with you. In the area I live in there are several companies in which someone needs to make a surprise visit so that the jobs can be opened up for US citizens. But this is all just my opinion and one more pebble thrown in the pond.

Add me to the list of those taking the question seriously and answering "Ron Paul"!
And now he is actually running!
