So when you strip away most of the adverbs & adjectives from your OP and switch the proper nouns to vague pronouns, basically what it all comes down to is this -

You're upset because someone said something you didn't want to hear.
You're upset because someone did something you didn't want to happen.

Seems to me you have 3 choices
#1 Fly another airline
#2 Start your own airline
#3 Play happy music in your head until the announcement is over.

For me personally, out of everything I might hear in any given day, I'd think it was a damn fine day if the worse thing I heard all day was "thank you for defending our country".

edited to add - Thought I hit fast reply - am directing this to the OP - oops

*grins* I kinda figured that out.

I think mikey is upset that the service men and women were a) allowed to board ahead of everyone else and b) that they have been thanked for their service even though they are not elsewhere fighting a war. Which is bizarro because if they were they wouldn't be on that plane would they?

Then again, if not for those servicepeople he wouldn't be able to rant about such silly things so really he should be thanking them.

First in last out, I often think that at Cannon Street or Charing Cross or Waterloo East that I'll wait for all the sardines to get on board first and then I will be first out the door at London Bridge, wooohoo as they say.

Those people boarding first are Muppets, they'll have to wait for all the people that need help moving.

Could you clarify this point, I'm not sure I understand it, my brain not yet functional and all.

Greetings Panda....

So you're defending the aggression of Japan and Hitler in World War II? Because what you're advocating is exactly what they did in attacking China, Pearl Harbor, Poland, France, and the Soviet Union. You really approve of that sort of thing, do you?

Do I defend the concept of deterrence even if done against me and mine? Yes. You see, it is simple. If I support an idea I support it even if I don't like how it turns out or it is used against me. Can you say the same or do you believe in situational ethics? Also, as I pointed out, Afghanistan was a reactionary situation. We went after the people who went after us. In Iraq were chartered by the UN in the first Gulf War to take out an aggressor nation, also a reactionary situation. There is less of a claim of that for the second Gulf War but Hussein made the mistake of trying to convince the world that he was cheating on WMD's. At that point, it was punishment for violating the conditions under which he was allowed to remain in power. That is not an unreasonable thing to do in my opinion.

But, back to your original question. If someone has an honest and valid belief that they are about to be attacked, even if not true, then yes, I will defend their actions. Once again, my ethics work that way. I don't go back and say someone was wrong after the fact because of things they did not and could not know before the fact. Do you? Actually, I know you do from your posts.

Oh yeah....by the way. Since this was all about oil, where is the oil? Surely we now have a glut of it coming from Iraq and Afghanistan since we took them over. Tanker after tanker sending free oil to the US, right? Where are they? Where is the oil?

Can you find one single person who ever said that the reason the US was invading Iraq was to steal their oil? Literally steal the oil and ship it home to the US? Anyone?

Anyone at all?

No? Didn't think so. So then why are you are trying to disprove an argument that nobody ever made? What is the point of making strawman arguments?

Actually, I thought Mikey had said that when I wrote it. I went back and checked. I couldn't find it. However, are you going to tell me you have never heard that claim? Never seen the ads or billboards? Never said it yourself? Can you really do all that truthfully? Maybe the last point. But it is the usual claim that gets made about US involvement in the Middle East. Do you deny that?

Reason will never cut through the hate some people have about some things. It can be about people, races, gender, religions, political beliefs, moral and ethical beliefs or just about anything. Some people just build up a level of hate that will not be changed by reality or truth. I don't write off people like you or Mikey because you make such wonderful object lessons and teaching tools. Therefore I thank you for being what you are. You are very good at helping other people understand what not to be.

Be well....

Malkinius

I am not sure why you added this but thank you for doing so. 19.5 out of 25 rounds up to his four out of five rating on a friendliness rating in the article. "4/5 means a friendly reaction with a smile." I guess that does make it the "Friendly Skies of United". <grins>

Be well....

You could be right. In that case I hope no one tells him how many times they get bumped up to first class free of charge or how many free drinks they get when they walk into a bar in uniform. I'd really hate to see him cry.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you've pretty much taken care of that, now we just have to hope he doesn't see your post.....ALTHOUGH I'd kinda like to see him cry or watch his head explode. I'm bored.

It's always more difficult to argue against people who create their own facts, and their own positions against which to argue. And especially frustrating when they use those fictitious facts and positions to insult the person against whom they are arguing. If what you say is true - that my posting history shows me to be someone who would "go back and say someone was wrong after the fact because of things they did not and could not know before the fact" - then it should be relatively simple for you to substantiate this characterization with a few examples. Unless of course you'd prefer to simply apologize now, for your unnecessary and inaccurate personalization of this debate.

Yes. I do. I absolutely do. You assert that "the usual claim" is that the reason the United States invaded Iraq was to literally steal their oil, and ship the free oil home to the US. I say that's bullshit, and I call on you again to substantiate your assertion. Or admit you spoke rashly - whichever you think would reflect better on you.

Thank you. I hope you're right. Perhaps, with a little bit of luck, I will have helped you, too, understand what it would take for you to be a better man.
