This showed up in a thread on another site just a while ago. [sm=alarm.gif]

Phelps and family of Westboro Baptist Church fame are going to picket Ronnie James Dio's funeral in Los Angeles.

Boy, isn't ol' Fred Phelps and his "church" members going to be surprised when their time comes to answer for their own sins!!

Just when I thought I'd seen it all. First of all the guy was about 70ish or so, it doesn't sound like he was struck down in the prime of life by some angry God.

Second of all, if ANYONE can get word to the family, do so and have them make it an open funeral, let all the fans show up. Talk about some partyers in their forties and fifties alot of whom know how to fight, having been in the joint, riding Harleys and all this. Let Westbobo know the fear that the "devil" can put into them. Let them contemplate their acttions from a hospital bed. Let the fans beat the living shit out of them and then get on their bad motor scooters and ride - oops that's Montrose but so what ?

Likewise with military funerals, why not some of the soldiers just go off and put these people in a pool of fucking blood. Don't gimme this pacifist shit, you can wind up in a pool of blood in a bar for flirting with the wrong Woman. And what of snipers ? Just shoot one of them each time they start this bullshit and run, run fast. I'm sure the cops will be ever so diligent in tracking down the perp in those instances. This would amount to a grass roots smokescreen. Witnesses would give all kinds of accounts, everything from spaceships to who knows what.

But alas, very few people really know how to get things done.

they harrass people.   which is not very humble.

We often get criticised here for the way our laws work in such situations - the general charge being that free speech is restricted. Actually what is restricted is exactly the sort of thing that these nutjobs get up to.

If you had just a few of the provisions here in the Public Order Act 1986 and Protection from Harassment Act 1997, Phelps and his congregation would all be spending a night in the cells the first time they turned up to do their thing and thereafter would be facing higher and higher fines and longer and longer prison terms. Lawyered up or not, they should have a hard time defending the charges given the prevalence of adequate evidence and the public interest in seeing them dealt with.

Gods...they just want to be on TV. Get a basket of rotten tomatoes and start throwing them when the group starts doing their chants.

My choice is a lot deadilier...and involves gasoline and a match...

Sorry...I slipped into a psychiatic moment...

This might be the one where they get their asses stomped.

Some years ago my Pastor said in reference to when we get to heaven: You will be very surprised to see who is there, more importantly is who is NOT there. This was in reference to people who claim to be "pure" Christians and spend their lives judging others. I feel pretty sure, Phelps and his gang will not be behind the pearly gates.

This man and his followers never cease to amaze me at how much pain they are eager to inflict on people. One of the few people who make me question how far the extent of " Free Speech " should apply.

I do believe you're right, Rich. With any luck it'll be on National tv.

youngsubgeoff -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church to protest Ronnie James Dio's funeral (5/22/2010 6:47:10 AM)

I say they have a right to free speech, but I also have the right to curb stomp them if I dont like what they say. I hope somebody takes these assholes out. Ronnie was one of the nicest guys I have ever met, smart as hell too. He deserves alot better than these pricks fucking up his funeral.

ReginaMirus -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church to protest Ronnie James Dio's funeral (5/22/2010 6:48:18 AM)

This is how they make their living.

They are all lawyers. They make a big splash like this, elicit an angry, emotional (JUSTIFIABLE) response from people, then sue them for the assault. And its all in the name of Christianity. It's the most despicable organized group known to man, and they exploit the system and people's emotions to the nth degree, all in the name of "freedom of religion" and right to protest.

They are counting on the assault, because that's how they make their money.

DarkSteven -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church to protest Ronnie James Dio's funeral (5/22/2010 7:18:56 AM)

Yeah.  When they "played" Colorado, they had signs saying "Jews Killed Jesus" and "Your Rabbi is a Whore".  Just assholes.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church to protest Ronnie James Dio's funeral (5/22/2010 7:44:11 AM)

DS:

Phelps must have missed this part of the Bible:

John 4:22:
You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.

or this part:

John 1:10-11: His own recieved him not, the world knew him not. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

I never will understand the anti Jew sentiment some Christians have. The Bible is fairly clear on Judiasm being the foundation for Christianity, not tearing it down. Jews, Gentiles, Herod and Pilot all rejected Jesus. Those " Christains " who spew the anti Jewish garbage  have clearly rejected the New Testament and God's word, IMO.

I am all for free speech, but these people are despicable in their words and actions.  Disgusting.

Irishknight -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church to protest Ronnie James Dio's funeral (5/22/2010 10:09:48 AM)

Until laws are passed to deal with this type of harrassment, they will keep doing it.

I think Fire Departments should be able to turn the hoses on these guys with no consequences. It could be done in the interest of "public safety" or to "prevent a riot."

Musicmystery -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church to protest Ronnie James Dio's funeral (5/22/2010 10:46:19 AM)

For this one, instead of sending the Patriot Riders, we should send Hell's Angels.

that i would pay to see.....it is no wonder so many think all religion is harmful.  only the brainless idiots ever seem to get their stories told...

eventually, the folks at that church are going to piss off the wrong folks and it will end badly.  i do not forsee any christians coming to their defense....

bless their hearts

LadyEllen -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church to protest Ronnie James Dio's funeral (5/22/2010 10:58:40 AM)

I would propose something like s.4a of our Public Order Act 1986 (causing intentional harassment, alarm or distress).

This allows for free speech to continue and does not indicate any criminal liability by way of someone taking offence (which is what s.5 allows for here) but rather requires that the accused has intentionally caused harassment, alarm or distress, by his conduct or words (including in writing).

I think this also matches quite neatly the American notion of free speech that one may say anything one wishes but one may not unnecessarily shout fire in a crowded theatre - doing so is to intentionally cause alarm or distress after all.

Mm, when I saw your name at the end of this thread I just had to come and see what you said. I like it, and it is so appropriate too. I mean on so many levels. Even in the old days when the HA was full of beer guzzling, fighting, whore mongering psychopaths, they were not in any way Devil worshippers. But now we have a different age, HA consists of people from all walks of life, some are quite humanitarian really. But in no case am I aware that they worshipped anything. The name meant what it meant, not Satanism. I wonder why Westboro doesn't go protest at their funerals. (actually I do have a clue LOL).

In fact that prospect brings up a few non violent prospects as well. I wonder how these assholes like motorcycle exhaust. Pul those ckokes (or enrichers), keep it running somehow. Maybe even pour a little tranny fluid in the tanks.

Even if that is unacceptable, chants are right ? How about one of the Harleys with a really loud stereo (some gotem now) playing say Heaven and Hell, and about forty Angels singing along at the top of their lungs ?

I like the way you think.

Lets make it a "family" affair and invite the Bandidos and the Outlaws. Nothing like a wall of bikers, no matter where they pledge, show unity against those who uses religion to promote hatred.
